Came here for lunch on a Sunday after a day of sight seeing and walking around Porto…read more
We actually arrived at 12 noon (time it says on Yelp) but they actually opened for business at 12:15 pm. We saw the two waiters come to the street and picked up a few bags of rolls that was delivered and likely for their sandwiches they planned on serving for the day.
Word about this must be going around since besides me and my wife, there were 2 other group of people waiting for them to open.
Pregar is definitely a small restaurant with only 8 tables inside and 4 tables outside.
Their menu was separated by language and our waitress opened it on the English menu. My wife just had soup and I ordered the Serra (Portuguese steak with cheese) on a roll. The price was just for the burger and so I added the fries which came on a dipping side (they had sweet chili, horse radish mayo, ketchup) just to name a few. We actually had the sweet chili and later the horse radish mayo to try.
So the steak sandwich I had was Medium (they ask how you want it cooked and went with how the Portuguese like their steaks.)
It was a simple no frills sandwich. Just steak. Melted cheese on a roll. The bread was soft and complimented the meat in a 1-1 ratio which I like. Sometimes with a burger, you have more bread with a small burger in the middle. The Serra was 12 euro and thought that was a fair price for a steak sandwich. Overall, I'd give the Serra 4 stars.
Service was wonderful and our waitress was attentive and helpful with her suggestions on the steak sandwich to go with. 5 stars.
Overall, it was a great lunch and we enjoyed being one of the first ones to dine that day. By the time we were about to finish, more patrons were coming in to eat.
Definitely a place If you happen to be near Pregar, I would recommend to try.
