After calling several times, a car showed up and said....his shift was ending and he would NOT drive to the airport!! Needless to say...had to call another car service...they arrived within 15 min. I took this taxi company to get from Hinckley Place, Brooklyn, New York to 45 Main Street in downtown, Brooklyn. when I called them the first time, they told me that they were going to pick me up in just 5 minutes. They took around 21 minutes to arrive at my apartment building and because of them I arrived late to an important interpretation assignment. I'm an interpreter and a History& Spanish professor. I had an interpretation assignment that day and I rode the taxi instead of walking to the subway station because was extremely cold that day. My plan was to take the taxi only to my local train station of church Avenue and take the F train. I ended taking the taxi all the way down to Main Street, downtown, Brooklyn I got also overcharged by the taxi driver and I arrived late to my interpretation assignment around 35 minutes later. They have already started without me and I was very ashamed when I arrived there. This was a very bad experience for me and I will not recommend this taxi to others. The dispatchers were extremely rude when I called and I asked to speak with the owner of the taxi company. They hang up the phone on me around three times in a very rude way. read more

Since moving to the neighborhood I've used these guys many times. They're fast for pickup in the neighborhood and other points in Brooklyn. The prices are competitive. I've had them pick up friends at JFK a few times, and they were a few minutes late. But a phone call worked everything out, and the ride from the airport to Sunset Park for $35 made up for ten minutes lost. Drivers have been uniformly friendly. UNRELIABLE. Not cool. I call Friday afternoon. I have to get somewhere very early the next morning for a special work event, and I don't love taking the subway at 4:30 am. After asking about the cost for my trip, I ask if I should schedule a pickup for later. A friendly-sounding guy tells me, "No. Just give us a call 5 minutes before you need us. We're only a few blocks away." Great! I already am going to be sleep deprived and unhappy to be awake, at least my ride can be easy and not too expensive! But then I call at 4:20. And 4:23. And 4:25. And 4:28. And 4:30. And 4:32. No answer. NOTHING. I am now panicky and extremely pissed off. I'm not taking a car for fun; I'm taking it so I can be somewhere safely and ON TIME. So I grab my bags and run down the block to this non-Yelp listed car service that cost me 1.5x the quoted price from La Mexicana - and I had to give directions to the driver every step of the way. I got to my destination just in time, but I was bummed that I chose La Mexicana based on its reviews and it didn't come through in the slightest. I was hoping to find a car service that I would like and be eager to call again next time I need a ride. La Mexicana, I can't trust you. They are pretty good for the most part. When you call they usually tell you 5-7 minutes but sometimes it can be a few minutes extra which is understandable but than there are time it's going on 15 minutes and than you call. They tell you hold on the car in coming in a minute or two and sometimes it really shows up than but I had times were I had to keep calling. A few times it went on thirty minutes that I was waiting for a car and I could have easily walked to were I was going. I will say they are a lot cheaper than other car services. They also have cars always in the snow. The price may go up by two dollars but hey it's better than walking through snow sometimes especially when getting out of work late. read more

My friend called in a car service for me from Brooklyn Heights to JFK. $35, pretty darn cheap, and beats taking a cab, as I had a hell of a not so good experience from JFK to Brooklyn Heights, and it cost me $55 because of traffic. Would much rather pay the flat rate. It did take about an hour with the Sunday traffic. Car driver was nice, but we didnt speak much other than where to go, what airline, and thanks at the end. Car was older, but comfy. Had to listen to static radio the whole time, and it was a bit cold inside as the windows were open a bit. Would use again though for the cheap service. read more

I'm lmao at some of these reviews! Come on, people! Mexicana is not perfect (for some odd reason, they NEVER pick me up from Whole Foods, it's as if their immune to that place or something lol) but they are, for the most part, reliable, the cars are usually very clean and the drivers, while most can't speak English, are very friendly and respectful. But, the best part are the prices. You can get to the city for about $25 bucks from Brooklyn, now try getting that price coming back to Brooklyn from Manhattan. Their prices are so inexpensive that I almost feel bad for paying them so little and almost always tip them. You guys need to leave my Mexicana alone! LoL read more

WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. My girlfriend was finished with her research in Singapore and coming into JFK Airport with a scheduled arrival of 10 p.m. I called the dispatcher at 7:15 p.m. to let them know she will be needing a ride later in the evening and I would monitor the flight on the computer, and after it lands I would call them to let them know. I then said to the dispatcher that if it was okay I could make things easier for the driver and go for the ride to facilitate the pick-up (he parks at curb, I run in to get her.) I gave my address (local... a few blocks from them) and the dispatcher said it would be 38 dollars. I checked the computer later in the evening and saw the plane had landed at about 9:50, a few minutes early. I called the dispatcher at that time (again) and said the plane had landed and we could make our way to JFK. The car was in front of my building within 4 minutes, literally be the time I grabbed my coat and walked down 2 fight of stairs. We left for JFK at approximately 10 p.m. The ride was traffic free and we arrived at Terminal 1 by 10:30 p.m. I jumped out and went inside the Terminal to grab her. The passengers were already coming through the doors, but she took about 15 minutes after our arrival to get her bags and for us to make it back to the car service. The ride back to Bay Ridge was also traffic-free and we arrived at approximately 11:25 p.m. I got out of the car and "Carlo from Ecuador" said 76 dollars. I explained that I took the ride to make things easier for the connection and pick-up at the airport and had spoken to the dispatcher at 7:15 about this arrangement. I argue with the driver for a few minutes, butte explanation is falling on "deaf ears" partly because I don't think Carlo understood English... he wasn't speaking it very well. I call the dispatcher and he says "who did you speak with... I've been here since 4:00 p.m." I explain I called at 7:15 p.m... and I have the phone record to prove it. He says"let me check... you called at 9:51 p.m. and I spoke to you." I said yes, when I confirmed the flight had landed I called, and I called 3 hours before that to make arrangement for the service. I explained 76 dollars was never mentioned once, and 38 dollars was the price I was given. The dispatcher, who continued talking nonsense the entire time, trying to prevent me from saying anything, finally says no taxi company would do this. I explained EXPLORER had done it several times and thought it was a great idea and helped speed up the process at the terminal. The dispatcher put me on hold and said he was calling EXPLORER, which he did... and then he gets back on the phone and says "well all companies are different. T-MOBILE has different policies than AT & T." I explain that isn't even the point. I was quoted 38 dollars for the service, and I made the arrangements with the previous dispatcher. He says his driver has a family, kids and needs to get paid. I responded "what?" We all have families. He then stated he had to wait for a bit at the airport... I said that is the norm and there was no major delay or issue, we were back in Bay Ridge before 11:30 which was very good time. Now my girlfriend is standing there, exhausted, and just wants to go inside and get some sleep. I weigh out calling 911 and getting the police involved, but I realize the big picture. I pay Carlo from Ecuador and the thieving company 76 dollars for a 38 dollar quote. I wake up today and I am who I am and they are who they are. Justice enough. I went inside and called 311, filing a complaint with the TAXI Commission. I have sent a chain e-mail that reached all my contacts this morning and will review this nonsense on the appropriate sites. They may have beat me out of a lousy 38 dollars but it will cost their business thousands of dollars in the future. Well deserved for their revolting behavior. read more

Mexicana is the perfect example of a hit or miss. I broke my ankle and had to take cabs to and from the doctor every week and have used them frequently since 2011. They charge good rates, but often times, do not arrive on time and just tell you five minutes when sometimes its twenty. I gave them a three rating because I left my iPhone in the car once and they actually returned the phone to me. Another instance I left my house keys and those were returned as well. I will continue to use them, but wish they would get better with their arrival times. read more

These guys are: - fast (at my door in 5 min or less), - efficient (it's not a running meter so they actually avoid traffic and tolls when possible), - and reasonably priced (Sunset Park to Greenwich village $25 + tip). Been using these guys for 20 years. No frills. Just good service. They even text you now when your driver has arrived. I really don't understand all the bad reviews. Yes, the dispatcher sometimes hangs up fast and sometimes the car takes a little longer to arrive. But they are reliable, and charge FAIR prices. If there was an option for zero stars I would give it. I have called several times to take their car service and everything time I've had a problem. They always get the address wrong and when they do get it right they told me that the car would get to my house in about 5 minutes and they usually take longer more like 10-15...are you serious. But the last straw was when they sent someone that didn't even know his way around mind you they got the address wrong and I've told them several times that I was running late. Plus on top of that he ended up taking the longest route and he was trying to make small talk with me and ended up not paying attention to where he was going and almost past my job. These guys are great. I have used them late nights from Bay Ridge to Downtown Brooklyn on occasion and each time has been excellent. and only cost me $14. Their cars are very clean, drivers very friendly, and the price was perfect. They have a security camera in the car which is cool, so the drivers and you are protected. When you call the dispatcher just asks "where are you located?" and that's it. Within 5 to 10 mins., the car is there. Get their number in your phone so when the R train is gonna make you loose your mind, you can have peace. read more

Never came. 10 minutes later, I called and was told it would be just 1 more minute. Never came. 10 minutes later, called back very annoyed at this point, was told 30 seconds. Called back after 35 seconds to let them know the cab hasn't arrived, they hung up without saying a word. Called repeatedly with no answer from there. A cab arrived 5 minutes later. Total wait time = 45 minutes. No apology. No return calls with updates. Never stated cabs weren't available. Avoid this company if you can. As I live on the R line, weekend transportation, especially at night, can be problematic. Mexicana's saved me many times. For example, one NYE a while back I got on platform in Union Square at 3:00ish, finally got on at 330, and a full hour and a half later - after stopping in tunnels for no reason at all, after moving at about 4 mph through lower manhattan and Brooklyn Heights, making all local stops. Finally the slow train to China stopped at 36th street. At about 4:55. And then came the announcement.. When you've had a half pint of Jameson you tend not to read the service announcements in advance, let alone notice the signs. So, I dragged my extremely intoxicated self up to fifth avenue, slapped down ten bucks and before I knew it I was in a minivan with a Venezuelan guy who spoke no English but managed to get me home within about 8 minutes of getting in the car. And I live almost 40 blocks and 5 avenues away. With tip, it came out to $12. Bear in mind a car service from 86th street and 4th avenue (a ten minute walk from my house but one which I haven't been able to make on nights like the above) costs $7, but they're from al biladi so I just round it up to $10 greenbacks. And I can always trust Arab cabbies not to be drunk on the job. Can't say that for Black Sea Taxi.... I think Mexicana takes the cake for value & convenience. While they might raise eyebrows with their driving style - like most third world drivers west of the Indus - their actual skill level is high and they just want to get you home as fast as they can. Yellow cabs, on the other hand, will often screw with you just to get more money out of you. My younger (older) sister has given yellow cabbies directions only to have them totally ignored, with the driver taking a detour as far out of the way as possible so as to encounter the most traffic possible. Several times. The guys working at Mexicana, are honest, hardworking wholesome family people just like the rest of the southern half of the borough. They're not out to get you. They might not speak English but their boss will & they have no ill intentions against you. That's why older people only take car services. Yellow cabs are for the well-to-do, Gypsy cabs for clueless tourists who just came out of Customs at JFK. Never take a ride from a random foreign guy whispering 'cab? cab? taxi? manhattan?' in your ear. TL&C is a legitimate organization and JFK isn't f**king Washington Sq. Park ten years ago. Coming out of Lowe's in Brooklyn, I was weighed down with about a hundred tons of stuff. OK, maybe more like a hundred pounds. Me and my sagging, creaking grocery cart barely made it to the bus stop. I waited for the bus. And waited. And waited. Can I just mention that the B61 is Not Reliable? While waiting, I saw a family come trooping out of their house and into a car service. I looked at them driving off with envy and jealousy. Why them and not me? Why not, indeed? I had seen that the car said "Mexicana" on the side, so I called information and asked for Mexicana Car Service. I got a company in Queens, that told me to "call someone in Brooklyn; we don't drive there." OK. I concentrated, trying to remember the number on the side of the car. I tried a number... and SCORE! Got the car service! They quoted me a really remarkably low fare, and said they'd be there in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, I called them back, and they assured me that they'd be there in just a minute. Of course, right then THREE, count them, THREE buses came by, all in a row. But by that time I was feeling committed to being in the comfort of a car. Eventually, the car showed up (It took a bit over half an hour to get there). The driver was pleasant and competent; the car was clean. When I got to my destination, however, she charged me more than they'd quoted me. Very efficient and friendly courteous service. Trustworthy drivers and the rates are very reasonable. Family member admitted to hospital in Brooklyn. From Long Island we came by LIRR to Atlantic terminal. If you know anything about Brooklyn, this is a big high traffic area. We called and they directed us to be at a nearby specific spot. They were there in 5 minutes. They drove a quick route so the ride was pleasant. We have used them many times before and will continue to use their taxi services whenever we are in Brooklyn. I've been riding with Mexicana for over 10 years and after my last three experiences, I'm done giving them my business. On my most recent trip, I was told there was a 5 minute wait for a car, when in actuality it was 25 minutes. I was late for my appointment and the dispatcher was indifferent. Previously on a trip into Manhattan, I was quoted a price over the phone and then, at my destination, charged additional fees by the driver - the toll for tunnel (okay), and several dollars for congestion pricing - the dispatcher didn't mention this additional fee; how is that not included in the price? Finally, last summer, on a trip to JFK, my driver was driving recklessly, alternately speeding, swerving and slowing down to 5 miles an hour while on the Belt Parkway - creating issues with other cars on the highway. I truly felt unsafe and was worried we'd have an accident. I have tried to support this local business instead of Uber and Lyft, but the quality of service is sub-par. read more

As I write this review, I am still sitting at JFK hoping to get on a flight 4 1/2 hrs after my original flight left without me because my car from La Mexicana showed up 30 minutes late. I had called half a day earlier to secure a pick up but was given the runaround when the car didn't show up on time. They were also 15 minutes late when they picked me up from JFK days earlier. Yes, I should have learned my lesson the first time but my brother has used them several times and was so positive about them.
