I am a Cobb County teacher, and on a recent district digital learning day (with no students present), several colleagues and I chose to support a local business by having lunch at this Mellow Mushroom location. Out of many options, we intentionally chose Mellow Mushroom. I was unsure if I should do a review, because it's important to support small businesses, but this experience was one of the worst I have ever had. We have another teacher work day coming up and other Cobb County teachers need to be aware so they can avoid this location. When we arrived, the restaurant was understandably busy, and we noticed many other teachers from various Cobb County schools who were also likely on their lunch break. I completely understand that food service can be overwhelming during peak times -- my husband works in the restaurant industry, so I have a great deal of empathy for short staffing and stressful days. However, the experience we had with the woman working behind the counter was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. While placing our order at the bar, I casually commented that they were very busy. She immediately began venting about being short-staffed and running out of food. I responded with understanding and compassion, explaining that my husband works in the industry and that I know how tough it can be. She then asked if we were teachers. When we said yes, her tone shifted dramatically. In a rude and condescending manner, she told us to "do us a favor and CALL IN NEXT TIME to let us know you're all coming." One of my colleagues politely explained that we were from different schools across the district, not a single site. She responded dismissively and said it "didn't matter" and that they had run out of food because of "all you teachers." Trying to keep the interaction positive, I suggested that Cobb County's school calendar is publicly available and could be used to anticipate digital learning days and professional learning days when teachers may be out in the community. Her response was hostile and sarcastic: "I HAVE the calendar, but I don't have time to look at it. You need to call next time." I then attempted once more to reframe the situation positively, pointing out that the large turnout of teachers meant strong business for the restaurant. Instead of acknowledging that, she responded with another sarcastic and unpleasant remark. At that point, we decided to leave without ordering. We were genuinely shocked -- not because the restaurant was busy, but because paying customers were blamed, scolded, and spoken to so disrespectfully. I fully understand bad days. I understand staffing challenges. What I do not understand is being blamed as a customer and spoken to in such a hostile, unprofessional way after repeatedly showing patience and empathy. This was not a reflection of teachers doing anything wrong -- it was a failure in customer service and management preparedness. Unfortunately, because of this interaction, I will not return to this location, and I will be advising other Cobb County educators to avoid it as well, especially on teacher workdays. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. This could have been handled very differently, and it is disappointing that a restaurant we intentionally chose to support left such a negative impression. read more

Love this place, I order the small takeout pizza with extra sauce. It's always tasty, reasonably priced, and I feel great after eating it. They use "spring water crust" and healthier ingredients. The woman at the register was extremely rude to a group of teachers on the teacher work day prior to the 2025 holiday break. She was negative and condescending when informing the teachers that they NEED to call and let them know when there is a teacher work day because they ran out of plates, silverware, etc. She would not stop with the negativity and blame. As a professional, she should have never treated customers this way. It was highly unprofessional. I always liked this location, but myself and others who witnessed this experience will never return. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant in my entire life until this interaction with the staff at Mellow Mushroom on Shallowford Rd. read more

Before I move to Marietta I lived in East Cobb County and the Mellow Mushroom I ate at was the one on Johnson Ferry Road by myself I had the wedge salad and I had a calzone and I'm telling you the the food at the Mellow Mushroom well any Mellow Mushroom is outstanding absolutely phenomenal I know the owner that has a lot of Mellow Mushrooms around Georgia but this particular one that I went to the people were really really nice to me and that's a good thing because I have disabilities so sometimes when I go to a restaurant people don't understand what I'm talking about and some of the time they don't even ask you know but this Mellow Mushroom I had a great experience so if you want really good pizza or subs or calzones or salads go to Mellow Mushroom take your family this have a good time they have TVs so you can watch sports and have a full bar it's pretty good I rate Mellow Mushroom of five read more

The environment is very fun Tons of art, nice music and you must try the spinach artichoke dip if you are a fan! It Hass to be the best one I've ever had. It was about $23 and it was worth every penny. It was perfect. This is one of the best pizzas in town and it's unique with the slightly sweet & yeasty dough. We always get the large house salad with Esperanza dressing, it's an incredibly flavorful house made dressing - it's one of my favorite parts of the experience actually. The salad is very crisp and fresh. When I feel like mixing things up I get a small Margherita pizza, but it's not on the menu anymore. They're happy to make it, and their version is very special and worth a try. They have a new app - pretzel bites with beer cheese. It's really just their pizza dough, in bites, but don't let that stop you, they are delicious, especially with the tangy beer cheese. Everyone is friendly there, and it's a fun and cozy vibe. As a staple in the community, Mellow Mushroom has been a favorite for me since moving to ATL almost 24yrs ago. Consistently great pizza and other dishes. A good collection of both local, national, and international beer to go with it. The Shallowford location always seems to be staffed correctly and I always get a friendly hello and thank you walking by the pizza over from the cook and prep station. Ambiance is the same it's always been. This location could deserve a facelift, but certainly isn't bad. My only complaint is the cost. Prices have increased to certainly make them the most expensive option when compared to other option near by and because of that, we go there less frequently. read more

We love mellow mushroom pizza, but unfortunately last night we had the worst experience. Called and ordered at 4pm for a 5:15 pick up. When we arrived we were told they didn't have our order and there was no record of it. We were left with Panic of 4 hungry toddlers and no remorse from Mellow. Extremely disappointing that there was no accountability from Mellow. Beware if you order from this location, drive there when they tell you it will be ready you are taking a 50/50 chance they will actually have your order. read more

They've added liquor and expanded their menu as of last year, so there is NO reason not to be here every single week. I had Mellow Mushroom again and found the quality to be good (for Atlanta). The crust has a nice sourdough flavor and an appropriately chewy consistency. It's hard to screw up the cheese, though different places can have different mixes with their mozzarella. I don't think it's quite as good as, say, a Mid-Atlantic pizza (having had one in Delaware the other week, which was excellent), but they're a solid enough choice. read more

We like Mellow Mushroom for the food and variety of beer choices. With that said, this place was filthy. The amount of dirt on the floor was disgusting. We arrived at 5:30 so it wasn't after a long night. There is no possible way this place is being cleaned on a regular basis.s On top of that, service was subpar. We received our drinks. Then our food. Then we ordered another order of pretzel bites and drinks. The drinks arrived, but after 30 minutes no pretzel bites. The server asked if we were just hanging out. We go to MM almost weekly. Always great service and never a bad pizza. They always seem to be busy. A lot of too-go orders but we still get our order in a timely manner. They have a small dining area and sometimes we have to wait for a table but not unreasonably. The guys behind the counter always speak to you on the way out as you leave and they don't even know you. Beer so cold it might even have ice in it. A fun place to go enjoy sweet tea or good cold beer with a hot pizza . Employees treat you like they are glad you are there and just a customer. read more
