There are ropes to hold to but the little daredevil in her would just run across so it is important to be watchful of the child and be sure they won't trip and fall through the ropes. 2) The whole playground has a rubbery ground so it is very comfortable and safe. 3) There is a splash pad in between the toddler and older children sections. I am uncertain when it actually turns on. We have been twice, once at 9 AM and a second time at 3:30 PM. It was on in the afternoon and several kids were running in and out of the splash pad. It's a great option to have when it's hot and sunny out. 4) There are six tennis courts nearby and this works out perfectly for our preschooler to squeeze in a tennis session with her daddy before or after the playgrounds. Cons: 1) Not a con at all - But the playground is so vast that I can barely capture the whole frame in one picture!

The location is a bit unassuming and can be easily missed. However, I'm glad we found this spot and gave it a try. There are multiple pro factors that will have us as recurring visitors. 1) The tennis courts are separate from the pickleball courts. Both are well maintained. This is a huge plus for our firstborn who has recently begun taking tennis lessons from her daddy. 2) Next to the tennis and pickleball courts is a fenced-in fitness court with plenty of equipment for full body workouts with an emphasis on utilizing body weight. Gaga ball, tetherball, a mini race track and fitness walk are all located adjacent to the fitness court. There is also a very creative sensory path that guides people to hop, skip, walk, or slide through the patterns. Our girls had a ton of fun with that path. 3) The playground is vast with plenty of equipment. There is a small section for toddlers and a bigger section for older kids. Our girls especially enjoyed the tall slides, rock climbing wall, and spiralized ladder. My firstborn is usually a big fan of monkey bars but these ones are slightly different from the standard and has a bit of a curve so she didn't enjoy them as much. 4) The location is just minutes away from La Grange downtown which has several family friendly lunch spots that we frequent. We can easily spend a morning at the park and then venture over to downtown for a simple lunch and stroll.

The actual park has been re-built slightly more south, with a toddler mini park as well as a bigger kid area. They have really expanded the rest of the park. There are two beautiful ponds which have fountains in the middle of each. In addition, there is a beautiful gazebo which is perfect to take pictures in as the backdrop of the fountains are perfect. Both times I have visited there have been both wedding and prom pictures being taken. There are also plenty of photogenic ducks just waiting for a photo opportunity!

What interested me about Brookfield Woods compared to the other trailheads nearby is that it is the mile marker starting point for the Salt Creek Trail System. As an outdoor fitness enthusiast who has been running for years, I would categorize the difficulty level as easy because the terrain is flat! I encountered mostly walkers, a few joggers, and many recreational bike riders along this path. While on it I felt that peaceful sense of being in nature as I heard birds chirping, the wind blowing, and the sound of the flowing salt creek which was off to my left while going out. I even got glimpses of chipmunk and squirrel running across my path; some even startling me at times when close by which also kept me in the moment during my hike. On my turnaround, I encountered a Canadian goose which I am absolutely terrified of! I am even known to alter my run routes just to avoid them out of fear of being attacked! It hissed at me as I went around it; it is like it instantly got its little goose panties in a bunch. I swear my heart rate increased as I eased by it because the last thing I wanted to experience was getting my ass kicked by a Canadian goose. That is a losing situation that I am unsure how I will bounce back from, but bye bye goose! I spent a little over forty-minutes during my hike on the path but could have easily gone longer if I were running instead. There are a variety of activities you can conduct on the Salt Creek Trail System path which extends 7.1 miles out; some of those activities I can certainly see are hiking, running, walking, biking, or even in-line skating. Other than my encounter with the Canadian goose, I had a pleasant experience on the Salt Creek Trail System as indicated in this review and would return. And it was so crowded, we left after only a mile. It was hard to maintain social distance on the paved path while avoiding the many bikers, roller bladers, and walkers. We found a few quiet side trials that each led 200-300 feet into the woods, but due to recent rains, those paths were very muddy, then flooded. We did find some moss. And some pretty trees and plants. So we hung out in the woods, then got out and went home. Pros: Free. Free parking. Clean trials. Plenty of parking. Paved trials. Not too many mosquitoes. Con: this trail goes through residential areas. We were literally passing inches from backyards of homes, yards filled with people. Fair enough. It is their home!! But it felt weird to just walk past their backyard while everyone is outside doing family stuff.

Brezina Woods is located in west suburban Cook County…read more There are so many ways to enjoy this beautiful piece of nature. There are paved paths that are accessible. They are great for biking, rollerblading, pushing a baby stroller or wheelchair, walking your dog, or simply taking a stroll. If you prefer a more rugged trail, there is a smaller foot path that runs along the creek. The rugged trail is not accessible and is best for walking. It can get muddy and sometimes small parts of the path can be a tad challenging to walk past. I mostly enjoy walking the rugged path with my dog. She absolutely loves walking along the creek and even wades in the water for little breaks. It's really nice to see that other patrons who enjoy these trails are mostly respectful and courteous. Keep in mind that these trails are shared by walkers, runners, bikers, babies in strollers, people in wheelchairs, and also dogs. Always stay to the right. Bikers will either ring a bike bell or call out "on your left" before passing you on the left side. This system is basic trail etiquette and it works well. Brezina Woods has free parking and limited port a potties. Hours: year-round: sunset to sunrise There are three picnic groves that you can reserve on fpdcc.com Grove #1 Capacity: 150 people Grove #2 (with shelter) Capacity: 350 people Grove #3 (with shelter) Accessible Capacity: 200 people Note: Please respect other patrons by not blaring your music loudly or talking loudly on your phone while walking near people on the trails. Dogs must be leashed and owners must always clean up after their pets. And please be a respectful human being and clean up your liter. My dog recently tried eating a McDonald's cheeseburger because someone left their bag of left overs disbursed near the creek. Most people do a great job of cleaning up after themselves, but unfortunately there are those who don't. I'm sharing lots of pics. (Most of them got posted separate from this review.) I hope it gives you an idea of what to expect when you visit the trails. Bonus: Along the trail, there is a little outdoor station to get water for you and your pup. You can also air up your bike tires! It's a cute little set up on the outside of a local resident's backyard fence. I just love this! Such a kind thing to do.

It was 15 minutes getting started with the activities. Some of the little ones was crying and irritated for waiting. The mean green Grinch was outside to entertain us with a few jokes. Once we got the green light to start. It was worth the wait. Beautiful Christmas light displays along the path. Smores and bonfires set up around the park. A Hot Chocolate Stand, Camel Rides, Selfie Stations and other pop up surprises. Free Admission. A fun and wonderful entertainment for the family. I had an amazing time walking around and enjoying the holiday festival.

It was a breath of fresh air the evening I decided to run at Miller Meadow Forest Preserve. Being…read morethat I work nearby as well as drive along Roosevelt Ave where I pass by Miller Meadow - North, it was only a matter of time that I would conduct some form of an activity at Miller Meadow. I entered off 1st Ave which is labeled as Miller Meadow - South; and the first feature that immediately caught my eye was its off-leash dog area which was huge. As a fitness enthusiast that has been running for years, I would categorize the difficulty level of Miller Meadow - South as moderate because the terrain is not entirely flat. Distance markings are marked along the path, a loop style path totaling 1.70 miles per loop. I encountered mostly walkers, a few joggers, and a couple of recreational bike riders along the path. At one point during my loop, there was a woman who caught and overtook me as I ran. We went back-and-forth with me overtaking her and her overtaking me which brought competitiveness during my time on the path. I spent no more than forty-minutes during my initial run on the path but could have easily gone longer if I had the time. While well into the path, I felt that sense of being in nature as well as engulfed by tall grass in certain parts. I also felt that feeling of being secluded, but there were always nature's animals within sight that kept me in the moment. I could not help but enjoy the beautiful sounds of birds chirping, glimpses of the red-winged blackbird throughout the entire path, and I even saw a deer from afar in the woods. There are a variety of activities you can conduct within the path of Miller Meadow - South; some of those activities I can certainly see are hiking, running, walking, biking, in-line skating, or even bird watching. The area can also be used to conduct large gatherings, or picnics; and its large field is perfect for many recreational activities you can partake in. The area is well-maintained, consisting of benches with tables located in shaded areas near or underneath trees, but very few picnic shelters which are perfect for large gatherings; and there are even a couple of portable restrooms within the space. Along the path, there are waste and recycling bins, even in some of the secluded spots. And on top of it all, Miller Meadow has a very spacious parking lot. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience at Miller Meadow Forest Preserve, as indicated in this review and would definitely return. As a runner, I can see myself returning just to conduct interval runs around its loop in build-up to long run events I participate in. ~An adventure a day keeps the doctor away. ~ Thomas G
