Apparently, this office doesn't recognize what an "appointment" means. I couldn't help but think of that one Seinfeld episode. I took time off from my job, only to be seen 70 minutes late, then to be put in the room and wait an additional 10-15 minutes. Only to hear the doctor speak for 5 minutes, write a script, and try to push the C19 & Flu vaccine. No thank you. Upon being seen, you immediately wanted my copay. You said it's $30. In which, prior to the new year, I only paid $15. You asked if this was a new card or an old card because your computer showed $15. I knew exactly what you were getting at. You wanted to make sure that I didn't owe for past office staff errors. Let me be clear, patients aren't responsible for financial errors made by the office staff. This would never hold up in court. It doesn't matter which field you are in. Ultimately, it falls back on the employer, to which, he/she would fire the employee for making such a mistake. You also handed me an updated "fees" policy to which you must sign. No patient wants to be obligated to pay out-of-pocket for something that isn't covered. Only to find out after you have the "service" done. You should have a list of everything that isn't covered based on the insurance that you accept. Make your policies transparent. And, BTW, the mask mandate is for Health Care Officials/Workers ONLY. Not the patients. People with underlying conditions, like Asthma, shouldn't be wearing a mask. Otherwise, you're on grounds to be sued. This was stated in the original NJ executive order, in which the updated EO's referenced. The EO's have always been 5-6 pages long but no one ever reads them. They only do what their told.

My visit with Dr. Duch was bizarre and upsetting. He was very rushed when he came in. He was…read moreliterally red-faced and seemed angry or agitated. It seemed like something else was going on - if not, he was assuming things about me and my appointment that I was not privy to. He rushed me at every turn as I tried to explain my symptoms. He kept interrupting me, scoffing and rolling his eyes - to the extent that I at one point stopped talking and pointed out the eye-rolling. It clearly did not land for him that I was pointing out his expressions of literal contempt. As I said, it was all bizarre; I wish I had just walked out - but the visit was so short, he probably wouldn't have noticed that, either. When I described my symptoms and used terms a previous doctor had used, he again started the scoffing and eye rolling and mumbled that I was "self diagnosing again." I was literally describing symptoms, not saying "I clearly have _____" -- because I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. I understand that he did not agree with my previous MDs and that's all well and good, but you don't belittle a patient for reporting. That's the most basic principle of patient care. He said something along the lines of "Well we are not going to figure this out today," again sounding annoyed - I was not expecting anything definitive and was literally there to get an informed opinion about ongoing symptoms. He kept assuming things about me that I was neither asking nor assuming. He expressed overt contempt via his tone and body language throughout this very brief visit and made it clear he was in a hurry to be somewhere else. I literally glanced at my phone before and after the visit, and I was in and out within 10 minutes: in my field, that would not count as the "long discussion" he of course put in my visit note (I presume so he could up-charge the visit, which was almost $800). Maybe he's good with a scalpel and hammer - bedside manner and basic communication skills, he is not. I would question his diagnostic skills, given how he handled our discussion.

Jessica Keen was great in finding a thyroid tumor but the next step was strange. I was scheduled…read morethen to meet with the doctor who I assumed would be able to do the surgery. But was not told until after I was already checked in, by the doctor himself, that he no longer does thyroid surgery. Nor does any one else in the practice. So instead of telling me to go to a doctor who could help me earlier soonest, I have now wasted weeks on what is potentially a cancer diagnosis (won't know until it comes out). I was also then given two names of people that could do the surgery, both of whom were either not taking new patients or could not see me for at least eight weeks. Please do not go to this practice if you are seeking assistance with your thyroid. This practice may be great for other things but it appears that it does not include working with the thyroid.

Completely disgusting and appalled by what my wife experienced with Dr. Sass - please read about…read moreher experience with him: For those of you who are frustrated with the US healthcare system, and my fellow cancer fighting / mental illness fighting friends, this actually happened to me today. I've never felt so humiliated/angry/frustrated with a doctor. Since I have moved, I was trying to find a new primary care doctor nearby. Due to insurance issues (don't get me started on that), I need a new psychiatrist and meanwhile needed my psych meds refilled from a primary doc. My old primary doc in Philadelphia always did that with no issue. Also had a few minor health concerns I wanted to mention. I found a doc, set up an appointment for today. They said all new patients have to have a physical. I was fine with that. I had all of my medical records sent over from my primary doc in Philadelphia. I fasted from midnight as they requested in prep for the bloodwork. They took a urine sample, took 4 vials of blood (couldn't find a vein and poked me like 5 times), did an EKG, checked blood pressure. I filled out a load of paperwork. Then I waited. And waited. And waited to see the doctor. In a freezing cold room in a tiny hospital gown. About an hour later, he appears and tells me that he has a large practice and he can pick and choose patients, he doesn't have to take on new patients. He tells me he read through my "56 pages of medical records" and that I'm too "medically complicated" for him to take on as a new patient, due to my cancer history and my history of mental illness. He then goes even further by telling me he can't prescribe me any of my meds because I'm on "too many medications", and that taking me on as a patient would be too much of a legal risk for him. He said he didn't want to be held legally liable for prescribing me my meds or for taking me on as a patient. At this point, I was near tears. It felt like being rejected at a job interview! I asked him what he was going to do with my 4 vials of blood and urine sample and he said they will be discarding the samples and not running any of the lab tests. I'm ready to just go back to my doc in Philadelphia, it's worth the hour drive to me at this point. I wasted an entire morning on this appointment. Hours of my day, gone. Has anyone ever had such an experience of being rejected by a doctor for being too complicated/too much of a legal risk? I need to call tomorrow to make sure I'm not going to be billed for that useless appointment. The whole experience was so deflating.

Stethoscopes are decidedly old school as doctors stare into laptops occasionally coming up for air to discuss symptoms and diagnoses with the enthusiasm of a metronome. The docs could just as well be holographic or stuck in the metaverse (for that matter, so could you.) "At the tone, please download your balz into the 3-D printer." You never forget for a moment that you're "on the clock." The good news is that procedures and testing that were once outsourced are now conducted in-house with most results available next day. Maybe there's something to be said for efficiency after all. Medicine's brave new world is alive and well here. I just might get used to it. Four 3-D stars.
