Owner is very nice, yet very chatty and he charges by the hour. We hired him for various projects. More than half we had to have redone by someone else.
We scheduled one project with him and he completely forgot to show up. The next time he was scheduled, he cancelled at the last minute.
The largest project was for somthing he measured for in advance. Came back, started the project and realized the space was not big enough so he had to improvise. Making the project smaller than anticipated. Using less material. Not to mention the work he ended up doing, looked nothing like the photo he provided. He grossly over charged for this project. And he asked to be paid in cash, which was interesting. When I went to pay him, I seriously thought he'd tell me to deduct something knowing that it didn't go as planned and was less work. But nope, he asked for the full amount. He even had the nerve to say he charged more because he had to carry things down the steps. Yet my teenagers helped carry almost all of it down the steps.
The last time he was here, he told me what we owed for the last few projects he had done (on top of the large project) - which I kept track of the time myself. Apparently, he had different math and charged more than expected. Start your stopwatch if you use him. And ask for everything in writing. If we could post a photo - we would. He hung a laundry rack in our laundry room that fell off the wall. Turns out - he put the track on upside down. No surprise there. Lastly, he berated me via text when we let him know we would no longer be using him. He pretty much thought it was absurd to expect a reply to text over a weekend. Our new handyman actually works weekend, and always replies to texts on the same day. No matter if it's a weekend or not.
Mercer is very professional, very polite. But we have since found a guy that does the job right the first time, and is a LOT less expensive, and far more reliable. read more
