Had an appointment for my eyes, first time at office arrived 35 minutes early, sign in and sat down. within 10 minutes I was told by front desk to leave the office for additional patients, I came alone not with multiple people. How do you as medical personnel ask a senior citizen to leave reception area and go somewhere else to wait. My Mom just had cataract surgery with Dr. Nissirios and he was fantastic! With laser surgery, he was able to resolve a cataract that had hardened to the point where she practically couldn't see anymore in that eye. Not only that, but he even came to tell us personally that the surgery went well because he knew we were worried about it being a difficult cataract case and she was the last patient of the day. I also want to compliment Debbie, who helped coordinate the surgery - she answered so many questions with unlimited patience and even asked Dr. Nissirios to speak to us at the last minute when we needed to settle an important question before surgery. With Metroeye in Astoria, the staff are friendly and the waiting area is decently comfortable. However, time & time again this location severely over books! I have been waiting for almost 2 hours and that's of course with an appointment. I find it to be very inconsiderate of the client's time. After reading dozens of outstanding reviews for Dr. Nissirios on ZocDoc, I scheduled an appointment with him to see if I'd be a candidate for LASIK. Shortly after booking, he personally called me and answered a few questions I had about needing to keep out my contact lenses for some time before my consultation, making me feel comfortable and confident in my choice to reach out to him. His assistant, Emily, incredibly cheerful and helpful, then took over. She scheduled time for me before my consultation to have a corneal topography and some other tests done at the Laser Center on East 56th Street and 3rd Avenue (the same place I would later have my procedure done). After getting scans at the Laser Center a week later, I went to Dr. Nissirios's office in midtown Manhattan on West 60th Street and Broadway for my consultation. He struck me as a down-to-earth, patient doctor, who genuinely cares about his patients. After looking at the reports from my scans and doing several tests on my eyes himself, he explained to me that while I could technically have LASIK done, it would be a little risky because I have thinner-than-average corneas and a moderately high prescription. He was very good at helping me understand how it all worked, even drawing on paper for me, so I could visualize what he was saying. Instead, he suggested that I undergo a similar procedure called PRK, which I agreed sounded like a better fit. Very patient, he gave me as much time as I needed to ask questions and walked me through everything to expect. By the end of the visit, I was ready to make the move so I went ahead and scheduled the surgery for a Friday afternoon two weeks later. This would give me the weekend to recover and minimize time away from work, as PRK recovery takes longer than LASIK. On the day of surgery, I showed up at the Laser Center, feeling pretty nervous. But once I met the very welcoming nurse, I felt much better. She joked around with me a little while I waited for Dr. Nissirios to arrive. The procedure took less than 15 minutes, way faster than I imagined. My eyes were completely numb the whole time and, honestly, the only discomfort I felt were the parts when he rinsed each eye with cool water. He walked me through everything he was doing. He showed me the instruments he was going to use, explained what I would feel, and gave me a good idea of how long each step would take. He even let me ask questions and talk a little while it was all happening, which really helped me feel more comfortable. Before I knew it, he was having me sit up and asked me read the clock on the wall across the room. Whoa! I was used to not even seeing the alarm clock next to my bed without squinting and holding it up to my face. He made sure my temporary bandage contacts were fitting well and then reviewed the post-op instructions with me and reminded me what to expect for the next few days. He then sent me home with a nice kit of wetting drops, protective sunglasses, and googles to wear for a few nights while sleeping. He also gave me a number to contact him if I needed anything or had questions, something he reiterated several times. My first post-op exam was at his office right in Astoria (closer to home and more convenient for me than Manhattan). I hardly waited at all to see him, which was great. He thoroughly examined my eyes to be sure there was no sign of infection and to see how they were healing. I was in very good shape, so he removed the temporary contacts and again offered to answer any questions I had before I left. I had my second post-op exam last Tuesday in Astoria, about five weeks after the surgery and I've finally found time to post this review. Everything is going really well and I'm almost at 20/20 vision at this point, with the only side-effect being some dryness, which he's reassured me is common and will continue to improve, along with my sight itself. If you're considering refractive eye surgery, I cannot recommend Dr. Nissirios enough. He uses only the latest and best equipment, he has a warm, friendly demeanor, and he shows clear concern for the well-being of his patients. read more

DO NOT SCHEDULE AN APPT I don't like to write reviews but this time I feel that people should be aware what they will be getting before they schedule an appointment. I have very red irritated eyes and I didn't want to go to the emergency so I chose to go to zocdoc and look for an available ophtalmologiste because my usual doctor is not available until the following week. Given this is an emergency, I went with the highest rated doctor this Nissirios and he doesn't deserve any respect nor does his staff. I arrived on my scheduled time at 5pm. I filled out the paperwork hours before coming and expected to be seen in few minute as stated by the incompetent receptionist. I waited for 50 min outside in the street as instructed by the receptionist because they can't have more than 2 people waiting inside. I went in after 50 min to ask when would I be seen because I have to be out before 6:30pm and she said "well there are two people before you and you won't be out by 6:30pm because the doctor is busy and had to see emergency and he is overbooked" I answered saying "this is unacceptable and if he is this busy and not respecting his patient time then you shouldn't put me for 5pm" she looked at me and said "sorry, if it's an emergency then go to the emergency" well I asked for a refund and left the practice. Mr. Nicholas Nissirios, it's the pandemic and you shouldn't have 10 people waiting in the street for their appointment on a hot day. Work on a limited capacity like everyone else around the city. If I wanted to wait hours to be seen, I would have gone to an emergency or an eye clinic walk-in and waited. This was a schedule appointment that you put as available on zocdoc. If I had received a call even an hour before my appointment saying to reschedule, I would have appreciated it instead of waiting for an hour and being treated like I'm begging for money by your staff. Being a doctor also requires you to respect your patients time and have respectful people working for you. The worst experience ever. I went to other doctors during this pandemic and no one had me wait an hour to be seen or told me to wait on the street to be called by an assistant or a doctor. read more

There aren't enough words to describe how amazing this doctor is! I'll admit I was nervous given the long wait during the consultation but the LASIK experience was incredible. I was a nervous wreck and the doctor and his staff were so patient. Someone was holding my hand and rubbing my arm to calm me down. They walked me through every step and the doctor gave me his cell phone number in case I needed anything. If you are nervous this is the place to go!! I went to see Dr. Nissirios for an eye exam and checkup. He was patient and listened to all of my concerns. I used to dread eye exams because I felt as if they never listened, it was a nice change. Took my 8 year old to be checked for glasses on a Saturday. The doctor was great absolutely no complaints. We arrived on time, were the only people in the waiting room and had to wait 45 minutes before being seen. Needless to say, my child was very anxious and restless waiting for that long. The receptionist brought us back to the exam room and explained how she really was a technician and just filling in as receptionist. Let me clarify how for 45 minutes we sat in waiting room, she was making calls to other patients. When she walked us back to exam room, I saw the doctor on the computer surfing the web. To make patients wait unnecessarily for 45 minutes, especially ones with children, shows a lack of respect and concern for other people. My time is valuable too. I will not be returning for the follow up visit that this inconsiderate receptionist/technician has scheduled for us. No thanks read more

I went to Dr Nissirios 3 months ago. I had a condition of Cataracts in both my eyes. Dr Nissirios explained everything in plain language. He is very pleasant, polite, and knowledgable. Over the years I've been to many doctors and I think I am able to appreciate a good doctor when I find one. I did both my eyes with laser, and he's one of the very few doctors that do the laser. He helped me to overcome my fears and everything went very well, and now I'm better than fine, thanks to his expertise. I certainly recommend Dr Nissirios to everyone regardless the problem.
