I visited Meraki Salon and Spa for a haircut with Maddie and she did a fantastic job! I have long very thick hair and explained that I would like to keep most of the length but was hoping to somehow give my hair more volume and life. I showed Maddie one inspiration pic and she went straight to work. I'm always seriously impressed when a stylist uses shears to pull weight out of my hair, rather than texturizing scissors. Warning: Do not recommend this salon to anyone. They are very unprofessional in their business practices. I had an appointment set to get a haircut and they have a policy they they will charge you half your scheduled appointment on the the card they make you issue on file with them if you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment time. I get a call from the salon 45 minutes before my scheduled appointment to say they are canceling my appointment. I know had I called with some excuse why I would not make it to my appointment that they would charge me. I feel like this is a Seinfeld episode and I am George Contanza in this situation and they owe me half my appointment amount for wasting my time! Why could they not call earlier? Why wait till right before the appointment to "screw" someone over? Oh I know, because this is a poorly run salon and the management is not proficient at their job. Btw this is not the first review of them doing this to a customer and I'm surprised they stay in business with such poor customer service. I get my eyebrows waxed here and had an eyelash tint/lift with Shiann. She is amazing! She's friendly, always checks in on what I want, and I love going to her! Everyone there is also so sweet and they are pretty responsive whenever you need to reschedule an appointment. I also really like how organized their website is. I loved my experience at Meraki! Candice was my stylist and took great care of me. Before we began we talked about what I wanted in terms of color and cut. We did a cherry bomb red and some blonde streaks in my bangs and throughout. Candice really pampered me with the shampoo/conditioner and it was super relaxing in the salon. She layered my hair and I was going for a "shullet" shag/mullet look. She did exactly what I wanted. I love how my cut turned out and I will definitely be back! read more

I really wanted to like this place but would NOT recommend for several reasons. Let's start with unfriendly. I mean look at their team photo....not one person is smiling - weird. Very unwelcoming from the time you walk in the door. If they like the looks of you, they'll offer you a drink right off the bat. I sat there in their waiting room on each visit and was never asked if I wanted a drink until later, and others walk in after me and they get royal treatment. Even offered them some wine! Can you do that without a liquor license? I had a consult with Jacqueline in the beginning and it ends up, everything I wanted done or requested ended up not happening throughout my few visits there. One thing I particularly discussed and asked was if an Apprentice would be doing my wash, toner, etc. I was told no. I was told oh they do all of it themselves. Ha! I had an Apprentice 50% - 75% of the time. All the things I wanted and was told I'd get and it's like they do the opposite just to despise people. Now let's talk price! OMGAWDDD! I can purchase train tickets to Chicago and get my hair done by TRUE professionals and still be ahead for what I paid here. I paid almost $400 .... a car payment... for color and full hilight. This is Central Illinois folks, not LA! Definitely nothing left to spend on product, Spa, or Boutique items... so not sure why they bother having those things. The color was nothing to brag about ever. Definitely not top notch like it should be. It reminded me of when I was 14 and would do it myself. Every time I went, her station was dirty. Hair clippings all over from previous client, she even used the comb from previous client on me! Grungy counter where you place your purse, etc. Oh the comb... they should probably teach you in Beauty School, you shouldn't really use a comb on dry, curly, textured hair. It literally breaks the hair off. And put the fricking cape on your client when you are combing/brushing out their hair.... they never do! It's hilarious...like they are untrained and they want you to have hair all over your clothes and everywhere else. It's common sense and should of been the first thing you learned in Beauty School. And whatever lazy-ass tool they use to "curl" hair...literally breaks the hair off, it hurts, it pulls hair out, and it should be pitched in the trash. And if it's not the tool, then it's user error! I told them last time I was there I didnt like it, but she uses it anyway on me. It ruins your hair, so beware. And they should learn how to curl hair the right way and take their time with each client since we are literally paying you hundreds of dollars. Oh and now they also add a 4% fee to your final bill!!!! What in the hell is that? Your product prices increased so you add this on? LOL! This should be illegal and I'm sure it's their way of getting back what they "lost" in the Covid Lockdown! Pretty slick but definitely not right!! Anyway just beware! I got a facial last week at Meraki Salon & Spa. The lobby and spa room is lovely - better than other salons I have been to. Unfortunately the front desk girls are very unfriendly (almost an attitude). They are on their phones and talking to each other instead of welcoming customers. They ask you to fill out a form that was entirely irrelevant to my service. The facial itself was good - no complaints. The "Service Fee" that is added to your service is ridiculous and should be disclosed up front. What does that even mean? I am unsure if I'd return based off of the unfriendly reception & shady service fee. read more

I'm unfamiliar with the area and needed a new stylist. I came across their Instagram so I booked an appointment online with a stylist who had availability. I booked on Aug. 12 for an appointment on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. The salon has a 24-hour cancelation policy or you pay half of what the appointment cost would have been. The receptionist called me the morning before and said the stylist was sick. I was disappointed but understood and rebooked online for two weeks later with the same stylist. The day before the appointment I got a call from the receptionist again (just over 24 hours) that the stylist was sick and might have the flu. If the stylist had been sick for the last two weeks, she shouldn't have waited until the day before (again) to cancel. Definitely wouldn't recommend because of their unreliability. However, I can't speak on their actual color, cut, etc., because my appointment got canceled two times. read more
