Authentic Mexican food and tacos! Service was quick and you're getting the Mexican experience here. Partial Indoor and full outdoor seating lets you enjoy the market vibe. Option to dress your own tacos as the mini bar. Stop in for tacos and then shop around the market for local deals and souvenirs.

Enchiladas. Flavorful sauce, tortilla and chicken were super soft. Perfect amount of cheese and cream. Melts in your mouth. Sooo worth it!

If you can get over all the crazy smells from the butchers, walk past them and get to where all the food stalls are. We didn't pick a busy corner stall, we picked one less crowded and boy was I happy we did that! We had the best enchiladas ever! We also had fried plaintains with black bean sauce and crema and it was outstanding! Don't be afraid and just try one of the food stalls. I'm sure they are all delicious!

Typical Mexican market. Has the kinda stuff tourists would be looking for and housewares for locals. They have the jtoiryst junk and the artisan stuff. There was parking available at the market the day we visited. We didn't get anything because at this point I'm trying to get rid of stuff, not bring more home.

Tamales del 23: Guajolota is basically tamale in bread. It is not a baguette, just a normal soft bread, so I'm not really a big fan. They also serve different types of tamale. We tried 2 different atoles, rice pudding and blue corn. Both have a subtle sweetness. The rice pudding was more like a watery oatmeal in some way. I didn't really like the taste of the blue corn one. They only open from 7-12pm.

This local market is nice and small....much smaller than Mercado 28, but with list prices that are better than Mercado 28. Haggling is an art at this market too.....many of the vendors are not very eager to play the game and will gladly let you walk away. I bought a few things that were comparable in price to Mercado 28 (after haggling). There is a section for party goods, a produce and meat section, souvenirs and novelty items area. It's a cute little bazaar with a few good places to buy food and snacks. There's a section where there are several fondas and we got some nice fried empanadas and fried gorditas for MX8 each. They were made to order and they were delicious...check them out. Also some of the street vendors have good size bags of platanitos for MX15. From the Hotel Zone, you can take bus R1 and get off after the ADO bus terminal. Easy !

This is an open-air market in the downtown area that couldn't be more different than being in the Hotel Zone (or "little Las Vegas" as I refer to it). Mercado 23 is smaller than the better-known Mercado 28 and is less geared to tourists, but there are still plenty of stalls to find souvenirs (t-shirts, key chains, sea shells etc.) and at better prices than at Mercado 28 and definitely less expensive than buying in the Hotel Zone. I bought a beautiful seashell wind chime for $5US, for example. If you don't speak Spanish, I wouldn't really recommend this market, because I didn't encounter anyone who spoke English. Besides the souvenir stands there are various food vendors and tiny places to eat if you want to try it. I was really glad that we decided to visit here. We felt completely safe walking around here. We used our Waze GPS to find the place and found parking outside with no problem.

Forget the touristy magnets, come here to eat! The food is so good. The seafood is so fresh, there's an insane variety you can come here to get whatever you want. I definitely agree with other posters, Mercado 23 compared to 28; however both is a great experience. It's a more chill vibe, but still dirty like 28.

If you want to see what the locals are doing, just visit Mercado 23. No frills, and no one is trying to impress. This is the real deal. Chickens hanging from hooks, produce for sale, seafood sitting right out in the sun for purchase, tortilla making, etc. There are also souvenirs to buy. we had a great experience !!!

Food at one of the restaurants at the market. Great molé. Not pictured: chicharones.

I stayed in the city and researched a bit where to buy some stuff for home. Heard about Market 28 (and went. I don't recommend anyone go there) and decided I wanted the more authentic experience. I has some AMAZING food and got a couple of good gifts. The vendors were much less aggressive than M. 28. Very enjoyable experience. Bring $5 pesos to use the restroom though

Reasonable prices just be prepared to get hassled but they are just trying to get your business. Start to walk away and you will see them drop the prices down. If possible take Mexican pesos or if paying in American money make sure you download a currency conversion calculator that way you don't get ripped off. It's away from the hotel zone so the prices are much better. Enjoy they close at 7pm

Love how colorful Mexican markets are. All the fresh fruits and aromatic spices are so organized and arranged neatly. Whatever foreign country you go, the best place to see the "real" country is its local markets.

    Pre market selfie.

They only have cheap tourist things. Didn't spend much time here, sadly there's nothing much to see and the mercado itself is very small.
