She created an open space for me to create my own motivation to play piano for myself and enjoy playing. I thought practicing was a chore but I realized in my 2nd year I just love piano. *Review of: Johnny Lightfoot and The Ultimate Songwriter's Tool Kit…read moreMy experience with Johnny Lightfoot of Lightfoot Productions has been nothing short of transformative, both as a bass student and as someone interested in songwriting. Before finding Johnny, I spent two years studying with three different bass teachers and tried numerous online learning programs. While all of these instructors were talented musicians and good people, none of them truly knew how to teach. I came away from those experiences having learned very little despite investing significant time and money. Everything changed when I found Johnny and his wife, Trisha. By the end of my very first one-hour lesson, I had learned more than I had in the previous two years combined. More importantly, I immediately recognized that Johnny possessed something I had not encountered before: the ability to teach. What sets Johnny apart is that he doesn't simply show students what to play--he teaches them how to learn. That distinction made all the difference for me. Having never played an instrument before, I had always wanted to learn bass but wasn't sure I could. After that first lesson, I knew I could succeed because Johnny had broken the learning process down into clear, understandable steps. Whether you're learning bass or guitar, Johnny's system is uniquely effective because it focuses on understanding rather than imitation. Instead of memorizing information that is easily forgotten, students become active participants in the learning process. As a result, they learn more, retain more, and gain the confidence to continue progressing on their own. I have never encountered another instructor who has simplified and organized the learning process as effectively as Johnny. He has a great ability to remove the mystery and intimidation that often surround learning an instrument and replace them with practical, easy-to-follow methods that produce real results. Finding Johnny was a turning point in my musical journey. If you're serious about learning bass, guitar, or songwriting, I wholeheartedly recommend both his instruction and his book, The Ultimate Songwriter's Tool Kit. They have changed the way I learn music and given me the confidence to pursue goals I once thought were out of reach.

They directed me to Dan Atkins (luthier), who I now call as my Guitar Doctor/Chiropractor. Because of the sense of trustworthiness from Gottschalk's, I not only took one guitar for repair, but all five of my vintage and new acoustic guitars! Dan did an amazing job in a short time assessing needs and adjusting the necks/action, fixing cracked headstock, replacing broken tuning keys, restringing, and replacing a broken pick-up jack with a new part. Dan was also genuine about what damage would cost more than the value of the guitar and what repairs were worthwhile, and his fee was reasonable and affordable. I highly recommend Gottschalk Music Center and Dan Atkins, Luthier/Guitar Chiropractor

I'm in Clovis frequently and needed a new tremolo cover for my guitar. I stopped by Gottschalk…read morebecause it was in close proximity to where I'm staying and more convenient to driving all the way up to Blackstone. I stopped in on Monday and they let me know that they didn't have the part I needed in stock but that their Madera store did. The worker called the Madera store while I was there and assured me it would be included in their delivery the next day at 2pm and that they would call me to let me know when it arrived. I never got a call. I called around 4pm to check and see if it had arrived. The worker let me know that the truck hadn't arrived yet but that he would call me when it did. I never got that call either. I called them again around 5pm and he let me know that the part hadn't been included in their delivery but that he would follow up and make sure it arrived with the next day's delivery around 4pm. He also said he would give me a call. You guessed it, that call never came. I followed up again and it was the same issue. Fast forward to today and I received a call around 10am that my tremolo plate was at the store and ready for pickup. I got there around 1pm only to discover that the tremolo plate was there however, there weren't any screws included for installation. Something I had specifically asked about when ordering the part. I figured, it's fine, I'll just head over to Ace Hardware and get what I need. I got the screws I needed and headed back to install it. Upon installation I discovered that the plate was warped beyond correction. As far as improvements you can make: transparency, communication and quality checking your products. I don't have time to go back to their store today and while I was there the worker let me know that I'd have to return it today or else they would have issue a check if I returned it afterwards. A check for $9... Like I said, I visit Clovis frequently and always travel with my instruments. I will no longer be frequenting Gottschalk. I'll make the drive to Blackstone for all of my equipment needs.
