A nice two-screen drive-in about 45 minutes from home, though I wish it was closer! It is $20 per carload for a double feature, though many usually leave after the first flick. The typical pairing types are in one of several categories: General audience, Kiddie, Action, J-Lo, and WHAT ARE THEY THINKING??? I haven't seen the last of those in a while. The drive-in has graded molehills to park your car so you can choose the appropriate angle, but a good number get the pickup truck, back it up, and use the bed as a bed. We just 'park' and throw down the Shakespeare chairs in front with a cooler. What we love about the drive-in is the environment. You crack out the lawn chairs, kick back with a radio in front of you tuned to the screen's frequency, and can bring whatever you want to nosh on top of the food served (no alcohol). No shushing unless you're screaming. You can just bash the movie a-la MST3K all you want. It makes going to two movies you're on the fence to wanting to watch watchable. Instead of suffering two hours silently staring at an atrocity, you can spend the time making a mockery of it with those you love. The food is very reasonably priced. Not dirt cheap, but very reasonable, as opposed to movie theater prices. Buckets of popcorn for a little over $3, plenty of serviceable burgers, burritos, nachos, chili, popcorn chicken, fries, ice cream, and raspberry-lime rickeys. Of course, there are your candy staples. I like to bring drinks and get food hot there. The only issue I have is there only being a single centralized bathroom, but they're kept pretty clean and the lines go fast during the rushes. It's a wonderful taste of nostalgia. The Mendon drive-in is a great place to catch first run movies as part of a double feature. At only $20 per car you really can't beat the price. We tend to get there early to avoid the backup but there is usually plenty of great spaces left for those who show up just before dusk. The snack bar is a winding maze that serves typical junk food, but the burgers are decent along with the popcorn. There is an ATM machine located in the snack bar lobby as well. I like coming here at least three times each summer although I think it is time for the Dark Knight to be retired so other movies can be shown. I was disappointed that X-Files was not shown despite being listed in the upcoming movies list for 2 months. We saw it at the Sharon cinemas instead. read more

Dear Mendon Drive In, YOU are my savior! My husband and I were so worried that we will never ever enjoy the movies again because of our newborn baby. Thanks to you, our baby's first movie is the new installment of Jurassic Park. She can't enjoy popcorn yet but it is really nice to be able to breastfeed while I watch a T-Rex throw some serious smack down. The picture quality of your screen is great. It sounds like surround sound even when we are just using our car's radio. We enjoy the cozy family atmosphere. We love your beer garden. You even priced your beer so reasonably and for that we are really thankful because babies are really expensive. For $25 and two movies, you have given me and my husband a chance to live like normal movie goers. Next time, we will show up earlier so that we can score a better parking spot. So fun. I've gone 3 times now, once this summer and once each the past 2 years. There are two screens there each showing 2 movies each. There's the "family friendly screen" and then the more "adult screen." Last week Pirates of the Caribbean/ Thor were on one screen and Bridesmaids/Fast and the Furious were on another. We went to the Pirates/Thor one. Just fyi - Pirates is really good, Thor is terrible. My only critique of the movies we saw is that they, especially Pirates are very dark movies so on a drive-in screen it's hard to see sometimes. Sometimes the screen is so dark in a scene you can't actually see what they are doing. It's better to go see lighter movies. You can bounce between screens if you want to see the first movie in one and the 2nd movie at the other screen. You aren't really supposed to but you can, however they don't always end at the same time, so the 2nd movie may start before the 1st movie at the other screen ends - so don't hold your breadth in case it doesn't' work out. You drive there, pay $20 a car to get in (you can cram as many people into one car as you want - even dogs!), and drive until you find your perfect spot. It's one of the cheapest activities you can do with the whole family + others for a night. Four of us saw 2 movies that night for $20, that would be at least $80 at a regular movie theater. The trick is to get there early, esp opening night of a movie because it gets crazy crowded. Families get there early, set up camp - chairs every where, tables, a big ole picnic, and bring activities for the kids - soccer balls, Frisbee, etc. to kill the time while you are waiting for it to get dark. The movies start when it gets dark, so it varies throughout the summer. Usually the big ole gas guzzler SUVs and trucks part in the back, but they let some park wherever this time and one parked in front of us and it blocked our view. Sucks and so selfish - don't be a jerk and park your big car in front of small cars. You can bring whatever food/drinks you want, including alcohol - they don't search your bags or anything. Now I wouldn't be sucking on a 40 oz in front of everyone, try to be a little discreet but feel free to bring a bottle of wine/vodka just put it in a cup. They offer lots of food - nothing is vegan really unless you want french fries. If you like eating food that'll kill you one day, there's plenty to offer - nachos, burgers, tacos, hot dogs, etc. They have an ice cream bar too, but I don't think it has sorbet. We usually bring our own food to save $ and to eat a lil healthier, but there prices are pretty reasonable. They don't charge you ridiculous amounts like other movie theaters. They give you a bag to put your trash in and you leave it by your spot when you drive off. Very convenient - though it is sad to see how much trash is left behind. The bathroom line is huge during intermission (break between the 2 movies) so give yourself plenty of time. It takes a lil under an hour to get there from Boston. Now beware there are 2 drive-in movie theaters within 20 mins of each other, so make sure you go to the right one, we went to the wrong one last year and it was really embarrassing. My friend: "We are at screen 3" Me: "There are only 2 screens here, there isn't a screen 3" My friend: "No we are at screen 3, where are you?" If I could give a 100 stars I would! This is by far the coolest place in MA! I go here as much as possible in the Summer! I go on the weekends with a bunch of friends! But, I also go during the weekend with my husband and we have our special date-night! We absolutely love it here! We drive 50 minutes to come here! The place is absolutely spotless! The people here are very kind, too! You can bring your dog..phew! He'd be pretty mad if he couldn't come to watch his two movies! They have two screens and usually play some great movies! My only suggestion to you is if you are going on the weekends or any sort of holiday is definitely go at least an hour early..you will never get a good parking place!! Also, bring plenty of chairs, blankets and BUG SPRAY! You will be happy you did! The snack bar is also very clean and the prices are very cheap! The food is delicious, too!!! Tons of mexican food to choose from. My only wish for this drive in is that they played a few more R rated movies..it's always just pg movies and it's really always kid type movies! Been coming here every summer for the past several years with friends and family. We love it so much! When you pick the right weather and the right double feature it's always a great night to be had! Bring your own food, but if you forget don't worry ! They have their own snack shack as well as their own beer garden now. We always arrive pretty early about 7-7:30pm to get a good parking spot. But we always have plenty of games or things to chat about to keep us busy for the movie starts at about 8:30-9pm whenever it gets dark. They have a slide for the little kids to play around on. Sometimes they even have themed nights where some movie props are displayed near the beer garden. Went to Back to the Future night where he Delorean was on display it was so cool! Another fun night to go to it Rocky Horror Picture Show! It's a little colder in October but it's a great time and don't forgot to bring your own props for the fun! This place is great. It's not a far drive from Boston, and if you take Rt. 16 the whole way you'll see some really pretty country before getting there. I went on a Tuesday and it was not very busy at all, so we got a great spot. The screen and sound were of good quality and the movies were easy to watch. For $20 per car load, it translated to $5 each person for each movie, which is a bargain. Also the people that work there are wicked friendly. The food prices aren't bad and they do not gouge customers. This is the closest drive-in to Boston and is also open all week, as opposed to the other two that are almost as close that are only open on weekends. What a perfect summer activity. Get some friends and drive an hour to see a double-feature under the stars. The trashier the movie, the better. I usually end up going to something I don't care too much about seeing so I can make frequent trips to the bathroom and snack bar and still be able to catch the neat-o explosions but not miss plot. The snack bar is made up of pretty much a variety frozen stuff you can find at the supermarket and thrown into a deep fryer and covered in cheez sauce and reasonably priced. And nobody seems to mind if you bring in a few cold ones as long as you're not being a drunken jackass. I also pour them into a plastic cup to keep it a little discreet and as a way of saying "I know you guys know I'm drinking, but I'm not gonna disrespect you by doing it out in the open." read more

Eh. It's one of the only drive-ins around so you're kind of stuck if that's the experience you're going for. The bathrooms are pretty consistently below-par and the 16-year old parking attendants are all kinds of annoying with their power trips. Dude actually whipped out a measuring tape and didn't say anything to the giant SUVs parked up near the screen. ‍ 99% sure the beer garden is there to neutralize your feelings towards them. The food needs improvement. I mean, the new (not that new, it has been maybe 3 or 4 years) owners are food critics and it's barely edible. Kind of sad. Also, interesting to note that the previous owners restricted tall vehicles to the pink rows so they didn't block anyone. Now it's a free-for-all. We went to this drive in over the past weekend and it was OUTSTANDING. Sure, the movies themselves were nothing to write home again (seriously, how the F did finding nemo make it *back* to the theatres?!) but that wasn't the point. For me, it was my first drive in EVER and it was awesome. Better than I expected and so much fun! The weather was perfect, crisp, cool and little to no bugs! The snack bar was clean, well-stocked and everyone was friendly. It was $25 a car, but they also had $3.50 jalapeño poppers, plus it wasn't eve that crowded. And for two back-to-back movies that's a great deal. I'm only a little bummed that the really kick ass jukebox (full of awesome records!) had quarters jammed in the slot so we couldn't play some tunes. Another awesome factor: the bathrooms are awesome. Cleaner than any regular theatres I've been to in the greater Boston area, seriously. I did not feel violated after using them! The only real downside is we hit it up for the very last night of the season and now I have to wait until April to go back again and I don't know if I'm going to make it! read more

This place does it right. Everything you want and expect from a Drive-In experience. Helpful staff, great variety of food and snacks, clean bathrooms. Well spaced parking slots. I can't recommend it enough. Of course, people can be annoying jerks. There are three main categories that I see at the drive-in. (1) The car runners. The people who get cold and turn their car on for heat or to defrost their windows. If you are next to someone who does this every 10 minutes during a movie, it is a major distraction. You smell the exhaust, it's loud, and if the car has daytime running lights it shines in the eyes of everyone around. (2) Smokers. Yes you are outside, but odds are the people next to you are probably non-smokers, and would like to enjoy being outside too. (3) Loud talkers/cell phone users. Always irritating, and unfortunately, aways a danger when going out to the movies, drive-in or not. read more

Been here a bunch and while it's worth going to once for the novelty, you're better off investing in a projector and creating your own drive in at home. Food is overpriced and consists of fried food, they laugh if you ask about coffee (not a crazy drink like you get at Starbucks, just a black coffee), and while the staff in the golf cart can't be bothered to tie down the trunks of late arriving cars blocking your view, they will hunt you down if you turn your engine on to defog your windshield. I've seen maybe one new movie here in the past two years; the rest have all been existing movies that I should have watched at home and saved my $30. read more

So classic. It's a drive-in, what's not to like? $20 per car from what I remember. And that gets you 2 movies and you're able to hang out in your car and shoot the shit and drink beers while not bothering anybody. Last time I went was the summer of Drinkin' With Paul (currently we're in negotiations for a book and movie deal), the summer of 2001. Our innocence had not yet been lost due to 9-11, and it was the first summer home from college where I was actually 21. Paul and I grabbed an 18 pack of Michelob Light, threw it in the cooler, and headed on down to Mendon. There's no easy way to get here from the home town of Natick. Route 495 to route 16 is too roundabout, so we always end up taking route 16 the whole way. It's quite a windy road to get there, but when you pull in and tune your radio to the designated station, all your troubles fade away. Even better if you have a convertible and a snazzy dame to snuggle up with, friend!!! Great lil snack bar with popcorn, hot dogs, and fried stuff. Loved this place. Drove on Friday to see Grease. Got there at 7:20pm for 8pm movie, not that busy. Got the 3rd row back in middle. Almost no one doubled up between the white poles, so it was pretty spacious. Great atmosphere, relaxed people. Beer/wine garden is great b/c you can drink and watch outside. If you come in a regular car and sit in it, you will not be able to see the screen. We tried lawn chairs on the ground next to the car,and couldn't see very much. Went to the drive ins two nights in a row for the a double feature and the Bon Jovi concert and both nights the audio only played the main track no back ground music for the movies and for the concert all we could hear was Jon's mic no instruments or background singers. I had high hopes for this place but it fell short in this aspect as audio is very important to a movie and concert experience. Haven't been to one of these in like 30 years....it was a blast! Arrived about 6:45 for an 8:30 movie and it was probably just under halfway filled. Just backed the loser-cruiser up, broke out the camp chairs and table, spread out the pizza, drinks, and snacks that we brought with us. can't beat $20/car, and that gets you both movies that night if you're up for it. Heard the snack bar was good, but we didn't hit it. it was like a giant tailgate party - minus the grills. We brought some beers too, but kept them out of site so as to not draw any attention to ourselves (as alcohol is prohibited on the grounds). Kids running around everywhere playing catch, lax, soccer. I feel like a kid every time I visit the Mendon Drive-In. This place is great and I hope they are around for a very long time. The price is twenty dollars per car load which is a great deal but I often go by myself because I just love the Drive-ins. The food is ok for drive in food. Make sure you get your orders before intermission of you will be waiting in a long line. The only drawback when going to the drive-in is people can light up their smokes which can really put a damper on your evening if you are parked next to them. read more

I had a BLAST visiting the Mendon Twin Drive-In Theater for the Rocky Horror Picture Show & Beetlejuice Double Feature a few weeks ago. A shadowcast by RKO Army, who also performed the Thriller dance, sealed the deal. Tickets/Parking/Location: -love that the screens are situated "in the woods", creates a totally immersive experience. -the lines were long, but we moved through relatively quickly. However, not much info was provided in terms of where to park, and what we were supposed to do once inside. A pamphet is handed to you, which explains some of these things. -tickets for the Rocky Horror event were $20 in advance. Considering it was myself and my husband in the car, we were paying $10 each (still a relatively good deal for two movies and a "show"). But you can have up to 6 people in your car! Think of the savings! -parking can be quite tricky. Low-profile cars (like sedans) park up from. Behind that are small- sized CRVs, small pickups. In the back are full size pick up trucks, SUVs and so on. At least that's how it's supposed to run. We saw quite a few larger SUV (with their hatches up) that were obstructing the screen. Be polite and park where you're supposed to! Food/Facilities: -we didn't eat before we came, and having read that you're "not supposed to bring your own food", we chose to eat at the Drive-In. Cost isn't obscene, but expect to pay a little more than McDonalds. They offer "diner" foods like hamburgers, chicken fingers, corn dogs, hot dogs, as well as "movie theater" foods like popcorn, nachos, candy. There's another stand that sells fried dough and ice cream. -the quality of the food was "meh"-- especially seeing as this is owned by the same guys who are Phantom Gourmet-- so in that regard, it's a disappointment. The popcorn was good, if not a little salty, and the rest of the food was A-OK, for a cheap roadside stand type of meal. -cashier at the food stand was very polite -there's a beer garden on site, but we didn't hit it up. Beer and food shuts down at the start of the second film (runs through intermission). Picture/Sound: -we were situated quite far back, and did not bring folding chairs, blankets, etc.-- we sat inside the cab of the pickup truck. We tuned our radio in to the station and were able to hear quite clearly. The picture was great, considering you're outdoors. Unfortunately, the lights from the ticketing booths make it a little harder to see. -for the best viewing experience, come in a smaller vehicle and/or park closer to the screen, bring out your folding chairs and blankets, and watch with your radio (there is some sound being pumped out by the theater, but I wouldn't rely on it). TL;DR: Go early. Sit up close. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and a radio. Buy popcorn and maybe a beer. Eat before you go. Enjoy the show. Repeat. read more

The Mendon Drive-In is one of the few remaining drive-in's in Massachusetts. When the weather is nice, there will be a line of cars all the way up Rt. 16 waiting to get in. They tend to cater to families, usually running a double feature with a more kid friendly movie first and a 'grown up' movie last. (I think when I went this past summer it was Shrek 3 and Spiderman 3?) My husband and I love to go here on a warm summer night. Lots of people bring lawn chairs and sit on the grass, others sit in their car. I have an SUV, and I like to put the backseat down and lay in the back with my blanket. They drive around before the movie starts and hand out rope so you can tie down your trunk so it doesn't block other peoples' view. The snack bar is good, we usually bring our own snacks and drinks, which they allow, but I have gotten french fries before. They were yummy and cheap. The movies they play are actually really current, I am always surprised when they are playing a newer movie. They have signs posted asking that larger trucks and SUV's park in the back, most people follow that rule as a given, but there are some obnoxious people who drive their mini-vans to the middle and let their bratty kids sit on the roof. ::eye-roll:: read more

I went the Mendon Drive In 2 years ago with my boyfriend to see Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. It was an AMAZING experience. I went back a couple weeks ago with my grandmother for her birthday to see Maleficent with Angelina Jolie. We stocked up our car with blankets and took our dog too! We arrived when the sun was setting. I recommend getting there a little early for a guaranteed spot. It's 25$ a car to enter, which is an amazing price and I hope that never goes up. You get 2 movies for that price 2 people = $6.25 each movie which is the same as a regular theater ticket price and the experience of a drive in is way more fun. PLUS I've seen people go to the drive in with 5 people, that means it's only $2.50 a ticket for each person, you can't get much better than that. The area where the drive in is located is serene and friendly. The snack shack is so cute and they have a wide variety of food. From pizza and fried dough to popcorn and candy. They even have vanilla coke! The prices are cheap too. When you first enter into the drive in the person who gives you your ticket also gives you a little trash bag to put all your wrappers and stuff in which is so considerate. The movie was also great. The audio from the movie comes in through your radio which (with my experience) has always been exceptionally clear and there are never any audio technical difficulties. I think this place is so cool. This is a flash back to the past. I went to see Christopher Robins. It was very easy to pay and find a spot. I am thankful they had a smoking location. Yes I am one of the few that still smoke cigarettes. Only food I tried was popcorn. The rest did not seem appealing. The bathrooms ok nothing fancy they do the job. They have porta pottys too if the bathrooms get too busy. This is a great place for families or a date. The sound was good. I do wish they enforced rules around car lights. A few people were not considerate which was annoying. You can bring your own food n drinks even though the rules discourage this. I only stayed for the first movie and I did not have any problems getting out. I would suggest bringing a chair n bug spray. If it was closer I would visit more often. I saw some trucks that really made the best of it by bringing air mattress, pillows and blankets. They have a cool area were you can make s'mores which is very neat. You have to buy their kits. Adult beverages beer n wine not cheap but not the most expensive. The slide is great for kids but it's not cheap. I enjoyed myself. I would give a 5 but the food selection and quality was not acceptable. I am glad I ate at a diner prior. The screen was great. I don't think there would be a bad spot. They have radios you can use. You need to leave your id. I would recommend if you have any concerns about draining your battery. read more

Every time I go, it just keeps getting better. You have to arrive early if you want a good spot otherwise you are stuck in the back. Sound doesn't matter since it tunes to your radio so as long as you can see the screen you are good to go. This is definitely a place geared towards families or it seemed that way since I was watching Despicable Me and Toy Story 3. The ice cream wasn't very expensive and tasted good. The bathroom lines can get long though so try to go way before a movie starts or during the movie. Most cars (especially families) leave after the first movie so if you do not get a good spot for the first film, you can move up somewhere. I love the feel of this place. Very classic and old school. 0 stars - my sister and I took our adopted little sister here for her 10th birthday party with a bunch of her friends- 2 separate cars of excited kids. One child got sick and unfortunately had to get picked up by her father. My sister and I walked her to the front to her fathers car. About 6 employees approached us screaming accusing us of sneaking in. And said they were told they saw us getting dropped off by a truck? When I tried to explain situation, the ring leader of the mendon drive-in clown squad cut me off and said "I DONT CARE" and proceeded to kick us out. My sister and I were followed by a golf cart and had to tell a party of 10 year old girls in the middle of a movie we had to go home. While packing up other movies goers were OBVIOUSLY annoyed we're starting our cars and making noise packing up so they proceeded to beep and complain (I understand why). So not only did these power hungry mendon twin drive in employees ruin my 10 year old sisters birthday party by kicking out 2 cars of people who spent money on food, beverages and tickets... they also ruined the movie for several others! Honestly this review is based on nothing about the actual venue but about the customer service of the people that run it. I contacted them in the middle of February about costing out running one of our charity events there. They responded rather quickly the first time and were keen to set up a package for us. I have not heard back from them since, even after following up several times and emailing one of the owners. Shame that they don't want my business or to help local charities. It's an amazing location, it was well kept but if this is how they treat future business with clients, I guess they'll just have to rely on walk ins. read more

Upon arrival, literally half of the menu was not available and the other half consisted of nasty frozen pizza, 10$ chicken nuggets and fries and fried dough that looked like it was fried on 3 month old oil. Worst customer experience we've ever had here from the manager who worked tonight. We had a complaint, which we calmly and respectfully brought to the manager. The manager came with a hostile attitide and did nothing that someone with good customer service would do. His ears were closed before the conversation began. We've been coming here for 30 years (usually 4 or more times a year), and they lost a loyal customer, which would have been prevented had the manager exercised good customer service. read more

Get there early, and enjoy the beer garden if you are 21+, It's great on a summer night. Bring your own food and snacks or get some stuff from the shack. Its a very social way to experience a movie, you can talk before hand with your friends, then retreat to your car, or set up a camp outside your car and watch it with a group of friends... just remember to have a radio to help make the audio sound better. It's tough to do this for the double header, but a cheap way to spend a summer night! Some things! if you have a hatch you have to tie it down below the roof of your car. There will be people who bring in booze and drink too much and wander around... but usually there's a family option screen, and a adult optioned theme.... so... be aware of that if you come with the kids! If for some reason, you want to see a movie at both screens, you can't screen hop. But! you can have a friend set up at one screen and you at another and wander over. read more

I grew up near Mendon (as sad as that may be :) ). Where else can you still find a good old drive in within a reasonable distance from anywhere!! It still has the old time feeling, like back in the days of Grease Lightening. Plus... there isn't any other reason you'd ever go to Mendon. This was so so fun, and after the movie my car wouldn't start for about an hour (in the cold) and the staff was amazing. Truly saved us, i don't know what i would've done. They stayed and tried with 4 different battery packs and then jumped my car with their own car and waited until we finally got it working. Above and beyond service, some of the nicest people i've met. read more

My husband and I had a great experience! It was our first time in a Drive-In. We arrived 1 hour and 20 min earlier just in case. Staff was super nice, friendly and polite. The quality of the screen and audio were good as well. We didn't buy any food or drinks. It's also a dog friendly establishment which makes it even better. I'd 100% recommend this place read more

This place is great. Two screens playing two different movies each. Fit as many people in your car as you can and it's only $20 a car load. Sometimes we sit in the car, sometimes we bring camping chairs and just sit out front and enjoy warm summer nights. They have a snack bar with awesome raspberry lime rickeys but your in your car so you can bring your own food. get there before sun down so you can get a good spot then relax till the movie starts. they play your typical family friendly movies AND some r rated from time to time. they do have a web site so check it out to see what's playing read more
