They're home grown, good quality, and consistently delicious. We stopped there to take a rest after a long drive on our way to Tifton to pick up our niece from ABAC for the holidays. I had been curious about the store because we had always passed it without stopping, so my sister pulled over just so I could peak inside and I was thoroughly intrigued. As a city girl who never lived in a population of less than 850,000 people (Phoenix AZ), I just wanted to see a slice of old school Americana from back when my ancestors were slaves down south. We were looking at all the old candy I had not seen since I was a child and laughing about old memories of our grandmother and the awesome book collection. There were at least $100 worth of books I wanted to buy (4 of them), but I said I'd have to return later and purchase them and took pictures of the ones I wanted just so I wouldn't forget. Everything was lovely until... The saleslady was pleasant enough, but my sister is a retired educator and I am a retired paralegal who has worked for some of the best lawyers in the nation. I keep my eyes open and miss very little, but the visit was marred by a call to the local police. I don't know if that officer just "stops in for little Mayberry-type visits" or what, but I took note that he pretended like he was just paying her a visit and being who I am, I was taught to not miss anything going on around me -- details are extremely important and I felt very invaded. Having Black people working in the store doesn't make things less racist in Podunk USA where "Trumpers" dwell, but trust - I could see certain people in the store peeking at us like we were stealing. I am an ordained licensed minister. I'm sure God saw it too, and was not pleased. He knows my name. I'm 65 and she's 68. We're both retired and too old to be doing stupid things like that and we simply weren't raised that way, but I wanted them to know I saw the entire thing. I did not alert my sister to it, I just told her let's get our little purchases and go just before she asked for the cup of ice. The shame is that I was enjoying myself immensely on my first visit, while looking at all the little novelties like the collection of John Deere tractors ... until i saw THAT. It's a shame Black people can't just enjoy themselves in this part of the world without being suspect, even by their own race. Being trained for it is the same as being it. I can't help feeling like a white person could have come in there and actually stole something and she'd never have called the cops on them. It was very southern backwoods typical. read more

We broke down just up the road on the way home from vacation. My husband had to work on our vehicle for two days to get it running (we live 2 hours from here). The workers at this store were so kind to us. The janitor continued to check on my husband as he was out in the heat working. The workers did not charge us for any water to keep cool. The fuel prices are reasonable, and hopefully you're lucky enough to catch some of the fruits and vegetables in season. If not, there's always their little market inside that has all sorts of WONDERFUL homemade items as well as fresh pecans of all sorts!! Whenever I drive to or from Albany I have to stop here for snacks and to use the restroom. They have a nice big clean restroom in the back. The store really is the epitome of Pecan Everything. Pies, nuts, sauces etc you name it. Just bring your wallet because some of it is not cheap but the thing about it is its homemade. Big difference. Friendly folks and just looking at the place you kind if feel like you have stepped back in time but that's ok too. Very nostalgic. A recent trip to Albany, GA brought me to this location. I needed gas, and as I was driving along route 520, I saw a sign that prompted that a Chevron gas station was coming up and since I needed gas, I was happy to see the sign also prompted that they had clean bathrooms, because while I needed gas. I also needed to go to the bathroom. As I pulled in I laughed at the general store sign that hangs above the store, and thought to myself that some collector of antique signs would love this place. This quaint little store, made me feel welcomed and the bathrooms were indeed clean. Gas was a simple $3.59 a gallon for regular gas and a 32 oz cup of ice was 29 cents. Staffed by two ladies and a man that I'm sure performs the janitorial duties because on my ride back up, I stopped here again, clean bathroom get me every-time when traveling. The two ladies had switched out with two other ladies, but he was still there. Also sells fresh pre-cracked pecans. Pecan Farm, General Store and Gas station. Also has lottery. I want to give them fewer stars, but as for what they are advertising, it's there. Clean restrooms and convenience store fare. I was expecting a big store with all kinds of pecan items. The pecans seem more like an afterthought with the pecans and jams and jellies pushed over into one small area. That said, we bought the milk chocolate pecans and they are delicious. We get their pecans every fall from a friend who sells them for fund raising. read more

Although they have a great selection of pecan-related and other products, the quality is sometimes poor. For example, I purchased the "Chocolate Caramel Pecan Patties". After eating the first one I noticed an unusual taste. Reading the ingredients, the first one was milk chocolate, but the second was, not pecans, not caramel, but "Artificial Vanilla Flavor". Can you believe that? What would be wrong with just pecans covered with chocolate and caramel? Why add the artificial flavoring? That just ruined the taste for me. And the pecans were not large halves but a smattering of a few broken pieces. Very disappointing. Read the ingredients carefully on all products; e.g., some of the sauces have cheaper, unhealthier ingredients as fillers. read more

We stop at Merritt's a dozen or so times every year, as the midway between home and Atlanta. We have always enjoyed their pecans and other delightful southern food items.
