Otherwise known as…read moreswiss cheese, aka, going to leak and burst whenever I feel like it, aka, go ahead you cheapo and roll the dice and not replace me. I know a plumber back east and he told get rid of the "galvi" ASAP. Um, ok. So I called a few plumbers. Some were really cheap, like do the math and you wonder it takes X days and Y material, how do you stay in business? Another big shop in town was very expensive and seemed like they were adding little things here and there to the estimate. Erickson's guy, Mike, was very nice and was thorough and was clear on not needing things that the other high-priced shop proposed. He explained the residential codes to me and why I did not need certain things. He did preface that this was not going to be cheap. He walked through all the things that needed to be done and how long it took and I realized that this was going to take several days of someone working all day and knocking out walls and ceilings. This was a big project. Their estimate was expensive, but still about 15% lower than one of the other big guys in town. But, I got a good feeling about them. So I gave Erickson the work. They came in an installed pex and ripped out all the galvanized across 3 floors of my house. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate having them back in the future.

Unfortunately I have to write a negative review of Erickson Plumbing. We called about not getting…read morehot water, only lukewarm water, and the first plumber that came out said it was not the water heater and proceeded to change a cartridge in our master shower and charged us $800 for it, which is astronomical for changing a cartridge. He also broke the handle of the shower, reversed the hot and cold directions, and did not tell us it broke. The problem persisted and we continued to have lukewarm water. I called the company and they sent another guy out and he said that our handle was reversed from hot to cold and maybe I had just been using the wrong direction for hot water. Readers, I am not an idiot and know very well what direction is hot and cold in my own shower and what changed with the plumber. He didn't know what the problem was either. I called Erickson and they asked if they could make it right. I made it clear that I will not pay another dime and I expected money back if it ended up being an issue that would have cost me less than $800. They verbally agreed over the phone. They agreed they had misidentified the issue and it was on them to fix it. Erickson sent out a THIRD plumber and he looked at our water heater, said it was a pipe that needed cleaned out, cleaned it out and et voila, we had hot water so it was an easy fix. Afterwards I called to settle with them and see what they could refund me since it did end up being an easy fix and not worth a whopping $800. They refused to refund any of the $800 saying they had spent a lot of time on the issue and going back on their word and original mea culpa that it was their issue and pledge to make it right with me. It should absolutely not be on my dime if they couldn't figure out the problem until the third try and they also absolutely took me for a ride charging me $800 to begin with. I worked with them on good faith to fix the problem expecting them to make it right with me in the end since they were at fault for misidentifying the issue, not fixing it, charging me $800 for not fixing it, and breaking my handle at that. They would not budge and would not give one penny back, which is frankly horrible business. Be prepared to be taken for a ride if you work with them and pay way more than expected and gamble at even getting your problem solved, then lied to afterwards. Hire at your own peril.

They had to completely redo the wiring to four of our ceiling lights in our 100 year old house and they accomplished all four tasks in under a day and a half. Not only did they get all four lights working again, but they also cleaned up behind themselves and even put back our furniture! I was so impressed with how clean our home was the night between the two working days and when they finished the projects. I cannot stress this enough: they had to drill several holes in our ceiling and walls in order to complete the job and when they left there was not one speck of dust anywhere! They were also very sweet and funny. Bonus: They love cookies, so if you want to befriend these guys maybe offer some!

He clearly did not realize I had the City Code person out prior and knew exactly what work I needed. Soon after he left, he sent a really rude, nasty email claiming it would take him hours to quote relatively simple jobs, and claimed he could not be bothered to draw up quotes. I responded back, how rude and asked what he found confusing or difficult. He responded with another really mean, nasty, uncalled for email. I am unsure if it is because I'm a woman, or whether he's just no longer fit to be dealing with customers with large jobs. I recommend skip them. Sad, because they had done small projects for me in the past. If you do use them, only for 1 singular project at a time. Yet, I told him I chose it from the "shower light" section of choices online at Home Depot. But Eric wanted to be sure, for safety purposes, that the light could tolerate a water setting. It had a symbol on the box which we both believed to indicate that, but he checked with Chris, his boss, to be sure that's what it meant. Chris approved it for installation. I appreciated his focus on safety and the installation did not take very long. I also appreciated that Eric was very personable and explained very clearly how this was a good choice for a shower light because it could be popped down a bit if there was a need to see above the light again, such as for another drain leak from above, as this situation had been. The cost may have been a bit more than if I paid someone else by the hour, but at least this cost by job included a trip fee and if it needed to take longer would not have cost extra. A very good service that I would use again.

In my case, they sent their senior guy (Joe, master plumber, electrician, everything you can think of), and he suggested waiving the trip fee in exchange for the hour he spent diagnosing my Daikin heat pump communicating system (zones, zone board, etc.). That was $195, and I thought it was fair. The fix was mostly to adjust my zone board directly rather than through the thermostat, and also to analyze my plumbing needs for other projects. Nice guy, knowledgeable, I enjoyed talking with him. For the HVAC work, Joe had to call Andy, who is their Daikin pro and duct engineer. Andy knows what he's talking about, more than any other HVAC person I've talked to (4Front installed my system in a mess for the previous owner, Binder HVAC charged me a lot for wasted time because they didn't understand Daikin systems, while Twin Cities Heating and Air, Midwest Heating and Cooling, and Golden Valley Heating and Air all had no idea what to do and had weird suggestions). If you have a Daikin system, ask for Andy. He tuned my zone board, fixed some miserable duct work and leaks, and better yet taught me about how things work beyond the mysterious Daikin "algorithm." He was patient with my questions and suggestions, too. This work was about $400, which is way less than the $3,000 I got bilked out of at one of the other places. It took a few hours. For the plumbing, they sent Frank, who is another senior guy specializing in plumbing. Frank worked fast, was courteous, and did a few extra little jobs for me when I asked for advice on them, such as greasing a fused spigot and dabbing some silicone on a hole in the shower frame. He also educated me about my water system, including winterizing and shutoff procedures. For the plumbing work, Frank installed a water mixing valve and also terminated a leaking pipe in the ceiling. This work was about $600. It took a few hours. In both cases, they brought along an apprentice, each of whom was equally courteous and attentive. It was very endearing. For billing, there are a couple of things they do. 1) the charge is the price. They don't do the most granular breakdown of costs in the invoice, but they do calculate it and you can ask what the calculation is. It is not an estimate or a minimum charge, more like a bid. The nice thing about that is that it will cost that and no more, which means they are happy to stick around and help here and there without charging for time. For larger projects, I'm not sure if they would charge the lesser of the bid vs labor time, but I would hope so. I haven't needed them for something big yet. For example, Pulse Electric is an electrician service that never charges more than their bid, and charges for time if it's less. I think Krinkie's would just charge the bid, but I got the sense they would be reasonable if, say, a 3-day project took only 1 day. 2) They have a subscription service that seemed like a no-brainer. For $20/m, they will come out twice a year to tune your furnace/AC, and you also get 20% off all other services, which paid for itself with our plumbing and ductwork needs. Use these guys! I love having them as my go-to people now.

When I used the Yelp Request-A-Quote function to reach out to a few electricians, Steven and his wife were incredibly responsive, and his quote was the most reasonable. We got him in the house right away, and we are so grateful he committed to a multi-week job. I asked him, "Do you have a lot of experience working on old 100+ year old homes?" and he reassured me that he's from England and has "worked on 400 year old homes"! We gave him direction and provided light fixtures and specific switches (LED dimmers) that we wanted, and then he went to town. We figured a ton of issues would come up with the old plaster, the old wiring, the logistics of the old home... but nope, he seemed to work around everything seamlessly. He only had to make a couple holes in the plaster, and he referred someone who patched them up real quick n nice. Steven made some suggestions throughout the process too, like better places to move the switches and outlets (no extra charge), which we were grateful for. He also updated our entire breaker panel which somehow had water damage and was barely to code, phew! The entire time, he was very communicative between calls and texts. We've been doing some other work on the house and it seems we run into snags with every simple little update.
