There are three common ways how to get to Petrin park located on the top of Petrin hill: on foot from tram stop Pohoralec (approx. 10 minute walk to Petrin Tower), on foot from river Vltava past Ujezd tram stop walking up the hill takes at least 20 minutes. Or take the funicular located next to tram stop Ujezd. During mean times it departs every 10 minutes and it takes up to 5 minutes to get up but be aware of ques during tourist season when you may not get into first departing cab. Since the funicular is part of Prague public transport system you can use your already bought unmarked or marked valid tickets or buy there new ones that will be valid in other means of transport too. Its good way how to cut your time needed to get up, to see Prague Castle or to experience something a bit different in moving city.

The Metro Station its-self isn't too attractive, I do like the artwork on the platforms which adds a bit more boldness and uniqueness, as is typical at most of the Metro stations I used during my time in Prague. I did not notice any lifts, however, there are escalators provided. The escalators are really fast though, I was shocked getting on them for the first time and almost fell, so you do need to get on a steady step quickly, it did feel a little unsafe but on the other hand it did speed up entry to the platforms. Reasonable Metro station that provides connections to other modes of public transportation, or more central into Prague in very little time, while being useful for guests at hotels nearby including the Hilton. 3*

Opened in 1986, the station is in great condition. There is a large escalator from the surface to the ticketing and platform level where a single island platform separates the two tracks. On one side, the next stop is Můstek (toward Zličín) and on the other side, the next stop is Florenc (toward Černý Most). On a Saturday morning, the station was very quiet and none of the various vendors were open. Metro Karlovo náměstí is between Anděl (towards Zličín) and Národní třída (towards Černý Most). This station is not handicapped accessible but there are escalators from the street level to the platform/ticketing level where ticket vending kiosks and ticket validation machines are placed. Exits are extensive and can spit you out right next to the Vltava or you can get right next to Karlovo Namesti--so nice versatile way to navigate the area. There's also a decent variety of shops to buy a quick breakfast or snack if you're hungry. This stop does always have a ton of peddlers--much more so than any other stop that I've seen. My room was clean to Vienna but a bit of a mess (empty bottles and wrappers) on the trip back to Prague. However, staff was there to clean up. The seats were comfortable and there is replete legroom. There are lounges in Prague and Vienna train stations but the former was so crowded that I skipped it. The Vienna one was quieter and had some nice touches. You can get juices, coffee, tea, water, and maybe some ice cream. The food inside the train are super cheap (sushi for just a few bucks???) but I didn't try any of it.

It was a very comfortable way to get from one location to the other, with nice seats, entertainment available, and several snack choices along the way. The views on the journey can be quite beautiful too, which you would miss if you took the short plane ride from Vienna to Prague. There are large picture windows at each seat so you can get a good view of the mustard seed fields and landscapes along the way. If you prefer to see the route along the way, and have a mid-morning/afternoon to spare in your travels (we boarded in Vienna at 9am and arrived in Prague at 2pm), then I definitely recommend this service as a very low-cost alternative to flying!

The platform area is pretty with silver and gold signage. This station does have a lift signposted at each entrance, but you are able to use steps, which I prefer as it seems to be a given that subway station lifts stink of urine. As with any Metro Station in Prague, remember to buy a ticket before you board using the ticket machines. They have an English language if you prefer. You must also validate this ticket before boarding. Unlike other subway systems, there aren't traditional ticket gates, so don't get caught out or you'll risk a large fine. It acts as an interchange station between Lines A and B, and I did find it straightforward to get both in and out of the station and between lines if needed using the steps and escalators. I'm not sure about the lift route, but with they were well-signposted. 3* - Pretty average station along the Prague Metro network, the location is useful.
