We had a care plan in place with our regular vet but as our old fella slipped very quickly over Saturday night/Sunday morning we found ourselves at the mercy of out of hours veterinary care. We tried in vain for someone to come out as it would have been so painful for him to travel in the car but we couldn't get through to anybody that would attend so eventually, after a number of calls, we managed to get him into Vets Now in Brinkley Lane, Colchester late on Sunday evening. We made it very clear how unwell he was and that the drive (a good 45 minutes) would put the dog through a massive amount of pain to get there (he had stitches in his stomach and he was extremely weak and in pain generally from a terminal condition). On arrival he was initially triaged by a nurse in the car park who immediately seemed to question why he needed to be euthanised. It was obvious to anybody that he was already in extreme discomfort but there did not seem to be any urgency with the practice. We did not want to carry him into the waiting room as there were people waiting and we thought our dog would find it distressing with strangers around him so we opted to wait with him in the car until it was time to carry him into the surgery and retain a little bit of his dignity. We did not however realise how long that wait was going to be! Despite us making enquiries a number of times with their reception staff we were left waiting for around two hours in the car park with a dog in terrible pain and distress; dogs were walked in and out of the surgery but nobody came to help our dog. We made a further attempt to find out when our poor dog would be seen and was simply told that they didn't know when he would be seen and the receptionist looked at my wife as if it we were an inconvenience so we took the decision to leave as we were not convinced that he was going to be seen at all. At that point the dog was lying in the back of our car drooling profusely, shaking and struggling for breath. Ultimately our dog had to endure a painful return journey home and a twelve hour wait until another Vet attended our home and put our poor old boy to sleep the following day. The Vet that attended our home said that our dog would have been in accute pain over that period and that is just not acceptable from a supposed "caring profession". Quite frankly both Vets Now and the staff that were on duty on 17/04/22 should hang their heads in utter shame. My family are left now with memories not of the wonderful friend our Lab was but of how he suffered so much in the last hours of his life at the hands of what is the worst Vet's Practice I have ever dealt with.

AVOID THIS VET GROUP if you care about your dog. Like many…read moreothers negative reviews on here, I too have had an APPALLING EXPERIENCE with Goddard's. They put profits and £££ before the health and well-being of living-beings. Their level of NEGLIGENCE has been off the charts. They seemed to think my dog having internal bleeding was not worthy of immediate attention by a vet, and told me to monitor him and feed him bland foo - which is what you ONLY do when they have diarrhoea NOT internal bleeding issues! The issues were caused by their failure to notify me of the risks posed by Meloxidyl painkillers. They are now trying to scrub their hands of any fault. Because of this my dog carried on suffering for another 17+ hours and deteriorated in that time. Eventually a vet came on duty who could see he needed immediate medical attention via the images I emailed them. However now the you expect me to pay 4 figures for their appalling services.

OK, they are not bad vets. But they really do rack up the £££££. The stories of others and my own experience racking up huge bills in my opinion inappropriately - playing (I'm not saying deliberately) on peoples feelings for their pets mean that this is the last place that I would go to. That I've ended up there underlines what I mean - just be aware of what you are getting into.

It directed me to book online with the Brentwood location as we need Brooking up to date with one of his vaccinations as well as pet passport for pending business travel. They emailed us to inform us that they were switching us to the Upminster location as that was the one that had the correct vets to do these things. I called them to confirm as they requested and gave again all the information I filled online per their request. Confident we were booked that day for a 1:15pm appointment at the Upminster location. I should mention they emailed us this the night before and I called that morning. So we go and we arrive early 1:09pm and because of the current Covid restrictions we wait in car. I do tell my fiancé to call them. He's does and they at first have no recollection of our appointment but then find. They tell us to wait in car and they will have vet call us then they will come get Brooking from the car. Minutes roll by I see people coming and going. Someone who arrives at 1:20pm has their dog taken by 1:30 which was there appointment. It's now 1:50pm and I'm getting ticked. My guy rings them and just as a women who works there comes running up what's your name. We are parked right out front she passed us by asking other people first. We tell her and she says they have been trying to call us. Absolutely untrue when we've received calls whilst waiting. She says she'll try us again right now to answer and we confirm they have correct number. Minutes go by still no call and so we call her she finally puts us on hold for vet. This call is beyond ridiculous. The woman starts by saying why are you here. And then immediately cuts my guy off to ask a series of questions about Brooking. Mind you I went over this when I confirmed that morning via call we confirmed again when we arrived and now going threw yet again. All I can say about this place rude and bad customer service. They don't seem to know who you are or why you've brought your pet. Worst they don't seem to care. The vet seemed very unintelligent. She didn't convey that our pet would be in capable hands with them. After the call she tells us to come bring him to the door she will meet us. We sit there feeling very uncomfortable discussing should we leave our pet with her and cannot. She approaches the car and we tell her as much. I don't know what kinda operation these people are running but it isn't reassuring in such uncertain times. I don't recommend any of these locations of Veterinary offices. She also had said they couldn't do the pet passport any longer as now you do pet certificate 10days before your travel which is fine. This was why we were switched by Brentwood office to this location. She also repeated herself over and over on the phone. It got quite Frustrating. I said we would get later when closer to the business trip but still wanted vaccination he was due. We could of just stayed at Brentwood location as it was a 2pm appointment. This whole experience as a whole was just not on in any regard and I would never recommend this place and we are seeking a much better veterinarian for Brooking. In a few words UNPROFESSIONAL & INCONSIDERATE.
