Great quality paint! We decided to visit Metro Paint when we bought our house and wanted to change the colors. I've spent the last year painting the entire inside and outside of the house. I've purchased paint from Metro, BiMart and Home Depot over this time. Metro Paint is far better than PPG paint that I purchased from BiMart. The Berh paint from Home Depot definitely has a better smell and was smoother but for over twice the price I wouldn't recommend it over Metro. Exterior: The exterior paint went on really nice! I brush and roller painted all of it. It took 2 coats of the brick red and 3 coats of white to get really solid coverage. *The white is covering a dark hunter green so it needed far more paint to cover than a lighter color would have. We also had a 2 tone house and the white sections did need a light 3 coat to really solidly cover with the brick red. If you're not changing your house color drastically 2 coats of Metro Paint will be enough. Interior: Great coverage. Again, if your not drastically changing colors and need extra coverage to hide the existing color you'll use less paint. Two coats will definitely cover anything nicely, in some cases one coat will work. I even painted our bathroom vanities with Metro Paint and they look great. All of the paint I've used seems to be holding up well over the last year. I haven't had any issues with cleaning or easy chipping so far. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. They occasionally even run sales and specials through the year as well. GIVE IT A TRY! read more

Until we received our Portland Metro newsletter this month, I never even knew the MetroPaint Store existed. Flipping through the pages of the mailer, I was delighted to learn that Metro was offering a $39 Earth Machine Com-poster to city residents, this being a deep discount off the $80 retail price. After learning that there was a limited supply of composters on hand at the MetroPaint Store retail location on Swan Island, we stopped by this past Saturday to purchase our compost bin. Waiting in line at the store, I perused the paint chips and prices in the event that I may want to return in the future and acquire some high quality, recycled latex paint at a great price. MetroPaint sells their paints in 5 gallon bucket for $39, or $9 for a gallon pail. The available color palette was limited, but very nice...a combination of both classic and modern colors that would suit most people interested in a combination of high quality paint, plus the sustainable aspect of using something recycled. In addition to paint and Earth Machine Compost Bins, MetroPaint also sells painting supplies such as brushes, rollers, and tape, and they also carry various composting supplies, such as stirrers. Service was friendly and helpful, and they will load your purchased items in your car upon request. All in all, this place was a great discovery. Eco-friendly recycled products, conveniently located in No Po, gives you all the excuses you need to sample some of the fine local dining, and enjoy huge savings. This is a recycled paint facility that is run by Metro (the regional governing branch). Here's the blurb from the website: "MetroPaint is a recycled interior/exterior latex paint that is filtered to industry standards and tested for performance and environmental safety. Available in 5-gallon pails and 1-gallon cans, MetroPaint looks great on houses, business and apartment buildings, barns, gymnasiums, schools and more. Because the paint can be brushed, rolled or sprayed on and often covers in one coat, it receives rave reviews from contractors and painters who use it." I have no idea what the paint is like at this place. What I do know is that they sell discounted compost bins and accessories here (see: http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=557). The wife and I are starting to get into growing food, so we figured that making our own compost would be a good first step. The Earth Machine, the bins they sell, go for $80 retail Metro subsidies them down to $35 for those of who live within Metro bounds. OK, I am back. On this Earth Day 2009, I headed towards Metro Paint. This time to ask for one compost bin instead of two. Armed with my emptied out trunk, baby in arms, I headed to the door. Before I got to it, the attendant opened the door for me and greeted my nicely. He was very friendly to myself and my daughter. He proceeded to efficiently process my purchase of a compost bin and a kitchen scraps bucket - all for under $50. (I challenge anyone to find a better deal!) Once the transaction was complete, he said he looked like I had my hands full and was nice enough to carry it out to my trunk and stick it in there for me. So...I am not sure why my last visit was so weird, but this time it was great, so I would recommend this place and hereby retract my two star rating from last week . read more

I always have to remind myself about Metropaint. We went in today and had a great experience and learned about the process of recycling the paint. The paint ranges for $9 for the Tier 2 to $20 for the "Boutique Colors." They have a much wider range of colors than they used to, and it's so cheap and great quality! My husband and I bought and used Metro Paint for a rental we have. It fit the bill...economical! When our tenants moved out a year later, the paint was in great condition and easy to clean! Because of our great experience, we decided to purchase it for a new construction house that we are building...in California! For simplicity, we used Sand Dune on most of the walls and ceiling. It is the perfect neutral (not to dark, not to white). We used Carnation on our daughters room with Snow White for the ceiling. We bought 8, 5-gallon buckets and sprayed it on the walls and back rolled it. Lots of work, but easy process and we were happy with the way the paint went on the walls. Good coverage, though we did two coats because of the new construction. Our invoice was $310 (8, 5-gal Sand Dune, 2, 1-gal Carnation). THEN I wanted something different for our master bedroom. So I painstakingly found the "perfect" grey at Benjamin Moore. We purchased 2, 5-gal buckets for $300 (Ben Interior Paint). We used the same application methods we had used for the other 40 gallons we had applied of Metro Paint. IT WAS TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE COVERAGE, CLOGGED THE SPRAYER, CLUMPED ON THE ROLLER. I immediately called the store because there MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PAINT! They were kind, and gave us two more 5-gal for no cost of their PREMIUM paint (Aura). This additional 10 gallons was no better and we barely had enough to finish our room. I am SO happy with Metro Paint. We will be using it again for a house at the beach and again and again any where we can. Customer service is AMAZING at the Swan Island facility. Highly recommend this paint even though the color are limited. read more

My family has bought & used Metro Paint several times. It is a consistently good product, & we ADORE the low prices. (Plus, using recycled paint makes us feel good!) The last time we bought Metro Paint (2 years ago, in 2014), we looked at the available colors online, then purchased several gallons of it at Miller Paints on Highway 212 in Clackamas. I noticed a few years back that our little town's True Value Hardware carries some Metro Paint, & has some smaller-than-usual containers of unused portions of Metro Paint that customers returned - - you can check there first & try out a color for a few bucks. Additionally, if I recall correctly, local hardware & paint stores can order Metro Paint for you. In some cases, the paint is only delivered one time a week, so give plenty of notice. I was told about Metro Paint from one of my really good friends as well as a couple friends off social media. I am in the process of buying a home and was looking at many different options for interior paint. I originally wanted to go with Sherwin Williams because I saw a color they had I really liked however it was $240 for a 5 gallon bucket ($165 with a 30% off coupon). I also looked at Behr paint from Home Depot but it was still over $100 for a 5 gallon bucket. Price & quality was definitely a major factor in my decision to go with Metro Paint. I was told by my friend's that the coverage was excellent because the paint is thick like the higher end paint store brands. I had the best experience at Metro Paint. The customer service was exceptional they answered all my questions and even gave me their opinion when I could not decide on a color. I decided to go with discounted colors in the 5 gallon bucket in tan and grey. They were ONLY $15! And I got an off white/cream 5 gallon for $25. Since they were out of a pint size red they gave me a full gallon for the price of a pint for $7. I left there with over $500 of paint it would have cost me over at Sherwin Williams for only $65. Plus the paint can be used as interior or exterior. I have enough paint to paint my new house before I move in and to paint my moms house. I am so thankful I found Metro Paint because I not only got an amazing deal...I am also helping the environment by using recycled paint. I am now motivated to use as much recycled materials and furniture to remodel my new home! I recommend Metro Paint to anyone who is wanting high quality paint for a very affordable price. read more

with a major project of painting the interior of my new shop, i was looking at a tight budget. we had a lot of renovating to do. first, we headed to our friends over at the rebuilding center for some great deals, and they sent us to metro paint recycling. we figured it would take about 11 gallons of paint, which at a bargain price would normally cost about $250. amazingly we paid less than $100! they were not only cost efficient, but friendly to boot. the staff was more than helpful. to our surprise, they were right. we only needed one coat, and were left with more than 6 gallons left over. i wish every city had a business this great! read more
