It's a blast just watching so many people at the bottom wipe out or knock other people over. Come on, if you are standing at the bottom of a ginormous sled hill and there's sledders along the entire top of the hill, you are likely going to get hit. Survival of the fittest, people. We take walks here with our dog a lot and he loves running around the wide open space when we are the only ones. It's a nice location, and definitely the place to go when you want an awesome sledding experience!

This place has always had a special place in my heart for how many good times I have had here with family and friends over the years. We always end up seeing some kind of nature, whether it's deer, chipmunks, squirrels, fish, frogs, turtles, etc. There is always something new to see. Over my years of coming here it has grown to have larger building with more interactive things for people of all ages. Trails are well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for more hiking soon. Dedicated to my loving father, who taught me if you stop, stand still, and are very quiet in nature you will probably end up seeing nature reveal herself to you.

One can explore the old Nature Center with historical facts or the new Nature Center with a kid's play area and animal exhibit. The snapping turtles were an absolute hit with my niece and nephews! Outside, there are two owls and a hawk as well as two nature trails and some kid's activities. Each trail is maybe 0.5 miles and 1.3 miles which is perfect for kids. Along the trails, be sure to stop at the lookouts to enjoy the views. They even have short peeking slots for the kids. I had the best time visiting Little Red Schoolhouse and seeing all their updates from when I last visited as a kid. Highly recommend for all!

Very well cared for. Nice children's playground with soft ground area. Places to park your bike. There is a Pavilion area that may be accessible soon, its under construction. This is located in a quiet and nice neighborhood, West of Oak Park Ave. 1/2 block North of Cermak Road. It runs several city blocks that lead to Harlem Avenue. Many places to eat, barber shops, salons, Tony's Large Supermarket nearby, Office Depot, Pet Stores. Very large indoor shopping mall nearby West a few Blocks, North Riverside Mall. On numerous occasions, we have taken…read moreadvantage of the fact that this cabin in Indian Gardens is available for rental by residents and various organizations. Rentals are available in six-hour time slots and you can even rent overnight! When I was in elementary school, my friend had the "coolest" birthday party ever: a sleepover at the Scout Cabin! We enjoyed cuddling in sleeping bags and listening to my friend's dad tell ghost stories about the cabin. In the past, my family has rented out the cabin for big picnics during the summer, which were always a HUGE hit among our relatives and friends. We have also rented the cabin most recently for a few graduation parties. My dad always does the actually renting, but the process seems pretty straightforward: go to the Riverside Water Tower to complete a rental form, show your ID, get approval. You can pick up the key right ahead of time and be sure you bring it back at the end of the day (or night, depending on the hours you agreed upon). Renting the Scout Cabin is really a blast. There is a long winding driveway leading up to the cabin, which sits practically right on the river and among lots of trees and vegetation. We always have fun decorating the posts at the front of the driveway with balloons or signs welcoming our guests. There is a small parking area right next to the cabin, which we usually reserve for our elderly guests; the rest park on the street. The cabin comes with a bunch of different items like picnic tables, a fridge, a microwave, two bathrooms (one for men, one for women), etc. There's also a grill outside and TONS of lovely green space for outdoor games. We've had water balloon tosses, badminton games, soccer games, you name it. I highly recommend renting out the Scout Cabin for your event or party. I promise it'll be a huge hit! Tip: In the summer months, the mosquitoes are particularly brutal. Be sure to bring bug spray, especially if you plan on hiking on the river trail near the cabin or playing games outside.
