I came here as a little girl probably 18 or 19years ago with my school and it was engrained in me. I just took my 4 year old son and husband and we had the time of our lives. Our tour guide was the coolest cat and he was so knowledgeable on the caverns he answered every single one of our questions. Not only did we get to see and explore more than we thought, our guide was so funny and made us feel safe the whole time. We wanted to go again as soon as we finished. Highly recommend during the rainy/snowy season. The water dripping down made it absolutely surreal! Cannot wait to come back asap. Thank you so much for continuing to keep this place open, we know it's hard work and with teary eyes, this day healed a part of us (possibly the little kid in us) we didn't know needed it. Thank you!

This was amazing. I never thought I'd go into a cave..haha. The tour guy was fun and knowledgeable. He made our tour so great. I would recommend this tour.

I went with my husband and 3 children. We got there pretty early, shortly after 10am and there was only one other person doing the cave tour with us. Ren took us in and gave us an awesome tour. Really punny recommend!

Visited Mercer Caverns on a warm summer day. It's a trek in you're coming out from the East Bay but a good way to beat the heat. Tours weren't very crowded and we had a funny and engaging tour guide. I liked that there was a good amount of walking through narrow passages and it felt like a mini (very mini) guided hike. They had a nice covered waiting area outside and a pretty good gift shop. Made this a stop en route to a few other gold country adventures and had a blast. It's my second favorite out of the 4 caverns I toured this past summer.

This was perfect for my little family of kiddos, 4 and 12. We got there and bought tickets for the next tour which was an hour or so. So we drove downtown to Main St. for a quick walk around. Grabbed some coffee and candy to them head back. My 4 year old was a bit nervous but once our guide mentioned one of the sides looked like a dino fossil he was sold. There were two staircases that were really steep but he did a great job. WEAR TENNIS SHOES!

Amazing tour provided by Marshall today. Super educational and answered all questions from our group throughly. Highly recommend this experience if you're in the area! Takes around 45 minutes, steep stairs and some narrow. My cousin is about 6 ft tall and definitely had to duck to make it through but he made it!

This is one of several limestone caves or caverns open to the public in this portion of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Gold Country, an an area otherwise mostly consisting of granite rather than limestone. It is an extensive series of caverns with trails and stairs up and down. One must visit through a tour, as is normal in such places. The tour takes close to an hour and we had a very nice time with an excellent tour guide, even though there was a fairly large group at the time. The history explained o the tour is interesting. This one is very different from the nearby Moaning Cavern (or Moaning Cave as I always remember it being called when I was a kid). That one is essentially one giant cave with spiral steps down. This is a series of caverns and caves with trails and stairs up and down in various parts, see even if you've seen one, the other is interesting. I can't compare to the others caves around since I haven't been to any of those since I was a kid an do not remember details yet. I hope to back get to them again eventually. There is a gift shop, of course, plus toilets, and there is also a gold panning thing for kids.

Caverns are so interesting. I took my 4 year old and with lots of whining and crying he made it through the whole adventure. I was so proud of him as in the beginning he was fearful and at the end he was so proud of himself for climbing all the stairs. So much patience from the tour guide as well as all the other guests who were with us on our journey. It was a great experience and I was so happy he got to experience his first cavern experience here.

What a cool experience. Got there for the 10:00 am tour, and I was the only guest. The walk to…read morethe cave is only about five minutes, but there's no shade so the earlier the better as the temps heat up. Inside the cave is about 50°. I have no issues with claustrophobia, but if you do there is one tight squeeze that might be a problem. Cash, my tour guide, turned off the lights (after asking my permission) and we experienced total darkness for maybe thirty seconds. It felt like two hours, and I hated it , but still neat and recommend trying if offered. Use the hand rails. They are there for your safety.

We were the only ones that signed up for the earliest tour that day and were lucky to have a private tour. The tour has informative history about the caverns with landmarks along the way. The most interesting thing we didn't know about is they have caving adventure tours where you shimny through holes and narrow spaces with a guide but our kids aren't old enough to partake. This was the first show cave in California and townspeople lived in them during harsh winters in the 1800s. There was a bar inside and a church and nails were even given to people to carve on the walls. Because of this there are signs of harm everywhere with soot, broken formations, and dirty coloration from human hand oils and even champagne poured on a rock formation. The caverns are huge and beautiful with some jaw-dropoing rooms. The walking tour is very safe though we loved the slight danger and claustrophobic feel of the Mercer Caverns. When you leave the shop has some cool historical items pulled from the caves on display like glass bottles, etc .. that are worth checking out.

I was trying to…read moreplan a girls day out, and definitely wanted to do some wine tasting but didn't really want to be a Designated driver. I found Courtwood by searching online, and I'm SO happy I found Chris @Courtwood! I was a little bummed I didn't find any available tours on their website, so I reached out via email. Chris promptly sent a reply with pricing, details, and that it would be quite packed in Murphy's, so she would take us on a private tour around the outlying wineries (good call, none of the wineries were too packed and we had a lot of "private time" at each vineyard). Chris picked us up right out front of our hotel right on time, had a smile and made sure she knew who the bride was and made her feel extra special! We stopped at Twisted Oak, Chatom, Ironstone (for lunch), and Aryael Vieux (TOP FAVE!! I'll be reviewing these wineries soon). Chris took care of everything, all we had to worry about was sipping wine and having a wonderful and relaxing time. Hanging out with Chris was like having another friend just along for the ride! We picked up a loaf of fresh bread at one of the wineries, and mentioned that we wanted to get some butter later on, Chris told us she needed to pick something up too and that we could come with her! I can't say enough good things, they even include a slideshow of your trip (chris takes photos throughout the tour) and email it to you promptly after your tour. If you are in the area, I would definitely come here and take a tour with Courtwood,

I was…read moregiven the task of setting up a wine tasting tour in the Murphy's area for a bachelorette group of 9 people. We stayed in Angel's Camp in a friend's cabin, and being unfamiliar with the area, I completely put my trust in Chris to arrange everything for us. She exceeded my expectations (and made me look like I had done a lot more than I had!) She asked a lot of questions about our group and the types of wines we liked so that she could tailor the tour very specifically. Preferring the boutique wineries to the large scale Ironstone types, Chris took us to six different wineries that ranged significantly from Twisted Oak, to Prospect 772, to Aerial Vieux. As a large group Chris coordinated with Kristen, who also leads tours in the area to caravan us around in their large air conditioned vans. It seemed like she had personal relationships with the various winemakers and their staff and was able to get us some kind of behind the scenes cave tour/vineyard tour/private tasting room access everywhere we went. I have to say the best thing about the day was the lunch. Chris set it up on a long table outside Chatom winery and it literally looked like something straight out of Sunset Magazine. She brought local cheese and interesting dips, and the salads were presented in ball mason jars. It really was so well done, I think Chris might have a future in putting on lunches in addition to taking tours! After the tasting, Chris and Kristen took us into Murphy's, waited for us while we had dinner, and then took us all the way back to Angels Camp. I highly recommend Courtwood for small and large tours alike. Chris was just wonderful!

This made some of the undrinkable. Others were somewhat warm cloyingly sweet as to be unpleasant. Overall, though both of us are fans of boba tea- we would suggest a different vendor or more training for the staff preparing the samples. Roughly half of the flavors were not good at all. Additionally, they listed "boozy" flavors on the menu but never said anything about how to get those or whether they were included. Second problem- we preordered dumplings as did apparently a LOT of people. There were no dumplings on the train, only rice bowls. Furthermore- the waitress didn't know what we were talking about when we mentioned having preordered food. At least half of the tables in our car had preordered dumplings and were very disappointed. There was no information on how to obtain a refund if we didn't want the substitute of a rice bowl. About halfway through our trip, the train lost power which included lights, air conditioning, and the ability to flush toilets. Power stayed off with no explanation for more than 15 minutes, causing the car to become very warm and stuffy. Overall, this excursion suffered from lack of communication, lack of staff training, lack of preparation on the part of the organizers. Given the cost, I would not recommend this.
