We had a fire pit which me and the family made s'mores. They had all the amenities and more they had a pool. They had a hot tub ,playground for the kids and he also had a game an it was walkable two of the restaurants in a short drive or Uber to downtown. . We all had a great experience at this site and I will happily go back again.

I wish there were more vegetarian options. Our server was excellent (sorry did not catch her name). But where this place shines is the historic atmosphere of the hotel. I did not stay there but after lunch, Wyatt gave our group a tour of about half dozen unoccupied rooms along with some history of the hotel. There are 40 rooms, each with a different theme reflecting an aspect of Iowa's history. There were originally 77 rooms with only 23 of them with indoor plumbing! The rooms are well-appointed and reasonably priced at an average of $200. I had no idea this gem existed so close to home!

The room is equipped with two double beds, the sheets were a little worn, kinda like going to Grandma's house. There is a refrigerator, microwave but no coffee maker. Casey's is right next door and Kum & Go is right across the highway, so there's plenty of coffee, donuts and junk food available. For fifty bucks, it's a cheap sleep if you just want to nap and move on!

You get the idea. But clean and under 50 bucks. I will not stay there again however. The smell alone. Smoke and mold. I should've slept in my car. But it was after midnight and I needed a shower. The very very cheapest thin small old towels , pillows and toiletries. The carpet is disgusting. Look at this picture of the carpet near the bathroom. Now all my clothes even smell like smoke! And the price went up.

I live in DSM. I have traveled to the Guthrie Center Fair a few times in the past…read more Tonight we made the way to the fairgrounds on New Years Eve. It is for a wedding reception. As we made our way into the parking lot the beautiful Christmas lights set up was still up and all a glow. The display is very pretty, but not the reason we came. We parked in the mass of cars and made our way into the building for the reception. This is the second reception I have been to here. It is a really nice set up. The building is a great size for a nice group of people. There is room for dancing, a bar set up, a table for the bridal group. We had a really good time. For the location and being this far from Des Moines it is a really nice facility. I hope to make it back sometime for the fair.
