Signed up for merril edge and I was super excited. The first thing I noticed was that after I deposited 350 dollars into my account it showed that I had 700 balance available to me. Seems great I understand the concept of leverage and assumed that I would be charged 8% annual basis for the leverage... But in reality this was an intentional trap. After I used my balance to purchase 2 Tesla stocks I was immediately asked for more money. This was in turn followed by demands and eventually an SEC violation known as free riding. What happened next was not terribly surprising. They forcibly sold the stock after I didn't put more money in then deducted from my account the difference as the stock had gone down. What happened next was truely shocking. I was showing a negative 600 balance. Despite the fact that the price difference between my purchase price and the sale price was only nearly 60 dollars. The debt somehow ballooned into 600? My next action was to close the account which is still in the process. Magically somehow they are now showing that my balance is + usd $ 290 my inital deposit was 350 and the stock that I had purchased on my own has gone up into nearly + $40. Meaning they fucking jacked $90 bucks when in reality if everything had been honest and as legitimate as they appeared to be I would be up $80. This is despite the fact that my broker assured me that my account would be limited as much as possible to avoid this sort of accident. I was never offered ANY free trades. Even after I walked in and asked politely for free trades and was told I would soon get some. Motherfucker thought he taking me for a ride by asking if I could give him more money and I appeared positive to the idea. I never received notification of that happening. I would describe my experience with Merrill edge as bad infrastructure engineering at best and fraudulent deception at worst. My only hope now is that SEC law requires them to not sell my stock and reap another portion of the assets as it transfers to E trade. Moral of the story is the banks are shit heads that will scheme to take your money through any trap they can build and try to make you think it's somehow your fault. I literally would have been better off not trusting these vile snakes and keeping my money under my mattress to slowly depreciate in value through inflation. Matter of fact fuck the USD fuck the banks go bitcoin or precious metals to store your wealth. These clowns think they own you... And they do as long as we use their systems of oppression. read more

Beware - Merrrill Edge Charges Exit Fee After having my account at Merrill Edge for eleven years, I moved it to another brokerage. They charged me an exit fee of $49.95. This is unusual at a brokerage. Be aware of the fee before you open an account. They will charge you to close it. read more

I have had a online Bank of America banking and a Merill Edge, account sine 2011- as a personal account! . WHEN i made a few trades back in 2011, these were problematic, no execution! Option trading was absurd! Supervisors would contact me then for fixing problems! So now in December 14th -2016, at BofA Rosemead, I stopped with the Merrill Edge Rep, Peggy Pong, and together we filled out all applications, options agreements, IRS EIN document, Trust agreements, everything! Understand the 3 Bank accouts I have at BofA are in my 1996 and 2015 trusts also! So having a current existing Merrill edge account for years, I wanted a TRUST account, and close the Personal account! ALL matrial faxed to Merill Edge, per Peggy Pong! 3 weeks later still no opened account! Multiple calls inquiring about why 3 weeks to open a simple account when this is a offshoot of my 3 BofA bank accounts, as these are TRUST with EIN numbers! Imagine for years I have been a VIP to Preferred Platinum Customer to boot at BofA. ! FInally 3 calls today, and I get this call back they actually closed as I demanded my old account, and linked the new account! So for all this crap, I am entitled to 30 free trades a month! The OPTIONS pricing for trades is overpriced as compared to TRADE KING, or Option House, and I have trade accounts at Optionsxpress and Option House as well as Ameritrade and now Tradier! WHEN trading execution is everything! THE experience of opening the above account, the people I spoke with, the Commissions charged for Options, all in all I will stay with Ameritrade and Options Express! Tradier is another thought and just opened an account with TRADIER, this linked to a Platform I use also! I just opened an account last week and i was told that i only have to wait 1 day and i can transfer my money to my savings account. And they even told me a date which is today Dec 22 and i will have my money. But, when i called and asked for transfer.... its a different story already.. that i have to wait another week. 2015 or so---This morning the market was active and down 1,000 points at one point. I wanted to make some trades. I had no problem with making online trades using Schwab, but the Merrill Edge web site was completely stalled and not usable at all. 2018 Update--In the recent volatility, the site worked for me while schwab and fidelity did not. read more

Started the process of settling my Mother's estate 8/30/17. Almost 5 1/2 months later still struggling. Liquidating a single account should have been very straightforward. The level of incompetence is staggering. Paperwork which was sent registered mail or UPS overnight "must have gotten lost in the mailroom". They suck plain and simple. I was appointed POA because my mom is ill. I needed funds to pay for her health care. They keep asking for more and more documents. Each time I send a fax in its something else. They will put you through the ringer and make you jump through so many hoops you will lose count. It's been a month and I still don't have the money I requested. Buyer Beware. I am also concerned that their actions may not be on the up and up. I've spent so much time faxing and phone calls had it not been for the fact that I'm self employed I would surely be fired from not being able to conduct my business. If I could I would give this institution ZERO stars. They took my money with no qualms, but when it comes to taking money out, they simply won't make it easy to do. Their online transfer says you exceed the limit and call a toll free number. The limit is not stated, and even the person I spoke to had no idea what the limit is. Secondly, after asking me a whole bunch of questions to verify my identity he could not even execute the transfer. Then he wanted me to write to them requesting the transfer and attach a photo ID too. I am so fed up with them, that I am going to sell out all investments and close my account with this supercilious attitude they show to customers. Keep your money in some other institution. If you want a modern on-line brokerage stay away from Merrill Edge. The web platform is OK and you can certainly execute trades. But it is their mentality that really renders the experience to truly poor. If you submit a trade, ME can at their discretion reply with "Rejected!" That's it, no reason for the rejection. Within the bowels of Merrill Edge are people that review the trades and using a secret algorithm, accept or reject the trade. Trying to find the reason requires customer service who then must call down to the bowels. Merrill Edge has a paternalistic view of trading and if they don't like what they see, they send out "Rejected!" There is no sense in debating any "Rejected" trade with customer service for they are no more than pro wrestling referees - they cannot overrule the grand poobahs of Merrill Edge. There are so many good on-line brokerages out there: stay away from Merrill Edge. read more

Caveat emptor!! Heed the prior review and this one! I have been trying to help my 90 year old father transfer his funds to his checking account for 6 weeks. Instead of providing a comprehensive packet of forms to sign all at once, we have had to fill out one form after another individually, each time being told, "We need another document". Two authorization forms for a wire transfer have gotten "lost" 3 times. The company's systemic lack of organization is ASTONISHING. God help you if you are elderly and without anyone to help you navigate their convoluted phone prompts and inconsistent rep directions! Truly, the NJ Attorney General and the BBB needs to be notified about Merrill's extremely poor customer service. read more

I have held an account with Merrill Lynch for several decades. However, since moving to Merrill Edge online banking, we have had difficulty getting funds for a cancelled check returned to our account, even after communicating with numerous advisors via email and phone! Each time we have been told that the funds would be returned in 1-2 days, but after 6 weeks we still have no access to our money (a significant amount, in the tens of thousands)! I am concerned that their actions may be unethical. Will update as things progress. read more

Amen to 3 previous reviewers. I have been working 6 months w/ Edge on a trust account to get the deceased trustee changed to the new trustee and an old address corrected. Filled out all forms requested and spent countless hours on the phone but deceased trustee's name and old address still reign supreme on statements. Unbelievably bad service. Reps are cordial but Merrill Edge's systems must be crap. Avoid at all costs. read more
