Parking can be a pain but if you don't mind walking, you can park further away from the place you are going to. There are plenty of parks that you can go and explore. It is super beautiful during the spring & summer but especially in the fall when the leaves change color. In winter, there is less to do but it's nice place to get away if you don't mind just spending some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of life. The wineries always seem to be open so you can get your Door County wine anytime you want! I would recommend everyone to visit Door County once.

Your neighbors collect your mail and snow-blow your sidewalk when you're gone without even asking. Fed-Ex and UPS guys leave your package on your stoop, not thinking twice. This is a place with no starbucks (much less a Peets), but I'm sure they've a respectable-enough coffee shop (though I've yet to find it.) One chinese restaurant I know of, one killer taco at an ice-cream shop, of all places, the town is surrounded by water (river, bay... take your pick.) A few fast food chains... a few independents I know nothing about. They've an excellent marina that comes alive June through - early September with folks wandering from Chicago to all-points-lower Michigan, as a stay over. Even had Ted Turner, avid sailor (YAY Courageous!) so the stories go, after the Chicago-Mac. So, be it merely a stop on your way elsewhere, I recommend the, umm, waterfront. Get some tacos across the street and watch some windsurfer races.

Green Bay has some incredible food - especially chili and dumplings at Kroll's East - but the West version is not nearly as good. They also have an amazing football team which is owned by this little town and they won a lot of stuff and they have one of the best atmospheres in one of the coldest stadiums imaginable. The whole town is fixated around that football team which is great to see because it's a European Sports mentality. It's freezing up here and it's a little bit religious and backwards but at the same time it's beautiful up here and if you can avoid it in the winter which lasts about 13 months a year then you might really like it up here. It's also the gateway to the unexplored north which goes all the way up to the frozen wilderness of the Yoop, which is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Above Green Bay, the state of Wisconsin stretches out and is a massive expensive freezing-cold, beauteous nothingness. Watch out for grizzly bears on the roads around here as well. Grrrr. And watch out for me, hitch-hiking bare, on the road, as well. Brrrrrr.

Friday afternoon we came back DDC to peruse the brochures, pamphlets and literature for the area. The lobby is very inviting and stays open 24/7. We were pleasantly surprised to see a few women working behind the front counter. One did ask us if we needed assistance, but I explained that we didn't and were just there to grab a few brochures. We grabbed said brochures that weren't available to us at the AirBnb we were staying in. Mostly menus from area restaurants. There was a nice selection of information available, but also a lot of empty boxes for information about communities like Ephraim. I suppose that could be because the season is technically over come November. The Destination Door County website is LOADED with great information. Wish I has studied it prior to our trip. I suppose if you want something more personalized or need help making reservations, etc., physically connecting with a staff person would be the way to go. If you don't need that attention, you can likely find whatever you're looking for from the comfort of your own home via their website. When you arrive to their location there's a great little area to eat your lunch and/or let your dog out for a break. Conveniently located right on Green Bay Rd. in Sturgeon Bay next to Walgreens. You can't miss it. Recommend.

This is a great winery that happens to be in Door County. However, it is NOT a 'Door County…read morewinery'! Don't come here if you're hopping from winery to winery (you will be sorely disappointed when faced with real wine). If you've never heard of vitis vinifera, this winery is NOT for you. It IS, however, for those who appreciate fine wines (as opposed to the alcoholic fruit beverages served at most Wisconsin wineries). Stone's Throw appears to be one of only three Wisconsin wineries producing truly fine wines (along with Blind Horse Winery in Kohler and Von Stiehl Winery in Algoma). Yes, the atmosphere is pretentious. But that pairs well with their fine Zinfandel. I was so impressed, I joined their wine club. Cheers! I will work on getting them to provide palate cleansing crackers and water with their tastings, but the lack thereof is a minor weakness.

We came in with a reservation for 7 people and when we told the hostess they said "seven?" with a bit of a tone. We were met with several eye rolls throughout our experience, like when we asked for an extra plate, napkin, fork, and our bill (they did not bring enough for our whole party). There was nice live music being played and it's beautiful outside. There was a nail sticking out of the table and we mentioned it and they just said "okay" with no apology or solution which I also thought was odd. The stools were also pretty high up for the table, so we could not fit our legs underneath. I think our server was very stressed because it seemed to be fairly understaffed and I think that dipped into the level of service. Management or ownership definitely needs to find more staff or step in as servers, because it seemed like 3 servers were responsible for the entire place. I wouldn't be back, but I could guess the service would be better if they had more staff, which I know can be tricky toward the end of summer. It's a beautiful place in a great location, they just could use more staff so they are not so overwhelmed.
