For some odd reason - my first thought was - Oh, this is how Alex must have felt in episode of Orange is the New Black in Season 6. I literally could not believe that this was really me staring at myself in the mirror. Well, the next thing I did - started to go through Yelp in a frantic search for a good dentist that could help me. After my thorough research, deep into the night, I left several messages to the dentist offices in the area pleading to take me in if they had an opening. This was now Friday morning and the thought of remaining looking like this even past weekend - was frightening. So, next thing that happened - I will never forget. At around 8:30 am - Dr. Liu himself calls me back and I could hear in his voice he nearly felt as bad as I did for what happened. He was absolutely booked solid and his official hours that day were scheduled to end at noon. He considered the options and the best we could come up with is the appointment on Monday. He did give me a glimpse of hope by saying - "I will let you know if I get any time to maybe just examine you". Well, less than an hour later I get a phone call from Dr. Liu - "Ok, I have a little time - just come in, so I can examine and see what is happening". Fast forward several hours - Dr. Liu not only saw me for x-rays, he and his amazing assistant Lesley, arranged for me to stay after hours!! Dr. Liu fixed my chipped front tooth with such perfection, incredible attention to details that, frankly was astonishing. Dr. Liu is sincerely the most compassionate doctor I have ever met. He really strives to address the root of the problem in addition to paying meticulous attention to details. And the price he charged me for this service - was more than fair! I really hope you never have to go through experience like mine but in case something happens - Dr. Liu will help you out, that I am sure of.

I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

They seem very knowledgable and seem to know what they're doing when it comes to dentistry, but my concerns are more in the administration side of things. I changed jobs earlier this year and got new insurance with a common major insurance provider, and I needed to get a procedure done. I asked them what the procedure would cost and they gave me a quote, which was already expensive, and I paid that at the time of service. However, when I came in for a routine cleaning 6 months later, they said the insurance "didn't pay as much as they thought" and stuck me with MORE THAN DOUBLE their original quote. I looked into the insurance claim and called the insurance company myself, and the insurance company paid exactly what was according to their billing schedule. There were no surprises. I think the office knew (or should have known, because they're the professionals and this is what they do) that this would happen, and they dishonestly gave me a lower quote, did the service, and then stuck me with the even more expensive bill (but to their credit, they did give me a lower price than what they billed to insurance, but it was still VERY expensive that I was not prepared for). Additionally, I distinctly recall the procedure treated four teeth, but then on the bill and insurance claim, they say they treated six. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to argue this, especially because it happened so long ago. I suspect they didn't contact me about this issue earlier for this exact reason. Again, dishonest. Another concern with this dentist is that it's unprofessional that they use Zelle to get around credit/debit card transaction fees. Every merchant has to deal with card transaction fees, they shouldn't be up-charging that cost and they shouldn't be using Zelle, which is supposed to just be a peer-to-peer payment network. Lastly, as much as I love dogs, I don't think it's hygienic that they keep a dog in their office. In all, I started off loving this dentist, and very disappointed that they turned out to be this unprofessional and dishonest. I'm sad I'll have to go elsewhere from now on.

The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is soothing, and the doctor seemed to be very experienced and was kind. What is prompting me to write this review is the flat-out scam this place is. I was told on two separate occasions by the front staff that they take my insurance (also Delta Dental) no problem and they would reimburse my money after I paid. So naturally, I paid the amounts after my routine teeth cleaning and a supposed cavity fill ($300 each session) and waited for the reimbursement like they told me. A week or two goes by, no reimbursement. I call again, and the front desk confirms they take my insurance and that the money would come. Another two weeks go by and of course, nothing but a twenty dollar reimbursement. I took matters into my own hands, saw a previous Yelp review saying they experienced the same thing, called my insurance, and they told me that no, Dr. Nelson's office does not take my insurance. I advise if you have Delta Dental DO NOT GO HERE! They will lie and tell you you are fully covered but you aren't!!

First time in the office, I was impressed by the front area. It's an older looking building but they did a nice job making the front look good. But that is where any updates ended. The bathroom was gross - grime on the sink and toilet. Again, I understand if it's an older building but if you can make the front look nice, you should update the bathroom. The rooms for patients were so small that the hygienist was practically leaning right over the top of me the whole time (as opposed to being comfortably off to the side). It was very awkward and uncomfortable. The hygienist did not do a good job as the current dentist I'm seeing asked if I've received a cleaning in the last two years. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months. Additionally , Dr Mitchell saw me a maximum of 2 minutes. My kids also had appointments and my 11 year old son had a dark spot on an adult tooth in the back. I could see it clear as day. When I asked about it, they said it wasn't a cavity. Took him to a new dentist 6 months later and it's a cavity and has been this whole time because decay has spread to the next tooth. Unfortunately you can't trust online reviews when there are incentives given. I learned the hard way.
