I agree with the previous review, Liz, about the gallery. I love the paintings and style of Simon Bull and the location and interior of this gallery are very nice but the sales tactics are very high pressure to the point where I felt absolutely uncomfortable and wanted to leave. We spent about an hour inside discussing options where the sales manager said she would make me a great deal but I had to buy today and my husband said he wanted to think about it and we'd contact them later and they actually started arguing (in a civil manner) back and forth about it. This review is long overdue as we visited there in the summer of 2018. My wife and I are passionate and highly active art collectors. We strolled into the gallery almost by chance. We were impressed with Simon's color story and his masterly technique. However, it is not the style we normally buy. But we saw one of the smaller pieces in the gallery and fell in love. It's called the White Stag and it is a stunning work that we have hanging in a prominent space in our living room that is filled with bold, contemporary figurative abstract art. As the name implies, the piece features a white stag standing in front of an abstract forest with pink and purple trees. We rarely buy on the day we see a piece. So, we went to lunch, had a glass of wine, looked at pictures of the painting and made up our minds. We walked back and bought it. And did we luck out. We actually got to meet Simon, and he is a great guy with a winning smile. He went so far as to write us a very personal inscription on the back of the painting. When we show other artists who come to view the collection that inscription, all are impressed. Plus, pretty much every one loves that work. And did I mention, we got a signed copy of one of his deluxe books? Talk about customer service... read more

I was invited to, and recently attended the 5th annual AIM Appreciation Night, an event being hosted by Mr. Simon Bull, to benefit this non-profit which is dedicated to youth mental health research and awareness. It was an evening of "Flowers and Frolic", which include a live performance painting by none other than Mr. Bull himself. It was simply magical to watch him create an incredible work of art before a rather large crowd. He did two live paintings, and both sold at auction to the eager bidders. All proceeds went directly to AIM, which I found very impressive. I was so impressed that I approached him and asked him to commission a painting for me also, if the proceeds were also to go to AIM. He was more than happy to do it, and I became, and will continue to be, a collector of his incredble artwork. This establishment is top-notch. The sales manager, Mary Doble, was also a class act. We couldn't be happier with the pieces we purchased from the gallery. The sales team was very knowledgeable and helpful when we explained what we were looking for. Additionally, Simon happened to be in town and signed and dedicated each piece to us. The paintings were delivered and hung the next day at no additional cost (on a Sunday) and Mary even stopped by to make sure they were perfect. The pieces are expensive, but they are original works of art by a world renowned artist, who also happens to be a very nice guy. Last week I was visiting in Carmel and looking for an investment piece to add to my art collection. I had previously visited Meuse Gallery and didn't purchase a piece, but I recalled how much I liked the work of artist Simon Bull. During my first visit, the Gallery Director (blonde woman) was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer every question I directed to her. However, my experience last week at the gallery was a polar opposite of my previous visit. I came in with the intention of purchasing a piece but became incredibly frustrated by the lack of knowledge and answers that I received by the sales assistant, Gina. Given that I work in the television production industry, I can smell b.s. pretty quickly and it is a major turn off for me. I asked for the blonde woman (apologies for not remembering her name) and was told that she was unavailable. I was reminded that her name is Mary. I asked when Mary would be returning as I would prefer to be assisted by her given my previous experience. I received a vague answer at best. Pretty simple question. Very strange to hide the ball regarding staff availability. I would think that the Gallery would not be concerned with who makes the sale as long as the sale is made, particularly since it was abundantly clear that she was losing the sale. Let's just say I won't be returning. It was an unsatisfactory experience. read more

Walked in on a Sunday morning to enjoy the art with my daughter. Extremely rude sales lady did everything short of telling us to leave to make us feel unwanted and as if we couldn't buy something it wasn't for us to be in the gallery. Although the gallery was a nice large space with an interesting variety of paintings by Simon Bull, I found the high pressure tactics of the two sales people there extremely unpleasant. I felt like they were working together to gang up on me with questions like "Which of these paintings can you imagine hanging in your home?". I have never been intimidated like this before, only seen it in movie "Pretty Woman". This happened on March 11 afternoon at Meuse. I was attracted to this pretty gallery by the beautiful paintings of Simon Bull. Before I had a chance looking around, the sales person, Mary Doble, greeted me with questions like "What are you looking for?" "Which of these paintings can you imagine hanging in your home?" (same as the one Liz mentioned) "Are you looking for paintings for living room?" "What is your living room wall size?" I told her that I was not sure what I was looking for, I would know only when I see one, I prefer walking around by myself. She did not stop questioning me. It was getting very uncomfortable. I started avoiding her. Felt ignored, she said, "Just want you to know, the paintings don't have price tags. They start from $10K and up". Her tune and body language were telling me these paintings may be too expensive for me, I was not welcome there. Wow, this is way too much. I escaped there as fast as I could. I attended a Community Fundraiser event at Meuse Gallery to support the Big Sur Community last year, and found Meuse Gallery to be the most exciting museum/gallery I've ever attended. An amazing collection of a wide variety of art styles, bursting with colors and life. I returned a month later and there was an entirely new lineup of art featuring Muhammad Ali, with whole wings and balconies of art ranging from amazing florals to very modern works. The sales staff was incredibly informative and helpful, and I've returned on every trip to Carmel to see the most recent sets of artwork, which have been fresh with every visit. No question, it's a must stop for Carmel....it's just across from Il'Fornaio and one of the closest art venues to the beach at Monte Verano and Ocean. A few weeks ago, my wife and I were in Carmel where we visited Meuse Art Gallery. We are rather new at purchasing art, but we are particularly attracted to the works of artist Simon Bull whose beautiful paintings are so eloquently displayed. We were met by Mary Doble who is the head sales lady in the gallery. She was absolutely a gem to work with. She is very knowledgeable and informative about art in general, and especially the works of Simon Bull. She asked us various questions that helped us in our selection. We really like Mary, and we felt no pressure to buy, and she gave us our space to peruse the gallery. She would check in with us to get our thoughts on various paintings. As a result, we purchased a beautiful Simon Bull painting. Mary offered to help us select a frame and even took our painting to the framing shop where we met her. I am totally perplexed by the previous review. After spending the day strolling through the galleries in this charming town, I was fortunate enough to enter Meuse Gallery. What a pleasant surprise to learn that it is exclusively a Simon Bull gallery. Having purchased a large Simon Bull painting years ago (All For You), I was completely fascinated by the way his style has evolved. Further, I felt that I received a complete education about Simon's work by the director of the gallery. I appreciated her candidness and expertise regarding the Artist. Although I am already a Simon Bull collector, I experienced absolutely no pressure to purchase anything. My experience was one of enlightenment about the Artist. Having purchased fine art for many decades, it is easy to discern between staff who are completely unprepared to answer questions and staff of a higher caliber with real depth and knowledge of the subject. This gallery is simply staffed by professionals who possess the type of knowledge a prospective buyer appreciates when making a purchase of this kind. read more
