I was here a couple months ago with my girlfriend and our little one and we all loved it. The food was excellent, they were slightly busy but we hardly waited for our food and the service was awesome! I'm pretty sure everyone working front of house that night came over and talked to my little girl and made her laugh as she made them laugh. Everyone was so friendly and the food was great. What more could you ask? read more

I'm actually pretty shocked at the bad reviews here! The food here is delicious!! It's brought still sizzling on a pan which still makes me say WOW everytime. Presentation and food quality is awesome! Their drinks are pretty wicked too. Last time I was there I tried something called a volcano or something...loved it! Whenever there's something special going on I always suggest going here to my friends and family. They never complain!! The reason I give it only four stars is because I do agree the cost is a bit high. That's actually the reason I only suggest it on special occasions...not really a place I could afford to go to all the time. read more

So, I have been here a few time since moving to the city for school. Of the multiple times I have eaten here, I can recall one evening that I received fantastic service. Others times were okay, which is why I kept going back. Until my most recent service, which has completely turned me off this place. My roommate and I arrived on a saturday night, there was no one else in the restaurant. Good service we thought since there would be no other customers needing service. First off, the waiter said 'yay, people. finally.' when we walked in. I guess it was a slow night for him? We were seated and given menus. When it was time to order my roommate ordered for both of us because we were going to split a steak quesadilla. When our food finally arrived, it was not even delivered by our waiter, the bar tender did. When he gave us our food, it turned out to be steak fajita stuff for two. After a couple of minutes of conversing with my roommate that there must of been a mistake, we decided to tell our server. No server in sight. After minutes of no one in the dining room, we caved and ate it. We only ended up eating two fajitas each, and stopped, leaving about 3/4 of the food left. We waited another 10 minutes when the server finally appeared. He asked if we were done already, and my roommate explained we did not expect this much food since we order a quesadilla to split. The server actually argued with my roommate that she specifically ordered the steak fajitas for two. He took our plates away, and gave us our bill. We went from wanting a cheap quesadilla to spending $40 on fajitas for two, which weren't even that great of fajitas. I can understand there can be miscommunication between customers and servers, but it's very unprofessional to have an argument with the customer claiming she is wrong. I cannot see myself returning there. read more

My favorite patio in the city! Love coming here for drinks and appetizers the staff is always cheerful and attentive, good vibe, and one of the best on the rocks margaritas in the city. I'll leave the gushing at that but a great low key place to catch up with friends day or night. read more

Glad it was a group on. The nachos were very cheap on chips of all things. I was a cook at bars in my life and I was always told to fill people up on the chips they are cheap and go easy on the cheese becuase it cost much more. Well Mexicali Rosa's was cheap on everything but the plate looked nice. The lime Margarita my wife had was a two shot drink. I think not it tasted more like a single shot drink. I would not go back to this place. The sun was nice but I can get that walking down the street. read more

I am never going there again!!!!! I have been to many restaurants in dartmouth and halifax and this has got to be the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I was there for my friends birthday supper last night. we waited 15 minutes for our drinks which we could see sitting on the bar, we finally had to ask another person working there to bring them over. nachos were horrible, i could have made better ones at home with more flavor. Had to pay extra for salsa? waiter was extremely unprofessional and rude! all in all it was a horrible experience and ruined our evening. read more

I have been here twice for Mexican food. I like the ambience and the food they provide.. it's definitely a good place serving good Mexican food. I ordered a vege burrito which was good. I did not like there nachos much..! The complimentary nacho chips they provide is good along with salsa.. I really liked there churros! read more

Pretty good overall! Had a nice waitress, decent nachos, and a couple of tasty Modelo's. Wish they would change their hot sauce from Tabasco to Valentina's or Cholula. Overall a good experience read more

So I went there a few weeks ago after longing for it since it moved and thinking the taste and menu would remain similar (silly me- sucker for nostalgia), anyway- I used to order this layered dip of sorts with half tacos half tortillas- it was great before! So I looked and ordered something I thought was the same :7 layered dip- and the waitress said they could still do half and half- upon getting it it was barely any layers but mushed together ingredients- I ate it yes- food is better with good company but it longed for something from the past. My friend's honey BBQ nachos were ok but it seemed a bit weird combo as I could only eat so many without getting tired of them. Pins Colada good, Sangria good although could have been topped up just a smudge more in the glass. Deep fried ice cream good but tougher shell? Anyway not the same as before however still ok if your looking for a nice night out in a prettier bar than it was before. read more

Oh Mexi's. I had high hopes! Alright, so they weren't exactly 'high' but I was optimistic. I guess I got what I expected. The main problem people seem to have is the service and that was probably the best part of our meal. Things started off badly, when we asked could we sit by the window (there was only one other table of people). The host said, "Sure, no problem," and led us over to the window before saying, "You know what, can you guys just sit here?" It wasn't by the window, and was confusing because not only were all of the tables by the window free, they were also clean and neatly laid. The table we got was filthy, as were our menus. Still, things perked up immediately when our server came along. He immediately noticed the state of the table ("Whoah, looks like the table's a little messy, I'll be right back!") and took care of it with a cloth and some spray right away. There was still burrito rice and goop on my bench, but I didn't mind so much once the table was clean. The cocktails were nice, and we shared the nachos, added an extra layer and went for the chicken bacon affair (I don't remember the name of it!). We weren't sure whether to order that or the chili nachos but our server told us in no uncertain terms to go with the meat-feast kind. "I swear to god, if you don't like it, I'll pay for it myself. Seriously, that's how good they are." He was right, they were pretty decent! Nothing insanely special, but I can imagine them being good drunk food. Sort of how nothing hits the spot after a night out like grilled cheese, or hamburger helper. read more

I hate paying too much for poor quality food and as Mexi that is what I did. My first instinct was to order their tacos since it was "Taco Tuesday" but I was hungry so I ordered their Chicken Club with a side of fries, I was asked if I wanted cheese, said yes, but wasn't told there was an extra charge for it. The sandwich reminded me of the quality of sandwich that I bought once from KFC when I was younger (and didn't know better) I shared my friends nachos and they were over cooked and flavorless, their complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were much better. Their drink selection was terrible the majority of their drinks were beer based, but the Sangria was goodm which is the only The only good review I can give them. Sorry. read more

Nachos was above average. The service though, u have to w8 for so long to be seated even though there are lots of space empty. Seems the tips policy doesn't mean a good service. Look at Japan. read more

So, it was my first time here, hence the 3/5 star rating. I will try it out again just to give a fair review for everyone. SERVICE: -Group of 3, we walk up & right away they offer to seat us. (Perfect!) -The young lady took our drink order & answered the few questions we had. She was quite pleasant throughout the entire night. -However, our 3 waters took... FOREVER to arrive, but they came & we ordered! -The food didn't take long to come afterwards, but it was the bar tender who served us. Very enthusiastic personality though! -All in all, the service was pretty slow. Our server said the deep fried cheesecake would take 5 mins, but it took more like 15 by the time she brought it. FOOD: -The food was pretty decent. It was served hot/warm. -For being Mexican, it was not spicy @ all. In fact one of us added jalepeno peppers to the food and it still wasn't spicy. They only offer tobasco sauce. -Very filling & a pretty good amount of food for the price! I will update later! read more

I was very puzzled this place was almost empty on a Thursday at lunch. The atmosphere was nice, the service was friendly, and the food while underwhelming was tasty enough. I had enchiladas and it sure seemed like everything was sort of microwaved heat up stuff. The sauces for example were kind of grey and watery. My side of fries appeared to be out of a bag of frozen fries. My cola was 50% ice. So yes, it was tasty and not unreasonably priced I guess, but what really stood out was what happened roughly 18 hours later. You can guess can't you? Talk about having a bad reaction... gah it was awful. I have a cast iron stomach but that lunch did not sit well at all. never going to risk that again. read more

Have not been to Mexis in ten years. After tonight's meal I won't be back. My nachos were stale and bland. The steak for the fajitas was completely overdone. Dessert was literally brownies out of the bag. Plus, the place appeared to need a solid cleaning. Disappointed. read more

Wonderful decor, excellent central location. Everything else terrible! High price's for terrible bland cardboard food, on the + side the portions are also pretty small so at least you don't have to feel like your a bad person for not finishing it all. I had the $15.99 Clyde Burrito with Rice and Beans. The beans look like they took an $0.89 cent can of re-fried beans and put them in the microwave for 3 min and served them along with instant uncle Ben's rice with a dash of hunts tomato sauce to give it that Mexican look. The Burrito itself tasted like a soggy semi Mexican flavored semi something not very nice. If you are looking for a decent Mexican restaurant this is not the place to go, I wouldn't even call this place's food OK it was literally terrible. I will not be coming back to this place. read more

Mexicali Rosa's disappointed. My enchiladas arrived in a pool of oil and grease and the rice was cold and undercooked. The atmosphere is fun, but it's not enough to justify the mediocre food and high prices. Go to Mexico Lindo instead. read more

Pretty awful Mexican food if you know what real Mexican food tastes like.

The food was terrible and it took 20mins just to get a drink. Overpriced and definitely not fresh.

The food was superb but for me it was somehow pricey. The place was good though and the servers.

I've come here a few times and each time I've been it's been almost dead quiet. Apparently it gets quite busy during patio season, and on (my fave) Taco Tuesday's. I got the enchiladas but they were very meh. The flavour was really disappointing and the texture of the tortillas underneath was like wet cardstock. But their nachos and tacos have always been delicious. They have pretty good margaritas as well, and it can be a fun place with the right people. I've come by once with my boyfriend and we ended up using the empty restaurant to dance a bit to their bachata music! read more

Absolutely obsessed with this restaurant! By far my favourite one in Halifax. They have the best nachos. I met a guy on bumble recently and we bonded over our love for nachos. I suggested we go to Mexicali Rosa's and it was the best decision ever. We ended up going on more dates after the first one, and went back here for the food. So good !! read more

This place was so-so. Food was mediocre and service was slow. The waitress was very friendly and nice but she rarely came to our table and usually forgot something when she did check in. We had the sangria and nachos and the Sangria was tasty but almost all juice (hence the low price) and the nachos were good but nothing special. Not very flavourful and the chips were kinda chewy. We also had some desserts: deep fried ice cream, deep fried cheesecake and churros. Only the churros were good (and they were amazing). Nice Mexican type decor, but the AC was on and it was cold and rainy outside so it didn't feel much like Mexico. read more

I REALLY want to like this place. Been there a number of times. The atmosphere is great - liveley, mexican music, awesome summer patio. But the food is pretty bad. Its not anything close to mexican food or even tex mex. Its like some Canadian interpretation of tex mex. The gauc lacks any sort of flavor- certainly no garlic or cumin, its really just avacado. I ordered a chelada, one of my favorite drinks which is mexican beer on ice topped with fresh lime juice, salt rim glass. Theirs uses budweiser and bar lime (fake lime juice). The tortilla chips are fresh hot and tasty. Overall the food generally lacks flavor or authenticity. Chains like chipotle have shown that the market has matured and the mass market could be ready for more flavorful more authentic taqueria food. read more

When I ate here I was on the rooftop and it was a beautiful view. Not only that but their chimichangas are on point. They even came and offered up some tortilla chips and salsa as appetizers which was to my liking 5 stars!!! Keep giving good service read more

I went to Mexicali Rosa's with my sister and a few friends last month. We opted to sit upstairs on their fabulous patio. I think it may be my favourite patio in the city for it's spaciousness, location and atmosphere. Our server recommended something called a President Margarita so we all thought we would try one. These drinks were too sugary and just plain gross. And at $13.99 a pop, they should have been fabulous. We were feeling like trying something out of our normal box so we tried the Chicken Wing Nachos. Let me just say, when you're paying $13.99 plus $1.50 for sour cream, $1.50 for salsa, and $1.75 for guacamole (the nachos don't come with anything) then they should be the best nachos you've ever had in your life. This was not the case. We were extremely surprised that our server did not recommend 2 servings (even though the price would have gutted us.) We had a group of 5 ladies and one plate of their measly nachos was just not enough. They were very skimpy on the cheese and toppings and essentially we had a plate of (not even half of a bag of Tostitos worth.) I would recommend going someplace else for nachos and drinks as this place is a huge rip off. 5 drinks and a plate of nachos later, our bill ran us $102.00. Unbelievable. Will never go back here. read more

My wife and I went there for her Birthday back in January. It has been well over 15 years since I had been there however I remember it fondly and my family and I used frequent the restaurant. What I enjoyed most was the Outrageous Chimichanga. My wife and I decided to go there because we wanted a great meal for her birthday and a night away from the kids. The one part of the meal I did enjoy was the chips and salsa they brought to the table before the meal. These we exactly as I remembered them. However the rest of the meal was gross. After working at Jungle Jim's and seeing the behind the scenes I know when you are being served frozen packaged food and this is what it was. I ordered a chimichanga and I felt like I could have made the same meal at home by buying a frozen microwave burrito and putting some sour cream on it. It tasted just like the burrito's you buy at the supermarket. It was lacking any sort of flavour or personality you would expect when a chef makes your meal. I understand I am using Chimichanga and Burrito interchangeably but a Chimichanga is just a deep fried Burrito. I then ordered the ducky's fried cheesecake for dessert. It actually did arrive surprisingly quick however the cheesecake itself was hot on the outside and frozen in the middle. It felt like it had not been cooked long enough. According to the menu it is cheesecake wrapped in tortilla and deep fried. It tasted like it had just come out of the freezer. For the amount they charge for the meal and what we received I definitely don't feel like we got our moneys worth. I'm sad to say that I won't be back as I used to love going there and remember the quality of the food to be quite superior to what they serve today which is generic and bland. read more

Got a GroupOn for Mexi's so we waited for a sunny day to enjoy their patio. I always say the only good thing about Mexi's is the patio, beer and nachos. Except this time the nachos were not so hot, there was just one carefully arranged layer of chips on the large platter. Each chip had some toppings but it was not a double-thick pile of chips with loads of toppings that you'd expect for $15. We asked the server to bring salsa over because it wasn't included and that's one thing that they do well, house-made salsa. read more

So me and the wife ended up going to there to grab a quick drink and appetizer. It was during the afternoon on Saturday. There might have been 2-3 other tables in the place. Initially, it took no less than 10 minutes for them to come over and take our drink order. Then one of the drinks was not delivered. The appetizer, nachos had the minimum amount of toppings, so essentially we ate tortilla chips. the late drink finally came after being prompted. When the bill came, the late drink was not included, so we are thinking, at least they made for that right? Not so fast, when paying it was added by the waitress last minute. Lets just say no tip was left, I won't be going back here anytime soon. read more

A friend and myself arrived on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was not busy at all. We were hoping to sit on their patio as it was a beautiful afternoon, but unfortunately their patio was closed. Upon entering the restaurant, it was relatively clean. Our server was super friendly and attentive. A friend and myself ordered their platter which was decent, nothing too fancy. The taquitos were quite oily, but other than that it was quite good. The only downside I'd say is it was a bit expensive for what they gave you in terms of proportions and quality of food. read more

Have been to Mexi's many times before, and as always love having the tortilla chips and salsa while waiting for the meal. I always wonder what that wonderful mix of ingredients is that makes the seasoning so delicious? Decided to visit recently and didn't feel like a full out meal, but needed to satisfy my craving for nachos. We went ahead with an order of the chipotle chicken nachos, along with their seven layer dip and threw in a side of guacamole. Our server discussed the dipping options with us, and mentioned that with the nacho plate we could have either salsa or sour cream. Our response was that the dish should include both sour cream and salsa. We requested both, there was no way we could choose between one or the other. We fully expected to be charged extra, however when the bill came there was no such extra. The guacamole was loaded with flavour, the ingredients tasted fresh and crisp. I was a big fan of the guacamole that night. I read a few other reviews of pour service before going and I can't agree with them. We had fantastic service, both our server and the hostess catered to our needs, while also managing two large parties. Their choice to comp the extra side on top of delivering a fantastic plate of nachos is what earned them a five from me. My only suggestion is that they change the nacho plates to include the salsa and sour cream. We order nachos for the dipping so keep the sauces coming! read more
