The place was crowded and not a good place to go if you cant handle crowds. I was hoping for a good experience. - The one thing which affects my impression in a food establishment is the flavor, presentation and the variety. I chose the chimichangas with rice and refried beans. The chimichangas was supposed to deep friend per the menu. It was just a warm flour shell with beef in side covered in a cheese sauce. The rice was bland and the refried beans were as well. Overall i would not order that dish again. Overall the components were bland and devoid of the Hispanic flavors and seasonings I typically find in the dishes elsewhere. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places to eat, however the last two times ordering takeout they have failed to read the special instructions at all. This last time they even gave two chicken and that isn't even what is on the menu. I requested bothe beef with rice instead of beans and I got beans and two chicken. I'm allergic to beans and don't eat poultry. Something must have changed in the kitchen, because there has never been a problem until the last two weeks. Get takeout at your own risk! read more

Oh how we wanted to like this place. New owners, new decor, New menu seemed very promising. We came in on a Saturday afternoon. It was busy with out of towners. We got our seat pretty quickly. Service was good menu was diverse. Food was very chemically processed. I think I got chipotle MSG sauce. They served a spiced ranch dressing with the salsa (gag) . The wife got a weirdly sauced and processed carnitas plate like carnitas from spam. We both spent the better part of the afternoon a little queasy one of the first giveaways should've been that they were serving shots in a restaurant with about 60 seats. And multicolored margaritas were flowing on all sides. they don't have a bar so they're making them from a mix and the go for a neon Saturday margaritas are not the same crowd going for quality Mexican food. If you want ranch dressing and chips , neon margaritas and shot specials this is the place for you! I wish them well but not my place. read more

Clean, nice people, good food. Elkin is on the up and up and new shopping areas are being developed near 77. This restaurant is in the Walmart shopping area next to Dollar Tree. The salsa is good, chips fresh, and typical Tex mex food. Nothing special but fair prices. read more

I am pleased to add mine to the positive reviews. It is in a small space in a small shopping center just off of I-77. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on our way home from NYC, and greatly enjoyed my enchiladas and her tacos.It was good to have a table-service alternative to the nearby Cracker Barrell, The service was promot and efficient and teh food was flawless. read more

We went to Mexico Viejo when we checked in late at our motel. We arrived right after closing but the restaurant welcomed us in for our dinner! We stopped in for a mid afternoon meal after driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. From the outside it does not look like much, BUT we were not disappointed in the slightest. My husband and I shared fajitas, they were delicious. Our children got chimichangas and chori pollo- amazing and made to order. The fresh guac OMG out of this world. Cheese dip was hot too! Of course the salsa and chips made an appearance high on our list and not to forget the complimentary ranchero sauce, thick and creamy!! Our server spoke little English, that's ok we went to a Mexican restaurant. A nicely decorated hole in the wall for the win!! Hubby and I both had the birria tacos, they were perfect. Seriously, delish! The booths, tables and chairs were black, sexy and stable. Attentive and charming staff. Oh, and impeccably clean restrooms. So if you're taking the Elkin exit to hit up the smoke shop for some kratom and a replacement nectar collector, go next door! We found this restaurant almost by accident. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The place is only a few months old, so it is clean and modern. The food was excellent - we each had a dinner plate which was very delicious and filling. The margaritas were some of the best ever! Our waiter Trino was both friendly and funny, and was very attentive. Highly recommended place for dinner! read more
