I had a very concerning experience with Dr. Elise Durville during an emergency visit for my dog. I brought my dog in with clear signs that something serious was wrong, including visible distress, pain, and significant bleeding with clotting (I showed photos). Despite this, I was told it was a urinary tract infection and was sent home with antibiotics, without additional diagnostics such as bloodwork. I called back a few hours later, asking if a pain medication could be filled as it was obvious she was in quite some pain. I was told UTI's are not painful and that my dog is clearly just an anxious dog. After continuing to push for pain medication, she begrudgingly filled the script. Over the next several hours, my dog's condition worsened further. I called a final time reporting escalating symptoms -- severe pain, inability to lie down, elevated heart rate, and a distended abdomen. I specifically asked if I should bring her back to the ER and was told these symptoms were "standard" for a UTI and that returning was NOT necessary. Completely invalidated my concerns and made me feel like I was crazy for calling back again. Trusting my instincts, I brought her to another emergency hospital. That decision saved her life. She was diagnosed with rodenticide toxicity and was internally bleeding from every single major organ -- a life-threatening condition requiring immediate care. I was told that delaying treatment any further could have been fatal. If I listened to Dr. Durville, my dog would not be alive. Dr. Durville later called to confirm it was not a UTI, but there was little acknowledgment of the earlier dismissal of symptoms or the guidance provided. She did not apologize until I asked her for an apology and I do not feel as though there was enough accountability to ensure this never happens again to another dog, which is why I write this post in warning. This experience was incredibly distressing, and I remain steadfast that the severity of my dog's condition was not appropriately assessed. Not only did bringing her to MPV not help my dog, it only made it worse and delay her getting the critical care she needed to survive this. Which consisted of 2 nights in the ICU, multiple blood transfusions, and a $10,000 bill. I am also still awaiting reimbursement for the initial $800 visit, which did not include diagnostics that may have identified the issue sooner. I share this in hopes that future concerns are taken seriously and thoroughly evaluated, especially when symptoms indicate something more severe. read more

They charged me $380 for antibiotics my regular vet would have charged $80 for. Their explanation 4 days later was emergency medications are more expensive. I understand vet charges and tests but medication? And they demanded payment without offering me an option for just enough until my regular vets office was open. I was happy with the level of care but feel violated by the cost of the meds read more

This weekend, we rushed our 6-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Milli, to Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency Hospital after she unknowingly consumed a poisonous mushroom. We had no idea what had happened until she suddenly became unable to walk and started seizing. The incredible team at MPVEH took Milli in immediately, and without a doubt, saved her life. If it weren't for the swift action, expertise, and genuine compassion of Dr. Angel and her team, we would be telling a very different story. From the bottom of our hearts -- thank you. We will be forever grateful to this amazing team of doctors for giving us more time with our girl. read more

Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency - Veterinarians Near Me - Meredith, New Hampshire

I had an extremely serious and potentially fatal emergency involving my cat, and this clinic completely failed us. My cat ingested ribbon--something any competent veterinarian knows can be deadly if not treated quickly. I called ahead 30-40 minutes before arrival and was explicitly told by the receptionist to come in and that our spot would be saved. Based on that assurance, I drove over 30 minutes in a panic, believing my cat would be treated. When we arrived, they refused to even look at my cat and turned us away at the door. Let me be clear: this was not a minor issue. Ribbon ingestion can cause intestinal blockage, internal damage, and death. Their complete lack of urgency, compassion, or basic professionalism forced me to scramble and drive another two hours to find help elsewhere. Their excuse? That inducing nausea "might cause side effects." If that was truly their policy, why tell me to come in at all? Why knowingly waste critical time in a medical emergency? The veterinarian wouldn't even come out to speak to me. Thankfully, Caves in Concord actually behaved like an emergency clinic. Within 10 minutes, my cat vomited up over 6 inches of ribbon and is now home recovering. They treated her with kindness and urgency--and even gave her a blanket for the ride home. Calling yourself an emergency vet while refusing to treat a life-threatening emergency is unacceptable. This clinic showed shocking poor communication, and zero compassion. Their actions could have cost my cat her life. I absolutely cannot recommend this place to anyone who cares about their pet. read more

I really wanted to be happy that this service is here for our community but I cannot give it a good review. It was a bad experience. This review is about a 10 year old cat who appeared paralysed and to be in severe pain from an unwitnessed injury. The encounter was approx. 1 month ago. Here are the high points. 1.) We were dismayed that they did not open until 10 a.m. We were there when they opened. They were not onsite all night, we asked. No emergencies. 2.) The tech that did our initial intake kept her back to us the most of the time, appeared bored and uninterested. 3.) The Vet came into the room with a lot of intense energy, far more than the situation called for. She spoke very loudly did not approach us or our pet in a calm manner. Loud, the whole place was unnecessarily loud. Overly-stimulating, not calming. Her approach to a sick, scared animal was 100% unacceptable. If we were not in dire straights we would have left. The Vet used a falsetto sing-songy voice and spoke to us like we were children (we are medical professionals). 4.) The cat had a major adrenalin dump from the whole "carrier to car to Vet" experience so the cursory exam the Vet did revealed nothing except a freaked out, scared animal. 5.) Waiting to check out. This is where they lost us. We waited to be checked out and waited and waited until I finally went to the desk said please, our animal is wildly afraid, he is out of his element, it is noisy, may we please get him checked out and be on our way? Big mistake. This terrible affront was taken as a personal insult against the tech who had to get in a few nasty digs while giving us our bill. We could overhear everything taking place out back; they were socializing. 6.) Vet noted pale gums and recommended a blood panel ($500.00 typically) we declined this attempt at an upsell. Ridiculous. He was there for a pain emergency. They sent us home w no confidence, no diagnosis and no pain meds. We had to call later in the day, explain ourselves and they called in some Gabapentin for him. We had to explain to the girl at the desk exactly why we were asking for pain meds, as if under a criminal interrogation. He was still under their care. 7.) If we have a pet emergency again we would go to Concord to avoid this place we had a TRULY UNPROFESSIONAL experience. The Vet we dealt with was young, inexperienced and had a very excitable bedside manner. E Vets should be so calm you wonder if they have a pulse. One last thing. The local Vets are going corporate and you would do well to find yourself an old fashioned country Vet if any still exist. Meadow Pond in Moultonborough "went corporate" and Dr. Keenan and Dr. North, to whom we were loyal for years did not have the professional courtesy to tell their clientele that they had sold to a corporate entity and were moving to Florida. The new corporate model puts you in front of an office manager first who with luck will get you in to see the Vet, and the care is now very protocol driven, complete with upselling. Now quite impersonal. You probably do not need a $500. blood panel. They will sell you very expensive dog and cat food and the meds are extraordinarily expensive. You will receive corporate mailings regarding your pet, advertising sales. Your pet will receive emails. Your pet's pets will receive emails until eternity runs out. read more

My husband brought my cat, Kit in a few weeks ago for a lump on her face. Kit ended up having to be put to sleep. My husband was a basket case. The staff, especially Dr. Dunn was so wonderful to him. They were so comforting and gave him as much time as he needed with her. Dr. Dunn also sent us a card last week. They are so caring and wonderful. We had Ms. Kit for 16 years and she was like our child. Thank you so much Meredith Place for everything. read more

Take the extra 30 minutes and go to Concord. What a horrible experience. We were placed in a room with our dog for 3 hours and forgotten about. Our dog was never assessed with other low acuity dogs taking priority. We left. When I called to complained I was interrupted and yelled at by Krystal, who called me Honey and said I was lucky my dog wasn't dying. Krystal would not give me the name or contact information for the practice manager other than Jen and the office number. Please take your dogs to people who will care and not be too stressed to do their job in a compassionate way. read more

!!!Please go somewhere else!!! If you MUST go here & the worst occurs please request an autopsy for the sake of accountability. My healthy 4 year old lab died within a day as a result of MVER's incompetence. He was lethargic, not eating/drinking, swollen neck. I was told from the smell of his breath it was an abscess in his throat... best case it'd rupture and he'd be 100% back to normal. They will prescribe antiobiotic/pain pills and do an xray. I asked how to give those meds if he can't eat, I was told to encourage soft food. I approved moving forward. After the xray I was told "good news its superficial!" Because of sedation not wearing off, they offered to keep him overnight but assured me he was alert "just milking it." What they did not disclose is that they administered *narcan* twice. This should have been a RED flag to review his chart. I picked him up, was told to give the pills and monitor for 24-48hrs. 24hrs later he was dying of horrific seizures in my arms. MVER told me "come in if you want or the Dr can call you later they're busy". Seizures are listed as level 1 critical in their own triage. I requested his records, this is what I found: 1. White blood cell was off the charts/high fever. He was potentially septic. MVER made it sound like he had a superficial, infected abscess. It was beyond that. They should have 100% given IV antibiotics. I only wish I had the lab results before approving his treatment. But, THEY should have known as the professionals. 2. They gave pills to a dog who was not eating/drinking as his only form of treatment. I questioned this, but it was conveyed as superficial. Come to find out, rule of thumb is do NOT prescribe oral meds to a dog that cannot eat. Pretty basic. 3. I've consulted multiple vets, based on the xray alone every single one of them told me I should have been referred to a specialist who could perform surgery in that area. 4. Radiology indicated I should have more tests, those were never disclosed to me from the Fri night MVER had the results to the Sun he passed. 5. They administered narcan and misled me on his condition. 6. Internal abscesses should actually NOT rupture. They should be drained or surgically removed as they can be... fatal. Yes. Fatal. 7. They offered to keep him overnight and still did not administer antibiotics, so his condition became worse in their care, rather than getting treatment. In hindsight, when I picked him up he was worse off than before. I thought it was the sedation, but in fact he was dying. I have to suffer the loss of my very best friend. I hope others do not. They failed him in every way. When I reached out to ask questions regarding his care MVER declined to answer and sent me to their liability insurance, as I'm sure they've been coached to do. But, this is really a reflection of their lack of compassion and ability to justify their medical decisions. No one should bring their loved ones to the ER just to have the medical providers fail them. Dogs should not die a day later, not when he stood a fighting chance had he received proper care, medication and surgery. The vet industry is not immune to a basic standard of care. When the worst occurs they will push cremation and remove any question around the results of their care. My advice: Go to a 24 hour facility, if you must go here request records/stay informed on EVERYTHING before approving treatment, if the worst occurs request an autopsy - a cause of death can hold responsible parties accountable. read more

THANK YOU. I brought my dog here where he was diagnosed with Lyme disease after he woke up not able to walk. The entire process starting with reception to the technician to the vet was amazing. Everyone was very friendly, very informative, and extremely reassuring which meant the world to me when I was worried beyond imagination about my dog. They were quick to get him on medication, were clear and upfront with prices and were able to diagnose and act swiftly (very relieving). I called with follow up questions and concerns about symptoms (which have mostly cleared up now) they were more than happy to answer all of my questions and were very prompt and professional. A+ you can count on this group and trust them with your loved animals. Thank you. read more

I can't say enough good things about Meredith Place Veterinarian Emergency. Our seven year old Portugese Water Dog, Kismet was not doing well. It was a Sunday, local vet was closed. We were relieved there was an Emergency Vet in Meredith. The staff was excellent! Dr Amanda Flagg was fantastic! I couldn't recommend them more, so happy to have an emergency Vet in Meredith, I can count on. read more

Highly professional, thorough, knowledgeable, accessible, gentle, kind, non-alarmist and generous/articulate communicators. I was surprised and amazed that each person - reception/vet assistants/vet were all at the same levels of these qualities. They are all clearly on the same page when it comes to values and priorities for their center. Awesome team! I loved that they asked great questions about the small details and wanted to hear what I had observed and knew about the whole picture. Wholistic care and detailed problem solving is an especially important value of mine for my animals. As the dog mom I felt valued and a part of the team which gave me confidence and trust in the diagnosis and the treatment plan because I felt heard. I have never been so well taken care of from soup to nuts! Well done! Sometimes I find that vet offices are too administrative and mechanical. I felt like MHVE is running a tight administrative ship while intentionally prioritizing what is best for the animal through small comforting considerations. I had an exceptional experience. I do not live in the area but I wish they were my regular vet! Great practice! read more

Do not hesitate to bring your beloved furry friend to the Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Doctor Dunn is amazing. She's thorough, confident, and was spot on with my pups diagnosis. She saw him through his immediate danger and then recommended a cardiologist. Appointments with a cardiologist are hard to come by but I found one and made an appointment a few weeks out. A couple of days later Dr. Dunn called saying another patient had to forgo their cardiologist appointment and would I be available to take the spot. Seriously, above and beyond. The cardiologist confirmed what Dr. Dunn suspected and recommended I continue with the medication Dr. Dunn had prescribed in addition to 2 other meds. I can't thank Dr. Dunn enough. She was precise, refreshingly honest; even though the prognosis was less than ideal, and most of all helpful. Her care and concern didn't fade away the moment I walked out the door. Heartfelt Thanks to Dr. Dunn and the staff at Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency Hospital, Laurie & Oliver read more

I brought my pregnant dog in after having been in a slow progressing labor all day. We hunkered down there to have her puppies. Being 4 hours since the first oxytocin shot, she had trouble birthing the last pup. The Dr. wouldn't give her the full dose of oxytocin, said she didn't think she needed it, and my girl still couldn't produce the pup. The Dr said she was just too tired and I said she needed that entire shot, especially when she now needed it the most! She tried to remove the pup by hand with no success and after wasting so much time, once the pup was born through c-section the pup grew to show neurological problems and also half her ear had been clipped off. read more

Our 7 year old dog, Tucker, hurt his leg badly enough he couldn't stand on it. We waited until Monday a.m. thinking that we wouldn't need to go to an emergency vet. However after calling many veterinarians, one 40 minutes away in Concord, we determined that no one had time to see us. Fortunately Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency was open even though it was during regular hours. Dr. Flagg and her staff diagnosed Tucker's knee injury and treated it in a reasonable period of time. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. Dr. Flagg spent extra time with us to ensure that the treatments would work well even though we were planning a long car trip, including Tucker, within the treatment period. We were very happy with their care. read more

We were visiting Gunstock from out of town, when my dog decided to tangle with a porcupine. We rushed him to Meredith and they were great, both with the dog and also with my panic. There was a bit of a wait due to another emergency happening at the same time, but they were super apologetic and the vet techs came in multiple times to check on us and give updates. Once we were seen, the entire process was really quick and they were so sweet with our dog. Dr. Flagg even followed up via e-mail a few days later to check how he was doing, and they sent our records to our primary vet, unprompted, within 48 hours. We hope never to need an emergency vet in this area again, but if we do we won't hesitate to come here. read more

Our normal vet was closed due to being a holiday so we thought we would try Meredith place since they could see our very sick cat with that day. They examined her,ran blood work and told us she was diabetic and should change her diet and she has a UTI which they gave medication for that, said she was overall fine and sent us on our way.Less than 12 hours later our cat died.We called them and told them they obviously misdiagnosed what her issue was and the Doctor responded by saying " thats they way it goes some times, said they do there best but dont always get it right". True as that may be its disgusting to hear that out of a vets mouth especially in such a uncompassionate way. I told her the least she could do is refund the fee I was charged since there incompetence led to the death of our cat and was told absolutely not,she told me they win some and they loose some but they always have to get paid.Stay away if you love your pets! read more

I had to bring my cat there last night for an extreme emergency. I had called ahead and I guess they were expecting us. When we arrived they took the cat cat to the back immediately, without asking administrative questions first. They cared about the cat. Kind, patient and caring...so thankful! On Labor Day weekend, we had a house full of guests and plans to go to a country fair. But that was cancelled when our girl pup started crying in pain. Our regular vet was closed, so we contacted MPVE. We were seen immediately and with Dr. Haydon's help we were able to bring her home with some meds and a special diet. What a relief. On March 20, 2014, I called and spoke to someone at the clinic concerning our Dachshund's newborn pup, which was still not nursing properly even from a bottle, already had three seizures, having trouble breathing, losing weight and was dying. Because the poor little guy was in such distress, barely alive and fighting to breathe, we thought the only humane thing to do would be to euthanize him. We were told that, to put down our 5 oz. pup in dire distress, we would have to pay $125.00. We could not afford this fee and were mortified to hear of the cost. We had already paid this facility $300 for services the previous evening to check the mother of the pup because she only delivered one pup, were charged $22.58 for an 8 ounce can of Esbilac puppy formula that doesn't cost more than $4.00 ANYWHERE else, and yet we would still be charged $125 for a tiny newborn pup to be put out of pain. We were going to take the pup's body home for burial. We simply wanted to stop his pain. We feel this charge was outrageous. Our regular vet charges only $65.00 even if they were to put down a huge dog! I thought all veterinarians were compassionate and would do anything for animals, but it appears that the policies of this clinic are all about the money first. It sickens me that I had to hold that pup for 6 hours watching him gasp for air until he died, because of their unscrupulous financial costs. read more
