I was sent by the VA to Mercy for a bone scan for cancer. While visiting with the oncologist afterwards he stated the surgery I had done on my lung at Mayo (wedge section) that they should have taken my whole upper left lobe! How very unprofessional this was! Mayo vs Mercy, who would you believe or trust? When I told my Mayo pulmonary team, they said maybe ten years ago but not in today's medical world. When they called me for a review of my care I stated you don't want to hear what I have to say. My husband arrived just before 11 am, chief complaint; chest pain, radiating down left arm to his hand, stabbing pain in chest, pain up his neck with a warm sensation, light headed, and dizzy, bp 150/100. They did an EKG, but staff put the tabs on his left elbow (incorrect location), some 4 hours later, they just did a secondary EKG BECAUSE his chest started hurting so bad walking to acute room (finally). they have given no aspirin, nothing. Took blood, but seen no doctor, and registration has come in to see him before even a doctor has seen him. Quality of care: poor Type or care; unknown. In 2023 there was a spot on my husband's lungs. They did a PET scan and came back and said that it lit up in his colon lungs and thyroid. He was told he needed biopsies on all three spots. This was in February and they told us they couldn't get us in for his biopsies until August. What is wrong with the healthcare systems in Springfield, Missouri MERCY and Cox? How can a doctor tell you that you could have cancer But you have to wait six months to find out. Well I wasn't going to let that happen after many fights and arguments with them. Took my mom to Dr. Zhai because I knew she was sick. Dr. Zhai dismissed us. Almost 6 months later I finally got Zhai to do the MRI I had been requesting for my mom. Zhai called 9am the next day to tell me that my mom had Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. She was very frustrated having to spell it for me. Mom was gone in less than 6 months after. Definitely wouldn't trust her with a brain dead slug. My mom had also worked at Mercy for decades and no one "noticed" anything wrong with her. read more

If it was possible to give them a ZERO I absolutely would, after passing out at work on July 9th, 2023, I was brought here by ambulance and put in a wheelchair still very disoriented and not sure if I was coming or going thank God my husband followed behind the ambulance and was able to answer questions for them. They did vitals right away and checked my heart to make sure it was beating properly way to go nurses, I Spent 16.5 hours here waiting in the ER, it must have been 2* in the damn place because everyone was freezing I was so cold I was seriously turning blue (should have taken a picture of my lips & fingers) it was no joke, we were all under 4-5 blankets and that wasn't enough. If the cold wasn't bad enough you had people with puke buckets in their hands okay no biggy you're in a hospital that's expected right?? So then why are they not using them and using the floors instead? Any answers? Ya, we couldn't figure that out either. I was so disgusted I almost threw up myself, my husband went out and told the nurses what was going on in the side room they had us in, and her reply to him was "We don't have housekeeping this late, there is nothing we can do" when he told me this I said if I don't see a doctor within the next half here we are walking the hell out of here and going to the other hospital later today. Literally, 22 minutes later I was headed to the nurse's station so they could take my IV out and I could leave when they called me back to meet with the doctor to be told are y'all ready for this crap...EAT MORE SALT AND SUGAR AND DRINK MORE WATER!!! My primary doc about came out of his skin when we told him this considering I drink about 190L of water a day already they have since cut back my water intake but guys don't waste your time with Mercy... go the extra 3 minutes to COX the quality of care far surpasses anything you will receive at Mercy's hands down and I know I ended up there 3 days after this incident and spent most of July in Cox. went to my primary doctor Missouri. They said I needed to have a sleep study and that it had been ordered. I waited a week and hadn't heard anything so I called They said it would be 2 to 3 weeks it's been over three weeks so I messaged them. They told me to contact the sleep study place. They would have to figure it out. I called them they don't even have an order so my PCP has flat lied. and doctors do not care about their It's all the signs that they care about. Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO has lost their minds in my opinion. They have locked all of my family and myself from seeing my grandmother at all. No communication, no updates, don't even know if she is alive or dead. Blocked me from her online records ( my existing account was shut down when I started asking a lot of questions). Moved her somewhere only to move her back. I am her DPOA and she has bad dementia/ Alzheimer's and is bedridden. No one will answer me about anything and threaten me when I start asking questions ( the threat is to trespass me from the property for good ). There has been no other court filings for anything that would stop me and my family from seeing her. I filed a missing person report and when the police called Mercy they told them "They aren't going to tell them anything". WTH! I have filed a report with the Bureau of Hospital Standards but their investigations take weeks if not longer. In the meantime they are doing whatever they want to a beloved family member. Can't find a attorney that will take the case due to the speed of how this is all happening. I have been a patient repeatedly over the last 5 years. Sometimes spending as long as 90 days in the hospital. One thing I have noticed over time is the nurses have become smart ass, snotty little attitude children. And I'm talking mostly about their manner on the intercom. You know, when you push the button to talk to the nurses station? They hang up on you while you're still talking, they don't say please or thank you, or even goodbye. I find it disrespectful, rude, and demeaning to the entire staff. When people are in the hospital they're obviously having a bad time in their life. The last thing they need is to be treated with a snotty attitude, and disrespected. These kids who work here need to be taught manners. Makes me wonder what kind of parents they have. Where to start. So I spent all day waiting to be seen. I just got over covid(little back story, last time I had covid I was vented and lung was removed) now that's said. I'm sick and a dog and the pain in my abdomen feels like someone is just stabbing me over and over with a large knife. I needed pain management because I get chronic pancreatitis. I go to 6B until not name the nurse. When she gets me in there I'm talking to the doctor and he refers to Covid. The nurse begins freaking out and yelling at me How dare I not wear a mask. The Er tested me it's over. She kept on saying she didn't want to work with me and she grabbed my IV and ripped it from my arm. Then I run from the floor disturbed blood going everywhere and I'm crying. I call their floor and they tell me they ama' ed me. I get the House nurse Tony. Nice man. Does a great job to get me another bed. I went to that room and I again get treated like a dog. My fiancé is livid and doesn't understand why people are so terrible. If I could rate Tony he's a 5. Ignored forgotten put on the back burner. I came into the ER due to pregnancy complications. I was bypassed for several hours. I explained my pain level which I guess did not matter, I was pushed aside for nonemergency people that came in hrs after myself. I had an anxiety attack in the lobby due to all the fear and stress I was under and when I asked after 2 hrs of waiting in extreme pain whnr I would be seen and I was basically told I don't know wait!! I am a high risk pregnancy, I've suffered 4 miscarriage and have alot of anxiety about this pregnancy. I felt so uncared for and unsupported. Then there was a young man named Kameron, he actually stepped up and provided me with exactly what I needed. He heard me and listened and acted!! He came me with his attention and care. What a great young man! Yet still I sit here 3 hrs later waiting for some miracle that I get a turn and my baby is ok after the extreme unnecessary wait. There are maybe 10 people here now none here before me yet still they get called first. Wow hope the baby is OK since they don't seem to care. I am absolutely humbled by the wonderful women who work at the Mercy Breast Center. I was treated with the utmost respect, courtesy, kindness and care. Every single person I encountered, from the ladies at the registration area to the mammogram technicians, the nurses, the schedulers, the ultrasound techs, the surgical nurses and the doctors, they were all absolutely amazing. They were patient, thorough, understanding and warm. I had some issues/concerns and had to go several times for more testing, etc. - each time everyone was amazing. I thank God I received news that nothing was wrong but had my results gone a different way, I know in my heart that I would have received the best possible care from the team at Mercy. God bless all the wonderful women who took such good care of me. Your kindness and professionalism is astounding. Keep up the good work. This has been the worst experience in a ER that I HAVE EVER HAD! I have been setting here With my wife for 12 hours now. She was told that they would not take her at ambulatory care because her lips and hands were blue and her skin was cold and Clammy. Yet now we're here her symptoms are not bad enough to be seen any sooner. When asked for a time frame we are told we don't know. That doesn't sound very professional to me. I am in the automotive business and if I treated my customers that way I would be out of business in a very short time. Finally at around 10:15 PM we both decided enough is enough and walked with my wife still weak and somewhat disoriented. They kicked her out of the ER at 4am, with no plan for her safety or transportation. She repeatedly told them she had no friends or family in town. They didn't care. it was -2 degrees out. she was recovering from a concussion, and they couldn't have cared less about her life. When I was growing up in Springfield the name of this hospital was actually St. John's Hospital. On Saturday morning I received a very early call informing that one of my loved ones had been rushed by ambulance to the hospital. I took a quick power nap, packed some clothes and left Texas headed to Springfield. I sincerely appreciate 2 of the nurses working on the 3rd floor. Jules and Jen G had excellent bedside manner and gave my patient good care and showed concern for his situation. When he was moved to the 6th floor, his nurse, Joni was somewhat reserved with me but in my presence she was caring towards my patient. And I was present at that hospital every single day that I was in Springfield. Some improvements they can make here are providing menus to patients to select their meal choices. Another improvement is move more quickly to a patient's room who has requested assistance to use the restroom and stop staring at the computer screen in the nurses station. Had to goto the ER the morning before flying home was in extremely bad pain had kidney stone. We canceled our flight and went to the hospital everyone was really nice my wife was able to stay with me until they took me back. She waited for a while I made a reservation at a hotel and told her to go rest there until I or the hospital called her. The ED ( DONT know who or why the ER name was changed to ED?) Dr. was excellent he came in I told him the issues I was having and that I get them often. He ordered some pain meds and a CT scan this was at 0630 around 0800 he came in told me I had a 7mm stone he said he could give me lots of meds to make my fight but I told him I already missed the flight to just get it out of me. He said he already had a urologist coming in and would have him stop in and talk to me, 0830 the urologist came in he asked what I wanted to do I said get it out he just wanted to put a stint in me and let my dr here in MD take the stone out so at 0930 I had a COVID teat and at 1200 I was in the OR being put to sleep. Was back in recovery around 1400 I woke and the nurse said my wife was on her way to get me. They let her come back when she arrived we were back in the hotel by 1700 and we had dinner. Made flight reservations and flew home the next morning. All of the nurses took good care of me I would go back there if ever I needed to. read more

There was a nurse who worked the night shift on the 4th floor on 26 Septembet 2022 who refused to give insulin to a diabetes patient who's blood sugar had risen to 315. Would not acknowledge that a mistake had been made and kept insisting that because "the doctor" had not ordered it was unwilling to fix the problem. She is hateful and belligerent and does not understand that some diabetics take more than one type of insulin. I drove from Mercy to Nixa at 1AM to get Lantus insulin to keep my wife from going into a diabetic coma. This nurse's behavior clearly borders on criminal neglect. She refused to give her name. I am really impressed with the care received from my physician, the billing department is deployable. They make harassing telephone calls, even without mailing bills. Recently they have started saying things like this was due in March. With the intent of making you the customer feel like we are negligent. I am a person that is extremely responsible in paying for bills received. I am not negligent. While traveling on vacation by car from Phoenix to Branson Missouri, we stopped in Springfield Missouri for an overnight stay. During that night, my husband experienced severe lower abdominal pain that caused us to need an emergency room visit. We were directed by the hotel staff to Mercy Hospital. it is never pleasant to visit an ER but when you were out of town and you don't know what to expect, it is daunting. Unfortunately, due to the short staffed situation, we waited for seven hours in the ER for my husband to be seen along with many other patients. Because of that wait, it is the only reason that I could not give a five star review to Mercy Hospital, and we learned that there is a staff shortage at the hospital ER, which was the primary reason for the delay. That in itself is a sad commentary for the state that our country is currently in. But, Even thru the wait in ER, the staff remained pleasant, calm and sympathetic. They just couldn't change a bad situation. From the moment we did see a doctor until we left the hospital two days later I have nothing but praise for the care, the accommodations, and the treatment that my husband received for what turned out to be a kidney stone that had to be removed. From the two hospitalists, the physicians assistant, the two surgeons, and the technicians, nurses and aids, and even the maintenance folks, we were treated with the upmost respect and with kindness and compassion. No one made us feel anything less than very welcomed, and very well cared for. They allowed me to stay with my husband in the room for the two nights that he was admitted. That in itself was comforting for me. The procedure was performed and we were again on our way. I cannot say enough about how impressed we were with the hospital and its staff at Mercy. Thank you for making a very unpleasant situation tolerable, and only slightly less than a good memory. I recommend Mercy Hospital. Thank you for showing that you care about what you do. I was just very disappointed) I am currently pregnant. I came in with bleeding and pain and waited 5 hours with nothing to show for it except ruined pants. Wasn't even properly checked in! I was told I could sit outside and someone would come for me- as I am high risk and did not want to wait in their horribly overcrowded waiting room/lobby! However, no one ever did. When my fiance went in to ask when we should expect to hear anything, they informed him that they did not see this as a true medical emergency so I was to wait for another 3+ hours. I feel so bad for these nurses and hospital staff during this time- especially when I noticed a patient screaming outside of the hospital threatening to injure people walking in. However, when my child's life is at risk, please at least get me on track to seeing ANYONE before 5 hours!! I was absolutely terrified. Coming from Phoenix, AZ- this was the worst hospital experience I've had. And that is truly saying something. We ended up driving to Cox North. I was seen immediately, examined, put on IV, and rushed to an ultrasound. All within the first hour n a half. I stayed there a total of 3 hours and went home with all the information in the world. UPDATE: I went here two days ago with excruciating back pain (horrible enough to make my poor fiance listen to me scream in agony for almost 4 hours) & I could not breathe properly. This quickly turned into a panic attack. My first round of nurses/the initial doctor was wonderful. Understood my anxiety, tried to talk through everything as calmly as possible, made sure I knew they were trying to figure out what was happening. Unfortunately, during shift change, I received a new doctor. Traci Johnson. Solely based on this woman, I am terrified to give birth here. Not only did she invalidate my pain/feelings, she talked down on my mental disorders, and insinuated that I was faking my pain. It was very obvious she did not even glance at my file. So, to challenge her view point, I asked "Well what could cause this intense amount of pain?" She responded with a thick attitude "I don't KNOW, I wasn't here until NOW" My fiance and I gave each other a look and immediately requested discharge papers, even though I PROBABLY should have stayed. I am still currently in pain, bed ridden, and unable to take a full breath. However, as I was in tears and on the verge of my 4th panic attack of the evening, I could not stand the idea of having that woman be in charge of my care, even temporarily. My entire family is in the medical field- and once I told them about this experience, they all agreed she needs retraining and/or to be reported to the board. I am currently awaiting a phone call from Mercy to discuss further. Upon arriving home, results from my ultrasound came back. I have a 5mm kidney stone that Dr Traci Johnson DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO TELL ME ABOUT. I was not sent home with any medication to help it pass, nor any medication for pain. I am completely terrified to give birth here. Two bad experiences and I don't know what to do. This is the only hospital my insurance covers- so I'm hoping if I must go in again that someone will treat me like a person and not just an incubator. read more

I would have given 5 stars, but the ER is terribly slow and we have had a couple not so good staff members. All in all, the experiences I have encountered over the last month have been very nice. The hospital offers a hospitality room, shower, and meal pass if you are from out of town and staying with a patient. Anytime we did have an issue with staff, patient advocate came right to us to address the issue, and we never had any problems after that. I am very please with the doctors and staff, all the way from housekeeping, security, nurses, and office staff. Cafateria food isn't too awful, it has a GREAT salad bar! Mercy Mocha is a tasty little coffee shoppe inside the hospital with affordable prices. I recommend the Wildberry Lemonade! The hospital is clean and easy to navigate. Let me start by saying Covid unit at Mercy Hospital 4 B the nurses are top notch!! Heather and Mel are both amazing! I can't say enough about the fantastic care they gave my husband. Heather especially is a rock star. Unfortunately, I have to express my disappointment in the only hospice choice Mercy gave me, Integrity Home Care and Hospice. Their hospice was the ONLY option for us as my husband was passing away from Covid at Mercy Hospital. I was told "if" I wanted hospice in Mercy Hospital they were contracted with only Integrity Hospice and that is who I "had" to have. THEY ARE THE WORST!!!! Lack of compassion at very difficult time. The worst part was as my husband laid close to death the Integrity lady comes in says I have to step out of his room to sign the paperwork. What!!! Yep.. that's right. I had to leave my dying husband's side to sign her paperwork. Where was she an hour before? Let me tell you, no where to be found! All in all, I have to say... SHAME on you Mercy, for giving me no options to choose my Hospice company and forcing me to use the WORSE company because that is who YOU signed a contract with. read more

Normally I would rate it better but I had surgery in April I was not satisfied with the PCA or CNA taking care of me. She never once asked me if I wanted anything to eat or never brought me anything despite me asking several times. I myself is a CNA and the lack care from the Aides was so wrong. My husband and I arrived at the emergency room at Mercy Hospital yesterday morning. He presented with symptoms of a headache and weakness on the right side of his body. They immediately stroke activated him, and took him for a CT scan. Back in the room, they stated that there were no blockages on the CT scan and proceeded to treat him for what they called complex migraine syndrome. That included an IV of Benadryl, Compazine, sodium chloride, and magnesium. After starting that IV, and taking blood, the doctor finally came in. The doctor stated that they would be admitting him because they saw in the CT scan what looked to be a small aneurysm in the right ICA. The first nurse that took his blood told me that I would not need to retrieve his prescription medication from home, because they would be administered at the hospital. My husband went to sleep, and his heart monitor started beeping constantly because he has a naturally low resting heart rate of about 40. So if it would drop to 39, it would beep constantly. I wanted him to sleep and not be stressed out by the loud beeping, so I pushed the call button and ask for someone to adjust it accordingly. I was told someone would come in and do that. Two hours went by and no one came in. At that point I went into the hallway and flagged down an EMT who said he would get a nurse to come in and take care of it. Another hour went by and no one came in the room. At that point, I pushed the power button on the monitor thinking that would get someone in there quickly. Two more hours and a new nurse finally came in the room. (Maci) I explain to her what was going on, and she apologized that we had been neglected. I told her that he was overdue for his prescription medications and she proceeds to tell me that she doesn't have any orders for his medication. I told her that the first nurse said I didn't need to get his meds from home and she tells me that I do in fact need to get them because she was not getting a response from his doctor. (Norella) So I told her I was gonna go home and do that now and that I would give him his meds. She said OK and she would call me if they moved him upstairs while I was gone. I get back to the hospital and he is still in the emergency room, so I gave him his meds and he goes back to sleep. Several hours go by and it's almost 10 PM at this point. I realize that he's overdue for his hospital meds according to his chart on MyMercy. So I go into the hallway and there's no one around but another EMT and he said he would find his nurse. A new nurse comes in,(Kelsey) and I explained to her that he's overdue for his hospital meds and that we have not talked to anyone in hours and that he should've been moved upstairs by now. She says that there are no beds upstairs. I asked her about his hospital medication and explain to her that I've already given him his prescription meds. She gets very upset and says that I should not have given him his meds. I explain to her that the other nurse told me to give him his meds. I then ask her what kind of timeframe are we looking at for my husband moving to her bed upstairs and she proceeds to be very rude and tell me that they have other patients that are having actual heart attacks that are much more important than my husband. At that point my husband becomes upset and says he just wants to leave. Understandably so, as he was getting zero care in the emergency room. She then sends in a new doctor,(Steen) who also starts to reprimand me for giving him his meds... Even though I was told to do so by another nurse. He also says that they are able to see the heart monitor from the desk outside. However, I turned the heart monitor off. It was no longer even taking his blood pressure. And no one noticed. For hours. No one noticed in fact until the nurse named Macy came in and I told her that I had turned it off. At that point, my husband is still insisting on leaving, Because there is literally nothing happening for him there. He could've died, and no one would've even known for hours unless I had been there. Never in my 50 years have I seen such horrible treatment of a patient at Mercy Hospital. I was shocked at the brazen request, when they spend millions of dollars on buildings. They even have special events for "Free" help in making out your living will & encouraging you to leave your entire estate to Mercy Hospital. What is going in with this place? read more
