My problem is with the Rx line. I left a message saying that a lotion Dr. Messenger prescribed didn't work and could they send in a different prescription to my pharmacy. I made the mistake of assuming this would be taken care of correctly. I was wrong: They sent in the identical prescription and I didn't realize that until I left the pharmacy, at which point it was too late to return it. read more

He was one of the most caring doctors that I have had. His bed side manor is the best!

I saw Dr. Xu for less than 5 minutes. He glanced at my problem issues. and told me they were not serious. He admitted he could remove a spot on my face, but I would need to make another appointment with him or with their on staff plastic surgeon! For this visit, I received a bill for over $200. I made another appointment with their plastic surgeon. He advised me that my small spot would have to be removed in their surgery center with the use of an anesthetic. It is a small spot! I declined. Now I have to make an appointment with a different dermatologist (since I am not going back to Messenger.) read more

I can't say enough about Messenger Dermatology. I spent months seeing different doctors and trying meds that didn't work -- come to find out, some weren't even dermatologists! My condition only got worse. Once I came here, everything changed. They're highly trained specialists who know what they're doing. No coddling, no gimmicks -- just real, effective medicine. I wouldn't trust anyone else for surgery or serious care. read more

At a appointment in Dr Greg Messengers office in Mount pleasant, he kept yawning, was insulting and needs to retire, regarding the problem I was trying to explain to him. Also the spots I had him look at he never said how to get rid of them or any explanation at all, only the medical name which doesn't tell me anything. TIME TO RETIRE. This was a doctor I have went to for 30 or more years. Not anymore. read more

I brought my two teenage daughter to see Dr. Gallagher this week. Before they came out raving about their visit-- clear direction on what to do next, a thoughtful and caring visit, I observed the woman at the front desk field calls, check people in and out, and show patients where to go. What struck me was her patience and kindness.! I wouldn't have been flustered by all the simultaneous demands but she was cool and kind throughout. Highly recommend! read more

Dr. Messenger the son, is who I saw. All of the staff minus Beth were very pleasant and polite. The Doctor was very professional throughout the whole process. I am very disappointed in Manager Beth. I feel she should get more training when It comes to filling out paperwork for those who are needing to be off for an extended amount of time. My work uses Guardian for my main short-term policy with an option to purchase AFLAC as a supplemental policy. I was seen for multiple visits requiring me to be off for several months. I drive for a living and unfortunately where the procedures were done, I was in no way able to drive while they needed time to heal. This lady filled out my paperwork for Guardian for a month which is NOT what Dr. Messenger, myself and my primary doctor discussed. I had my primary doctor fill out the guardian paperwork as we discussed, therefore rendering her paperwork useless. As far as my AFLAC paperwork, I had to see if Dr. Messenger could sign some paperwork for the AFLAC and she decided to have only allowed it for my last visit. So essentially she wrote me off for my first and last visit but not the four other treatments in between. Her response was that I was "Double Dipping". I last stopped in Feb 12th to only see the paperwork incorrectly filled out. Today the 26th of Feb, I got a certified letter stating I am no longer a client and to seek care somewhere else. Thanks Dr. Messenger! Really sad your Manager is running your business in the ground. Will I recommend this place? As long as Beth is not a manager, I will. (proceeded with caution) read more

Long wait, not terribly friendly staff at the front desk, and Dr. Greg (Sr.), while technically probably very good at his job, claimed in my notes to have discussed with me the possibility of nerve damage before removing a pyogenic granuloma from my 4th finger (I'm a professional pianist); this discussion did not actually happen -- if it had I would have asked about other options. I also had a biopsy that apparently came back to the office 2 days after the appointment, and almost a month later I still haven't heard from anyone re: the results. The wound is healing, but the nerves are extremely sensitive, and don't seem to be getting a lot better as it heals, which makes me very nervous. He was in the room with me for three minutes. I realize it's a busy practice, but you should know enough about your patients, and slow down if you don't, so you don't risk compromising the rest of their career. read more

Concerned about 3 small spots on my face I thought it best to get a skin check with a dermatologist. Called Messenger Dermatology and they said I'd be seeing Dr Greggory Messenger Sir. At the appointment he briefly looked at my face, rattled off long medical term names and said that 2 of 3 spots were nothing but the 3rd should be addressed at some point. At some point??? I explained numerous times that was my time at a dermatologist, didn't know what to expect or questions to ask other than are they cancerous. He was very vague, non-cancerous but lead me to believe they should be removed. He was extremely rough and I had an overwhelming feeling of regret even before seeing what he had done. I was SHOCKED to see 3 nickel sized bright red & bloody circles on my face, 2 on one cheek and 1 on the other. He said "there you go" and walked out. Literally in shock and disbelief I wanted to cry. No mention of healing time, after care, scaring or follow-up by anyone. I could not get out of that office fast enough!! It has now been 4 months, no one has called from Messenger Dermatology to inquire on how I'm doing. All 3 spots are still bright red & one left a large pit/indent. To add insult his office billed over $600 to my insurance. Although money was never an issueI I can't help but feel this was extremely inflated. In closing, I need to add I realize I am partially responsible by not asking more questions and more so, for putting trust in this doctors hands. For this reason only I have not filed a formal complaint. I will never go back to Messenger Dermatology or recommend them to anyone. read more

I'm surprised by the negative reviews -- I've had several visits at this practice, for my own basal cell carcinoma and rosacea, and several for removal of warts my 10-year-old daughter had on her hands. The staff was always friendly, although you WILL generally wait a bit for your appointment time. We generally see Dr. Greg Jr., who we like very much. He was especially patient and gentle with my daughter, and the nurse or MA who assisted him was wonderful as well. (I wish I could remember her name, she was great!) I will say that I do NOT care for Dr. Poletes, as I feel his manner is quite abrasive. He did my skin graft after my Mohs surgery, and I did not return to him for other other cosmetic procedures but instead went to a doctor in Grand Rapids (Dr. Bengston, who I liked very much). read more

I have several sons that were attending this practice. While I cannot say that our Doctors interactions with us were negative I will give a negative review based on the discrimination displayed by their office as a whole regarding vaccination status. While my family has always followed CDC safe practices, discrimination based on vaccination status should be illegal. The very fact that a patient is refused care based solely on the Covid vaccination is irrational. My family has always followed the masking rule where noted and were happy to continue wearing our mask out of caution to others who were concerned. So even though the government and the CDC are now removing masking orders this practice is asking if you are Covid vaccinated and refusing to see patients not vaccinated. I will go to another provider! Cannot recommend this practice to anyone for this reason. read more

I just got out of surgery at U of m hospital for melanoma. I was told to call dr Gregory Messenger dermatology office for my follow up visits. I call the office to make an appointment and the receptionist said "do you have the Covid Vaccination" I replied no but I've been tested three times in the past month. They said I can't get an appointment without the vaccine. This is a violation of my civil rights and plan to sue this group. read more

This is a busy (expect a long wait) dermatology practice. I have seen Dr. English several times and she is wonderful. She takes her time, explains things clearly, is kind and gentle, and listens well. I highly recommend her. I also saw Dr. Messenger once for a cyst removal and he did a great job - no scar, no pain. The practice itself is fine. The staff could be friendlier. The wait could be shorter. But I don't choose a dermatologist based on whether or not I like the person at the front desk. My last appointment was at 10:15 and I didn't go back to the exam room until 10:50. I was told at check-in that there would be a delay. I left at 11:30. It was a wait, but in the end setting aside an hour and a half for an appointment isn't all that terrible. Just bring a book. read more

I had an appointment at 3:40 and arrived before my appointment time and heard the man in front of me check in for a 4:00 appointment...they took him back before me, leaving me to wait more than thirty minutes in the lobby. My daughter and I both had a + COVID test over a month ago. Fortunately we both had relatively mild symptoms and recovered with no issues. My daughter has since had a Dentist appointment and I have had an unrelated DR appointment. In both instances the medical professionals were aware of our previous covid tests but because the + tests were over a month ago and we had no current symptoms the appointments went fine. After re-arranging my schedule and my daughter missing school I took her to her dermatology appointment this AM only to be told at the door that because she had a + COVID test within the last 60 days they would not see her. While I feel 60 days is a bit overkill it's not my business and I can't fault anyone for being overly careful with COVID. However, how about giving me the courtesy of telling me your covid policy when I made the appointment, or printing it on the paperwork I had to fill out or god forbid putting it on your website. Instead, I find out after taking time off work/school and showing up only to be turned away. With a policy this broad...60 days....and covid heading the direction it is you would think they would put this information out there and let patients know. Even after expressing my displeasure...the receptionist really didn't care less. It was an 'oh well, sucks to be you' reaction. I will be looking elsewhere. read more

This is for Dr. Zu specifically. My husband goes to Dr. Messenger and likes him. I wish there was a way to give zero stars to Dr. Zu, though he did identify a malignant spot on my chest. After going to a surgeon (Zu recommended) to get it removed, and that surgeon "missing" it (!!), Xu said I should have had him (Zu) remove it as he specializes in Mohs. I said he didn't mention it. He said it is a patient's responsibility to research and ask questions. What? He was the one who suggested the surgeon to remove the spot! I believe he also lied to me. Though the practice doesn't have the record of my second appt, that's when Xu took a second biopsy and said the test showed the spot in question was a fast-growing cancer that reappeared after surgery. BS. That "spot" was there when I removed the bandage from the surgery (3 days after the surgery). I went to another surgeon who said there's no way it would have grown back in 3 days, then stayed the same size for three months before I had a second surgery. Stay away from Dr. Zu. Also I wrote the practice informing them of these actions, but no response. Not sure what I expected. read more

I read past reviews so I was prepared to wait in the lobby for a while before my appointment. That didn't happen. My appointment was at 11 and I was back in my car at 11:20. I didn't see the doctor, I saw the assistant (which is just fine) BUT she never even looked at my rashes or did any sort of exam. She didn't look at any of my pictures that I wanted to show her of how it's progressing. Told her about swollen lymph nodes with rash and still didn't request to look at anything. Prescribed me a cream (that I already told the nurse I have & isn't working for the rash) and told me to use Dove soap because I have eczema. Wtf. read more

Everyone was wonderful from the front desk, M.A. to Dr. Messenger Jr. I was scared and everyone was very kind and made me feel comfortable. I would highly recommend this office. Thank you. read more

Dr Messenger is a very good doctor. He has great bedside manners and I feel very confident when I go to see him.

Today was my first time visiting this office. My two daughters saw the pediatric dermatologist, and she was great! We were taken back to the examination room right on time, we didn't have to wait long for the doctor, and my daughters' skin issue was taken care of in a caring, gentle way. read more

After 3 years of dealing with leg wound issues we went to see Dr. Xu. Yes we had to wait a while but I don't find that unusual for a specialist. The doctors a good but the wait times are extremely long. I've never been seen at my appointment time and the earliest is half an hour past my appointment and usually closer to 45 minutes past. I would recommend going somewhere else if time is an issue. read more

I've been waiting now for an hour. Staff is rude and no one gives a shit. I won't be back

Don't go here! This place is awful! Expect to be greeted by rude staff, sit in the waiting room for at least an hour past your appointment time (I sat for 90 minutes) and then be seen by incompetent doctors. Had to go to a different dermatologist 2 days later for a second opinion and was told I did not receive adequate or proper treatment for my condition. Ever wonder why you can't get through when you call? Watch the staff when you are sitting in the waiting room for the 60+ minutes and you'll see why. read more

This is a doctor-centered practice, not a patient-centered practice. Expect to wait for more than an hour to see a doctor who will spend as little time with you as he/she can. I am now seeing a dermatologist from the University of Michigan from whom I have received excellent care, a competent diagnosis and treatment plan. It takes 40 minutes to drive from Lansing to the U of M Specialty care in Brighton where your wait will be less than 10 minutes and the doctor will take as much time as needed to assess your problem and develop a treatment plan. read more

I was nervous after reading some of the reviews on here, but I had a great experience here. It took about 15 minutes after my appointment time to be called back, but their office is very busy and wait times could be worse. The nurse was very nice and that was comforting. I saw Dr. Greggory Messenger and who I am assuming is his medical assistant. Both were very nice and professional. I had a head to toe check for any abnormal spots and Dr. Messenger was very thorough, professional, and explained my options to me. I had the choice to get moles removed if I wanted to but it wasn't necessary. He did not pressure me one way or another and even said I didn't have to decide today. I got to make my own choice and I decided to have them removed. He explained the procedure to me and talked through what he was doing. There was the poke to numb it and after that I didn't feel a thing. We talked about how we met our spouses and I was very comfortable and it was over before I knew it. Definitely recommend this office. read more

Should have read reviews before I considered going there. I went for a referral first time visit. Arrived 15 minutes early for an 8 am appointment. At 8 am they finally had me fill out paperwork. At 8:40 I checked in with the front desk to find out why I was still waiting. Was told there was one person ahead of me. When I asked how long of a wait it would be, was told they couldn't answer that since appointments often include procedures. At 8:50 was put back in a room....and was told the doctor would be right in. At 9:05, I finally stepped out of the room to ask what was going on. Heard discussion in hall, but no one came back in to give me an update. At 9:15, finally left and will never set foot in the place again. Complete disrespect and crappy attitude that I won't tolerate. Consideration of being on time is a two way street and this Dr.s office has none. read more

Simply put...you shouldn't be running more than an hour late for a simple appointnent. It leaves too much time to give a poor rating. Without going into details, I've had two appointments in the past week and have had to wait a combined 3.5 hours. That's disrespectful of my time. I agree with other feedback that staff is rude as well. read more

"Buyer Beware". Messenger Dermatology is an assembly line. I went there for a cancer screening which Dr Wu did perform on my scalp and upper torso. He told me that there were 3 areas on my scalp and one on my face. Doctor/patient interaction was below minimal. He took a layer of skin (not informing me before hand how the procedure was to performed) and sent it off for a biopsy. About 3 days later his assistant called and said that the sample came back positive for squamous cell carcinoma and that Wu would perform the Mohs surgery next week...she said to plan on possibly spending an entire day there because Wu will remove a small portion of skin, have an in-house biopsy, and if cancer remains then repeat until all cancer removed. The idea is to leave as small a scar as possible. Small portions of skin! That didn't happen, again little interaction or explanation and he went right to it by removing a large chunk of my scalp (about a 2 x 3 cm) leaving a good size hole. The assistant called me after about an hour and half and told me I was cancer free. No kidding. What about the other areas? No pre or post operative instructions, no vitals ever taken and his assistant told me to wash the wound with soap and water and then to put petroleum jelly on the wound. My family physician said it was a hack job, put me on an antibiotic, and said NO to petroleum jelly. 76 years old and this was my worst experience ever with a clinic and medical doctor....you have been warned. read more

The wait to see Dr. Messenger was 2 and a half hours. Luckily, I was seeing Dr. English and waited an hour. I had 2 lesions removed because they were itching and bleeding, and because of this, insurance will pay. But she billed it wrong so it wasn't paid for. I could have had up to 14 removed for the same price, but was not told this. read more

I am very unimpressed with Messenger Dermatology. Front desk staff was rude, my concerns were dismissed by the doctor who told me I was over thinking my health concerns, AND I had waited over an hour and a half for a scheduled appointment. Do not go here. read more

Please go anywhere else. Their staff is always rude. You always have long hold times for phone calls. The wait is even more ridiculous. Plan on at least an hour wait (usually more) after your appointment time. I quit treatment halfway through because the office staff is so rude, non-empathetic, and the constant excessive waiting was way too impeding, regardless of the times I made my appointments. The doctors do not care about this, nor the office manager. People keep going, so what do they care about retention? Go somewhere where you will be valued, appreciated, and will receive the care you deserve. read more

I have been seeing Dr Messenger for a couple years after having a melanoma removed. I have had nothing but excellent care and treatment from the Doctors and staff. Those complaining about the staff not knowing the billing charge ahead of the appointment must recognize that this is a Specialist's Office not a family practice GP. If I go in for a full body scan it will be different than for review of a lesion. It often depends on what is found during the appointment. I have been more than satisfied with the services. I have never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes. All things considered, that is pretty good. read more

I called Dr Messenger's office a few days ago to set up an appointment to have them look at a mole on my wife's calf. The scheduler gave me 2 options within a 24 hour time and this was during the Covid time. Yesterday we met with DR Greg Messenger JR and he saw us within 20 minutes after our scheduled appointment. He made a diagnosis but said his father Dr Greg Messenger would be in to confirm. Within 10 minutes Dr Messenger, senior came in and agreed with diagnosis and immediately did a biopsy and explained everything to the both of us. He set us up for blood test & X-rays and confirmed we would have results of biopsy within 7 days. He said that should we decide, he would recommend U of M for treatment if cancer was found. At all times both Messenger's were professional and informing as well as showed concern for my wife and also my concerns. I definitely recommend Messenger Dermatology where you will be treated with respect. Like all DR's offices, your appointment may be delayed and most of the time is because we, as patients ask many questions that delay the DR's time when seeing his next patient. So keep that in mind when seeing your DR. read more
