I am a former student who had spent many years in their " lpn program ". I will say, the lpn program director and most of the lpn instructors are the most nasty, biased people that i have ever come across at a college or university. If they don't like even 1 thing about you, they will make it their absolute goal to kick you out of the program, regardless of your grades. You have to be a " teachers pet " in order to be in good graces and graduate with the hateful professors. And good luck if you have a different stance or political opinion other than theirs. They will not like you even for that. They like to make " excuses " as to why you get kicked out of the program. All in all, AVOID the LPN Nursing program here at ALL COSTS! I'd definitely go elsewhere like Pennwest or Gannon University if you don't want to waste years of your life going here for nothing to show all because they didn't like you from the beginning... read more

This is a great college. Known for their Archeology, English, Music and Art departments, this small liberal arts college gives you the most bang for your buck or so I would like to think, since this is where I spent 3 years of my life. Finally graduating with a BA in English and a concentration in creative writing...Whoot! Let me just say we know how to work hard and have fun! Even though we're not a Big Ten school, our hockey, lacrosse, and soccer teams can teach you a new thing or two. The Laker is where it's at with their salads, especially the one with fries and gobs of cheese...oh so good! The housing, let's not forget about the housing. Only Freshmen live in dorms. Once you reach Sophomore status and above you get to live in the apartments, which is tons cooler. Plus, there's State Street with great bars, dance clubs, and other festivities. The best part though, is that Mercyhurst has a drunk bus that will take you down there and bring you back, as long as you catch it by 3am! However, the pride and joy of my college experience, was being the editor in chief of our literary magazine, Lumen, my senior year. read more

I drove in from Buffalo to see the Lakers play hockey. The drive was very relaxing. It took about 1hr and 40 min. The ice rink is towards the back of the school, right near the football field. Go left after the main gate and follow the signs. Free parking shares a lot with the football field and can fill up fast. The arena is about a 50' walk from the nearest handicap spot. They don't have a ticket office, I was able to get tickets set aside through a round about way. I called the only number I could find on their website (general information), and was transferred to the Hockey office. That number was actually the head coach. I left a message and he called back the next day with a number for the person who set the tickets aside at their will call desk. Its a small operation but well worth the effort. Tickets were $10 ea and $5 for seniors. The school is gorgeous. Small. Rustic. Beautiful. I arrived early enough to take a short 20 min walk around campus. I recommend that if the weather is cooperating. The ice rink seats 1500. Seating is split between bleacher seating on 1 side and chair back behind the far goal. The arena feels really warm inside. I'm dressed for a hockey game and for once I'm not feeling the coldness of the ice. Unlike the Harbor Center or some other D1 hockey arenas I've visited. Seating is general admission and the games do fill up. Come early for parking and good seats. read more

I visited my sister for her graduation from Mercyhurst, and let me just say that this school is probably one of the few 5 star deserving establishments in Erie PA (it is very possibly the city that time forgot). The campus is beautiful and green- the buildings are Gothic style and so well taken care of. If you find yourself in Erie - for lord knows what reason - the college is definitely worth a drive by! read more

Do you want to feel like you are walking in a fairyland? Then visit Mercyhurst in summer time or christmas time or anytime for that matter. This place makes me happy just by looking at the old buildings and walking around. It is so gorgeous! People working there are very nice as well. I hear a lot of attention is paid to teaching by faculty, so it is definitely the best place to go to school. Class size is small, professors know who you are. I truly love this place. read more

Mercyhurst has recently decided to force athletes to live on campus as opposed to allowing students to live off campus to save on housing costs. While claiming beneficial studies without citing them specifically, they have admitted in an email that they plan to force the athletes, the students who are the most invested in the university, to live on campus so that the additional revenue will allow them to build more on-campus housing. They admit that eventually all students will be forced to live on-campus. This is terribly deceptive and unfair. This is an expensive school with very expensive room and board. The reason students live off campus is primarily about reducing costs. Instead of squeezing the athletes to further their real estate development plans, they should focus on LOWERING the cost of on-campus housing. Then they will have no problem with students wanting to stay on campus. As a further insult, no notification was sent to the parents, who for the most part are paying the room and board. I attended Mercyhurst for Undergrad and Grad school. The outside appearance of the campus is amazing, the buildings look beautiful and the law is well maintained. However, the interior of most buildings is disgraceful. The student recreation center is not well maintained at all, there is mold growing on the walls of the student rec gym and this area is prone to flooding since the roof leaks so badly. The student apartments are also of great concern, many of them have heating issues and also have copious amounts of mold growing on the walls that the school neglects to take care of (they just paint over top of the mold). Also, there is no pool on campus so the poor women's and men's polo team have to travel to Northeast Campus (which takes at least 30 minutes to get to) every day they have practice. The school really needs to put its money to good use and repair the facilities they have. Additionally, signing up for classes and fixing mess ups with your schedule or student bill is absurdly difficult here. It took me 4 months to straighten out one of my student bills, they charged me for a class I never took. read more
