I have a meeting in the Loop today so I'm headed to the city on the express train which has very few stops. Not all of the trains are express only the ones during rush hour. You can purchase a monthly pass or round trip ticket. Since I do most of my work from home, I buy tickets as needed. My tickets today total a little under $7.50 round trip. For a comfortable and relaxing ride, hit the rail to the Loop!

There's a Starbucks nearby too if you have time to grab something. Depending on when you go, there's usually plenty of parking. The platform does require going up a lot of stairs so be prepared for that little jog. There is an old elevator that you could use but I can't guarantee if it always works or isn't dirty. Platform signs and announcements are clear and easy to understand. And from there you just hop on your correct train, show the conductor your ticket and enjoy the ride!

I didn't use the station for transportation but I did check out the railroad park and found that the rail fan action to be super awesome and nonstop. The place is super welcoming for rail fans and accommodating with no employee hassles which was cool, because I get hassled a lot by rail employees. The whole area is a rail fans paradise with lots of public access to so much action which was just awesome for my visit. This is the station for rail fans that want non stop action that will not let you down, two thumbs up here.

Trying to cross the street from the Calumet metra station parking lot on governors highway is…read morehorrible. The light is all a bit of 5 minutes or more. I have seen people almost get hit trying to cross to catch the train which comes early sometimes. The light needs to be shorter and no we shouldn't have to arrive a half hour early just to cross the street.

It doesn't have heating in the waiting shelter, so you would have to stay in your car in the parking lot to keep warm during the winters. Another thing you should know before traveling, is that the station is actually 1.5 miles away from downtown Dyer, and the trains are regularly late. Lastly, if your train is delayed, there's a Subway and a sessional ice cream shop right next to the station.

But there is NOT a station here, just a building. Need information? Hope it's on one of the poster? Need a bathroom? Hope you can hold it. Need to buy a ticket? Get it on the train with cash. On the north side lot, commuters need a village parking pass. A quick Google shows the police department around the corner sells the passes quarterly on a first come, first serve basis. Told me to stow my bag above. I tell him the train is never full. He says it will fill up. Well it didnt. I left a note for him because I couldn't find him saying: "I thought the train was gonna fill!" So this guy with no self control and wearing a Metra uniform confronts me in the lobby of the station Are you seriously this stupid? Little people with no power. I'm sure you're the pride of Metra and their best employee. Good customer service!
