Impressive metro station located in a central area in the city center, like many of the stations in the city center filled with canals, the stations are quite far underground so take that into account when trying to catch the subway!
This station services Rokin which is both the name of the street and adjoining canal, close to the center of Amsterdam's fan-shaped canal layout. Catch the M52 metro line here, its course connecting Amsterdam Zuid (south) and Amsterdam Noord (north), and hitting all the neighborhoods in between. This is also the closest stop to tourist destinations such as the Amsterdam Museum, Allard Pierson antiquities museum, and the popular Dutch pancake destination Pannenkoekenhuis Upstairs.
What's really impressive aside from the super deep escalators extend hundreds of feet underground, are the displays of artifacts dug up from (what I presumably believe to be) remains of older civilizations under the canals when ground was excavated to construct the metro station and tunnels. Ceramics, household and commercial tools and vessels, jewelry, weapons, etc. displayed in glass cases for passerby to catch a quick glimpse of history.
Descent into the station is via escalator or elevator. Ticket machines are available and I think there is a manned office too. You must scan your ticket (physical or digital), chipped credit card, or QR code from relevant transportation pass at the electronic turnstile entrances to enter. You must also scan the same method upon exit, so make sure you have enough funds or time on your card so you don't get stuck inside a station!
On the platform level this metro station is very spacious with extra large mosaics of animals, insects and random objects on its walls, including depictions of a corgie, cat, moth, rolling dice, tea kettle, French horn and a shrimp. Arriving train ETAs are shown on digital displays and the station is very clean. Lots of space on the single central platform with trains heading opposite directions arriving on either side. read more
