I came here spur of the moment because I was 3 weeks into a dip mani. Nancy was my technician and she was really kind, she noticed that the dip mani I had was pretty chunky and she suggested doing gel moving forward because it is less clunky. She cleaned my nails up really nicely, shaped them well and took care of the cuticles, and then asked if I wanted to polish them. She also wasn't pushy asking if I wanted to get extras or anything like that. It was truly a straightforward gel mani that didn't need all the extra sales pitch. She also was very accommodating and let me know her hours and she's a text or call away for an appointment. It's a small studio, with two technicians, two spa chairs (for pedicures), and two hand stations. It is also behind the restaurant Piazza, you have to walk through the Piazza patio to get there OR you have to go down the alley that is called Drury Lane (I believe). I never really get my nails done because the math always came down to it making more sense for me to just grab a bottle of polish and DIY at home. However, I had a pretty big wedding coming up and was so behind schedule so desperation called. Melody Nails came up as the best rated/most affordable after some research, and I was not disappointed at all! Melody Nails is a little confusing located behind Piazzo; you'll have to cut through the restaurant to get to it, but it's a cute hidden oasis kind of spot that's very well-kept. I called in to make a reservation in advance but you can also just shoot a text over. Nga/Nancy runs the place, and she is the absolute best. She is so incredibly sweet and good at what she does; she's efficient and detail-oriented. She'll give you her two cents and do her best to accommodate your tastes. I went for a simple gel paint to match my dress, and I LOVED how elegant it looked. Even the removal process was quite seamless. She made sure to put on a clear coat at the end to strengthen my nails while they recover from the chemicals. Cannot recommend this place enough! *** MY FAVORITE NAIL PLACE IN SD *** I want to start off by saying I only go for gel pedicures. I don't usually get a design, but when I do, they offer stickers, not hand-done designs. When I first went here, I felt very taken care of by Nancy. Even though she is usually the only one working, she was thorough with my pedicure. When I go to other salons, I usually feel rushed and pushed out as fast as possible. With that said, if you want to come, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Nancy has a lot of regular because of how great her service is and how great of a person she is to talk to :) The chances of her taking you in as a walk-in is slim. Also, if you're looking for complicated, acrylic designs, I also recommend going somewhere else. The shop is a little hard to find because it's located behind an Italian restaurant, but there are signs out on the sidewalk to help. Melody nails is the best nail salon you could ever go to!! Hands down!! Only two sisters work there, who are also the owners and they both do an incredible job. Best pedicure and gel manicures I have ever gotten. I have been going here for a few years now. This gel manicure was done by Nga. She always takes her time, and is such a perfectionist! I have never experienced such attention to detail before at a salon. I recommend making an appointment in advance. Pricing is also very reasonable, especially compared to other nail salons in the area. I also feel very safe here- it is clean, they do temperature/symptoms checks, wear masks and have up plexiglass dividers. I went for my first time the other day and got a little lost when getting there - make sure you walk through the Piazza restaurant and Melody is sitting right in the back. It's a cute little house with only a few seats, so if you're going, you need to 100% make an appointment. It's also CASH ONLY. This place is a hidden gem. My gel mani/normal pedi cost $45, which is absolutely unheard of in southern California. My nails came out amazing, and while you're there they take the time to make you look and feel the best you can be. I have being seeing Nancy at Melody Nails in LaJolla for over 23 years. I missed her and the great job she does during the recent quarantine. When I got to see her today I was so happy to see that they have been able to implement all of the required safety measures and then some. As you can see in my pictures they are documenting, doing Temperature checks and plexiglass screens are in place to protect both themselves and those that visit her shop. I am saddened to hear that there are still some that have visited the shop and have given her a hard time about enforcing the precautionary measures. Nancy as well as millions of other small businesses are simply trying to reopen in a safe manner that follows all required laws so that they can remain open, not only for their families livelihoods but so that we can enjoy the services they provide. Went for a celebration mani pedi for my daughter. Annie was pleasant and I relatively enjoyed my mani pedi. My daughter was not as fortunate. She got a rough manicure treatment. Her manicurist was not friendly, seemed to dislike her work, and I am pretty sure she was disparaging my daughter in her language. She ended up with red and sore cuticles, and she got a cut. This place has been here for 25 years, and I never noticed it til today! Really tiny, hidden place with great service. It's pretty cheap, given the fact it's in downtown La Jolla amidst all the upscale bougie boutiques and shops. $12 for a manicure, $15 for french. My French tips have never been more even, and I didn't leave with any air bubbles within the 4 layers they put on, which usually happens at other places. I didn't have cash on me (it's cash or check only), so they let me go get cash after they did my nails--so trusting! Good thing all the banks are just a block away. Hole in the wall place, which normally I am totally okay with. I only got a pedicure. Both ladies were nice but my lady yanked on my poor toes when she was cleaning them up and although I cried out in pain, she persisted, which was really irritating and very painful. My gel acrylic manicure turned out beautiful and the manicurist didn't put too much gel on my fingers so my original nails wouldn't get too damaged. If you are going there and don't know how to get there, GPS Aloha sushi. Melody nails is the little house right behind. It presents as a cute hole in the wall. Not a fancy place with massage chairs. It's a small place, some corners of it look a bit dusty and a few of the polishes on display are old, but my nail tech did a great job finding a similar color to the one I originally picked when she realized the one I chose wasn't the best quality. Got mani pedi. Got a bit of a negative vibe when I scheduled the appointment and almost called it off right then and there. Probably should have. Decided to give the benefit of the doubt & overall it was an okay experience. Gel nails looked nice but has already chipped hours later. Their polishes are pretty old/streaky. Definitely bring your own bottle! My pedicure has lots of places where polish is missing due to an old/ streaky application. Honestly disappointed, could have done that myself at home. They did take their time cleaning my cuticles but complained about it and seemed annoyed with my nail shape. They also cut my foot when filing my toes. Overall don't feel great about the money spent and probably won't go back. read more
