Looking for a place to clear your head and maybe even find some answers about how to find equanimity? Take a trip to Metta Forest Monastery in Northern San Diego County. Forest? Metta Monastery is located in the middle of avocado orchards. It is one of the loveliest sites in SoCal; it is so peaceful and serene here. We took a trip here one early Saturday morning to participate in the alms round of the monks. This is where the monks of the monastery walk along a line of lay people with their begging bowls (one of the few possessions that monks own), "begging" for food. As a lay person participant, I brought food up to share with the monk. After the monks all filled their bowls, the lay people get together and enjoy a meal together. We enjoy meeting people from the local town and some folks from across the world. Then we decided to stay for the group discussion with the monastery's abbot, Ajaan Geoff. It was a fun adventure. Next time? When life becomes too stressful, I may go up to Metta and make use of one of their outdoor meditation platforms.

This place is so nice!!…read more It was my family and I's first timing coming here and it's super easy to drive to. If you're confused about where it's at, just keep doing down the road until you see the Buddhist flag and keep going up until you see the large parking spot on the right. Parking concerns? None at all! It's very large. It's very spacious here. Like said it was our first time and we were treated very warmly. They asked us to stay and eat for lunch but we said no but they kept nicely asking so we ended up staying to eat for a little. And wow! Was lunch so good! The plates were sooo big too. They were even nice to give us soup too when they said they were low on it. Thank you!

It's Vietnamese Buddhist Temple. The place was top of the mountain you can see the flag and go up,…read morethey have huge space for parking lot on the right. Anyone can come and pray, i always go near the kitchen and greet the monks there before praying and somehow you'll meet Ni Co Khanh she's very welcoming and generous, she'll inform you and help with any question and guide you. Some of them didn't speak english but Ni Co Khanh mostly there and would be happy to help you out. People are very welcoming and kind. Even though the language barrier but you can understand :) Anyone can come and pray anytime it's open for everyone but i would preferably to stop by near the kitchen or someone to greet first before i go inside to pray. This place need more recognizable!
