We were given a warm invite, the staff took our temp, and showed us to our friends room and we made ourselves at home for a good gossip n catch up. My friend is bed bound but has a large window overlooking the pretty garden and has plenty of room for her belongings. The staff came in periodically to check everything was ok, offered us drinks and laughed and joked around with our friend with genuine friendship. Our friend told us she had attended a garden party earlier in the month which she particularly enjoyed, and there do seem to be regular events and classes. I took a star off as my friend wanted to go out in the sunshine in a wheelchair but the hoist was broken so we stayed inside. Plus parking is a nightmare...street metered a bit of a walk away.

Let me start by saying our whole family has come to appreciate all that Rita has done to put our…read moreminds at rest. Also. I can relate to most of the previous reviews and agree. Our family member went through many years of depression due to a loss of a spouse resulting in sitting in front of TV on a day basis, which previously was the most active individual in their age group. We found a large assisted living place that in the beginning and saw some improvement, however within 7 months it got worse than before she left home. I hated to wake up and look at my phone because I was getting messages of falls, emergency hospital visits, and the list goes on. So, the family started having long conference calls every weekend on what to do? I decided to come to LA for about 5 days and find a place. I got a list of referrals and visited consistently some places more than once trying to make myself feel this is the right one. One day before leaving empty handed, I contacted Connections who set up an appointment with Rita the next morning before heading back home. Right off when you walk up to the property it looks like it is residential and blends nicely in the neighborhood, i.e. not big ugly signs. Next, you are greeted with Rita's smile, I am thinking please help us. She calm and warm. Her property inside and out is nicely maintained, and it was not overwhelming. I felt this was right. The sign for me was there, Rita had a spot and after the evaluation said the first thing is to get her eating. And a little over a month she is eating and smiling again, OK she does have her moments, but that has always been there. Still look at my phone first thing, but no messages except good ones. We were all prepared for the end, and Rita along with her group have put our family member what looks to be another chapter.

It feels like a home with roommates rather than a care facility and from the daily activities to the fresh home cooked meals, they work very hard to provide a homey, caring environment. Every need is taken care of in a professional and kind manner from dressing to personal hygiene to getting in and out of bed. Special requests are catered for and I have never heard the word "no" come from the staff or owner. Making a decision for senior care is a difficult one, especially in cases of memory loss and the onset of dementia. Shalom Garden is a spotlessly clean, very professionally run, small care facility that has made it possible for me to sleep much better at night knowing that my Mom is receiving such a high level of care. Thank you Rita and Shalom Garden!

From the moment we met Dawna B., we knew we were in good hands - she was compassionate, professional, and walked us through every step with clarity and empathy. The entire team is attentive, warm, and truly cares about every resident's dignity and well-being. The staff consistently go above and beyond - they get to know each person individually, are responsive to needs and preferences, and always greet family and residents with a smile. My father's routine, grooming, meals, and engagement in activities have all been handled with genuine care. I'm so grateful to have found a community where my dad is happy, safe, and thriving. Thank you, CityView, for the exceptional care you provide!

If she were the administrator I would stay here forever. she has been my beacon of hope in the midst of this craziness and delusion. She has always had time to listen to my concerns, even my concerns about the facility, and those have have plentiful. She always seems to have the answers to the questions I have. If I have conflicts with the other residents, I always go to her for her wisdom and counsel. She keeps me informed about things I need to know about the facility and residents. She is by far the best resource this facility has, I hope she stays here forever

From the beginning we were very disappointed with the way the place was run. Our parent was bullied by another resident, and the management did not inform us and would not have, luckily we were told by other residents. The management dragged their feet and did very little to remedy the situation. Of course they did not want to ask the bullier to leave and lose that income. Very little attention paid to residents, very little response to family inquiries/complaints. The residence is badly in need of an overhaul. I hate to think what would happen in case of a fire or other emergency in case of evacuation. The so-called "afternoon tea" is leftover cake from the night before. In all the time my parent was there I met and talked to many residents and their families and no one said anything complimentary which makes me think the good reviews posted here are not genuine.

Review of Kennedy Care Center (Los Angeles)…read more My family had a disturbing experience at Kennedy Care Center involving my grandfather, who was sent there from Cedars-Sinai for short-term rehabilitation after a minor head injury. He was medically stable and walking when admitted, yet he was kept there for almost seven weeks against his clear wish to go home. A doctor's recommendation to stay in a facility is medical advice, not a legal order, and patients have the right to leave--even "against medical advice" (AMA). However, staff used "medical advice" as pressure to keep him there. The administrator tried to shame us for wanting to take him home, asking, "Why don't you care about medical advice?" instead of acknowledging that discharge is a patient right. During his stay, staff were rude and dismissive toward me. His health declined severely under their care: he entered walking, and by the time he finally got home, he was wheelchair-bound and too weak to stand. I hold a valid Power of Attorney for my grandfather, which Cedars-Sinai recognized without issue. Kennedy copied the POA but refused to honor it. Staff even assigned a "responsible party" to make decisions for him, claiming he lacked capacity without any proper assessment, which allowed them to override both his wishes and my legal authority. At one point, I attempted to take him home AMA, and staff refused and even threatened to call the police. Later, his doctor formally discharged him--I was present when the doctor completed the discharge in his office--but Kennedy still denied he was discharged and falsely claimed Adult Protective Services had blocked it. APS confirmed that wasn't true. This wasn't the first time. On a previous stay, Kennedy kept him nearly a month past his discharge date. From my experience, the delays appeared motivated by billing, not patient care. In my opinion, Kennedy Care Center showed disregard for patient rights, ignored a valid Power of Attorney, used intimidation tactics, and caused serious decline in my grandfather's health. No family should feel powerless in a place that's supposed to provide care and dignity. I cannot recommend this facility based on our experience.
