Menehune Fishpond was easy to find and get to. It's one of those quick scenic stops where you can pull over on the side of the road, jump out, and grab a few nice pictures. I wouldn't purposely go out of my way to visit but I think it's worth a stop if in the area with time to burn.

Menehune Fishpond is a nice place to stop, read about the history on the signs and take a few pictures. It's not a destination location but if you are in the area, it's worth driving up to or if you are staying nearby, then it's a short walk. Be careful if walking as the road is windy and it is not very wide.

It was raining and we really had nothing to do but drive around. We had just come from rum tasting at the Koloa Rum Co and were going to head to lunch. There's nothing really to see at the fishpond itself, it's not worth going out of your way or even stopping at. But if you feel like driving around, the mountains behind the fishpond are beautiful. Wouldn't come back here

Initially, this pool of water did not impress us. At first glance, it appeared to be a small lake sitting in a somewhat picturesque valley. But, after hearing about its history, this pond became pretty interesting to us. According to legend, long before the Polynesians settled the Hawaii islands, a mystical race of forest dwelling "little people" (called the Menehune) with superb engineering skills constructed this fishpond in a single night about 1,000 years ago. Whether you believe the local lore or not, this remnant of ancient Hawaiian aquaculture is worth a visit if you're in the Lihue area.

Stopped by the fishpond on our day in Lihue since it was close by. It was cool and exactly what we expected.

Laurie C.

Nice drive for a decent view but not a must do. Backed by a legend of having been built overnight by little people...we were intrigued, but the drive was actually more fun than the view.

We came for the overlook and not the hike? Well it was a nice view. Looked at it for a few minutes and then left. The end.

I visited the Wailua Falls in Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi, Hawaii [Maalo Rd; Hwy 583] on Saturday, 01/24/26,…read morearound 3:30 PM. Wailua Falls offered an incredibly close view, which made the experience feel special. I was able to truly appreciate the waterfall's beauty up close. One fun highlight was spotting a rooster sitting right near the edge, which was such a classic Kauaʻi island moment because roosters are everywhere on the island. I also noticed a touching memorial sign dedicated to Kavika Luna, "Mr. Aloha" - The Flying Hawaiian (May 1960 - September 2024). The message spoke about rainbows appearing as he chanted and the magic of Wailua Falls coming alive. It felt meaningful because I actually caught a mini rainbow during my visit, which made the moment even more breathtaking and memorable. Overall, I was very pleased with this stop. Wailua Falls is absolutely worth checking out for its natural beauty and history.

Smelly as I'm sure kids at night are drinking in this area and peeing wherever they like. However, the view of the falls is worth it. I do wish they would cut down some of the weeds as it was a bit tall. Luckily, a fellow tourist that took our family photo was tall and so he was able to capture a photo of us and the fall. I do recommend visiting but just know that the parking is chaotic. Oh, and it is free.

Captain Kai was competent, informative, and very funny, as was crewmember Vayden, and Collin's mai tais are not to be missed. The food onboard was delicious and included traditional Hawaiian pulled pork and teriyaki chicken. Scrumptious cookies and bubbly rounded out the evening. Some things to be aware of: This cruise is on a catamaran; some of our party were expecting a small cruise ship that would have been a smoother ride. Waves are bumpy, and the windier parts of the trip resembled a mild roller coaster--if that's not your thing or you know you can experience some motion sickness, please factor that into your decision to book a trip. That being said, one person in our party experienced some light motion sickness and was really well cared for by the crew. We really appreciated their kindness and support. If you have sturdy sea legs and an adventurous spirit, I'd highly recommend this excursion. The views of Kauai from the ocean are worth it alone, but the information from the captain and crew about the island and its culture are also super valuable. The whole experience also felt very safe; the cruise will not go to areas with high wind/surf, and on our trip the captain explained why he was turning out of the wind/waves when he made that decision.

We saw multiple breaches, tail slaps, fluke dives, and surface activity--the whales were active the entire time. The crew positioned the boat so well that we were able to stay in one great viewing spot and still see everything without moving around. The crew was incredibly attentive without being overbearing. Drinks and snacks were always taken care of--Mai Tais, coconut cookies, and snacks kept coming--and it genuinely felt effortless to just relax and enjoy the experience. The team was knowledgeable, calm, and respectful of the whales, offering helpful context without over-talking. The boat was comfortable, well run, and the two-hour length felt just right. If whale watching is on your list in Kauaʻi, Blue Dolphin is an easy recommendation

We'd never done anything like this before, but from the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at ease. During our tour, the guides mentioned that the same company that designs ski lifts across the country engineered their zip lines -- that alone boosted our confidence in the safety and professionalism of the entire setup. You can tell they take their safety protocols seriously, without sacrificing any of the fun. The tour includes five incredible zip lines with breathtaking views -- you're literally flying across the same backdrops used in movies like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. It's unreal. One of the highlights was the 25-foot-deep swimming hole, complete with a mini zip line that lets you zip and splash right into the water. Our daughters loved it, and honestly, so did we! A massive shoutout to our guides -- Julia, Zeek, and Ryker. They were fun, knowledgeable, and created a super positive, relaxed environment that made the entire experience unforgettable. If you're visiting Kauai and want something adventurous, beautiful, safe, and genuinely memorable, I highly recommend Outfitters Kauai. We'll be talking about this day for years.

Three out of the four people aboard were throwing up the whole trip. Additionally, we did not catch a thing. Can't exactly blame the Captain, as we did fined several bait balls, but I suspect the roughness of the water did not make the lures too attractive. Considering we paid a $1,000 to fish I was very disappointed and with their eight day cancellation policy, we had now way to get out of the trip. Impossible to predict the weather, I know, but really? Were they that booked or starving for customers that they didn't offer a refund or opportunity to reschedule? Buyer beware

We were told ahead of time that if we caught fish the boat would get them and we would each gate a lb and a half each to take home. We were cool with this. For all three of us it was our first and probably only time that we would be getting a chance to fish in Kauai. We trolled for a total of 6 hours only getting 1 bump. We asked if we could bottom fish just so we could hook up with a fish and he said no & went back to chatting on his cell phone. So we trolled for another 2 hours with no action. I have fished on allot of charter boats and this was the first time that we encountered a attitude like this. I actually felt bad for one of the guys on the boat because it was his first charter and probably his only one. You're basically paying them to fish for them.....it's not about you experiencing catching a fish while on your vacation . This would not be a good boat to bring younger kids on . Two stars because I enjoyed being out on the water and enjoyed the scenery.

So it's also what you make of it and my husband and I really had the best time. I also want to say this but all of us are just guests on Hawaii and yes we are paying for a tour but they are stewards to showing us some of the most important parts of Hawaiian history and landscape. Huge shoutout to the captain, who made it feel like a full-on adventure - taking us through sea caves, near waterfalls, and still making sure everyone felt completely safe the entire time. Everyone in our group took it and felt great, unlike a couple of other tourists who were clearly struggling. The worst part is when the boat stops and rocks on the waves. Another awesome bonus was the unlimited drinks, plus really tasty sanwiches and snacks throughout the tour. Highly recommend - this ended up being the best experience we had in Hawaii!
