I was given a phone number by Joel to have a guy named Anthony Grant to install a deadbolt lock in my front door. The guy did an excellent job installing it. However, he leaned against my door twice while installing it causing the doorbell to ring twice. I paid him $255 to install the lock. Plus I paid $87 for the supplies need for installation. 5 hours later (at 8pm) I discovered that my doorbell no longer rings. The bell is jammed on the outside of the door. (not electric). The next day i called Joel & Anthony. Joel said, I told u that ur on your own. Anthony said I didn't cause your doorbell not to ring. In fact, he said I thought u were calling so that I can install a NEW doorbell. I said to him, maybe that's why u jammed it. He said have a nice day & hung up the phone. I've been in my new apt for 13 days. I'm now WITHOUT a doorbell. BEWARE of who Joel recommends. read more

This place indeed has a variety of things, when I went there to get something I thought they would definitely have, they did not. The guy turned on "dumb mode" and was offering me totally wrong items instead, and then said: "anything else you need? I should take my lunch break". I was shocked! This is a family business, and I've stopped by several times since 1996. I remember the old guy-owner, and now his sun taken over this place and all of his family participate, but what I've noticed - they have never been affable enough to me; I've always felt that I was there to bother them, and never knew how to behave to make them smile, say something nice... all I wanted to was to get for what I came and get the f**** out of their hair. It seems they do not need anyone... they built all that just to keep themselves busy... Sorry, but that's how I felt. These people need more customer service skills, more people skills and learn how to be friendlier to their customers, try to please customers, make them want to come back to their store again and again... I've been to this place plenty of times... and this will be the last time I will EVER give them my business. I would always go here because I believe in supporting local businesses instead of the big chain stores. During my previous visits, I have never had to interact with any of the staff because each time I knew what I wanted. I would just look for it and purchase it. Today I needed some information about a screw and a washer that I had because I wanted to purchase a different version of it. I first took it to one of the workers on the floor and asked him. He was confused so he told me to ask the owner. I went to the owner and started to explain what I was looking for and he just cut me off right in the middle of talking and said "Just give me the screw" with a nasty attitude. I couldn't believe he was that rude to cut me off like that. What sense is it to get the screw if you don't even know what I was looking for? He said "You don't have to tell me a story" and then turned his back. I told him to just give me my sh*t back and I will take it to Lowes. I told him "you will never get my business again" and drove over to Lowes 10 min away and got good service and they helped me find what I needed. The owner of Metro is the worst type of business owner and judging from some of the other reviews, I see he has acted this way to others. If you want people's business you better act like you know how to treat people and actually want their business. I see why every time I go here, there's nobody in there. It's either because they get bad service or because this place is dirty and cluttered as hell and everything is covered in dust. read more

This place has the worst customer service. I went to get help with a cartridge and was treated very rudely. The manager or owner who ever he is walked away from me to gossip with someone else and when I tried to get help a second time it was a complete disaster . He told me I would have to pay him for the cartridge as if I was looking to get free merchandise. After he tells me he can order it flips on me says he doesn't want to get involved. I planned to replace several components in my shower had he had an ounce of decency . I ended up walking out since I was treated so nasty. I went else where for help .Was told they get a lot of complaints about this place. From the reviews I see its true. read more

Probably shocking to a lot of folks that a stocked hardware store like this exists in Far Rockaway. No need to go to Home Depot or Lowes.

This is where I go for all of my hardware needs. They have the best selection as well as the best prices. Furthermore the service I get here is unparalleled to any other hardware store. Joel personally takes care of everything from the smallest to the largest issues that I've dealt with. You won't find this type of customer service at Lowes or Home Depot! That's what can only happen at a family run establishment. Looking forward to coming in to do my hardware shopping for many, many years to come! read more
