BE WARY OF THE NUMBER OF POSITIVE REVIEWS. Shortly after me and my husband's appointment I received a text from "Dr. Bender" asking about my experience and offering me 10% back of what I paid if I left a review. I left a google review and gave a total rating of 4 stars. I personally was unhappy with my experience and likely would have given 3 stars, but my husband had a positive experience so I felt like 4 stars was appropriate and fair. I received a follow-up text asking me to change my review to 5 stars with no acknowledgment of the actual review itself. This felt like a red flag to me, I'm not going to say it was better than it was, that defeats the purpose of a review. When I told them I wouldn't be changing it to 5 stars, they asked why I was dissatisfied, so I provided a more thorough explanation. I never received any response back, so I followed up asking if the 10% refund was contingent on if I gave a 5 star review, and they said YES! Mind you, they offered me the refund as a "Thank You for a review" not a "5 Star Review". However, not receiving a refund isn't what is bothering me. The fact that they are manipulating clients to boost their rating is shady and unethical. I originally wanted a CBD massage but there wasn't any available, so I opted to do a Swedish massage and I loved it. The massage itself was so relaxing and Christine did an amazing job. I liked how she asked me which areas to focus on and what my pressure preference is, which I really appreciate. Although the massage table was a little rocky, I thoroughly enjoyed the bed heater especially on a cold evening. The ambiance was pretty interesting- it's very minimalistic and modern. Mellow Massage is awesome! I happened to find them doing a search for a massage therapist closer to my home. I'm so glad I did! It's in my favorite strip mall on El Cajon Boulevard too! (Next door to the yummy vegan Jewish deli). The minimalist aesthetic inside their studio is a refreshing change to see for a massage place. Malcom is my massage therapist and he is amazing. He does great work and is a great teacher about why he recommends a certain technique for this situation or that situation. He plays the best music too. I got their subscription, so will pay less for my monthly massage than without it. I'm a huge proponent of going regularly to see your massage therapist. The massages are transferable to my hubs if I can't go one month, and that's amazing! I had a massage here before, and it was good, second time booking, but I rearranged my schedule to have childcare and work off to get this massage. They did not offer me any sort of credit for future, just said "don't worry, you wont be charged", yeah I would hope not! Canceling 20 minutes before my massage time is inappropriate. If you are ok with them canceling next minute, it might be worth it, but not for me. read more

I booked an appointment specifically for my sisters birthday; she just had a baby and she's been complaining about how her back has been hurting so I decided to get her a massage on her birthday so she can finally relax. DAY OF appointment, literally 4 hours before, I got a call saying there were no female workers coming in and if i wanted to reschedule or do later on in the day with a male worker. I'm just confused as to why you're able to book an appointment with someone specific , have it confirmed , and then get a call saying they're not making it in that day. So I've been having some left shoulder neck back pain for some time. When I would lift my left arm up I can feel a lot of tightness and just a lot of imbalance. I work out a lot and I do stretches but never seem to get better. So I decided to look into getting a massage and found mellow massage and decided to book the massage and cupping session. I've never had cupping done but I was pretty excited to try it out. My masseuse was James and he was incredibly welcoming, warm, and friendly. He asked me which type of cupping I would like and he explained the difference and I chose accordingly and he did an amazing job. He was able to focus on my problem areas and really educate me on the muscle structure and literally identified three intense knots that I had and I could feel it when he identified them. I'm not a huge deep tissue massage person because it's just a pretty intense massage and it's not necessarily for relaxation, but this deep tissue and cupping massage done by James was really great and catered to my threshold. By the end of the session I immediately felt a huge difference on my left side and I don't feel the pain that I've been feeling for a very long time. Cupping will leave intense bruising, but it is completely worth it because I literally do not feel pain and I'm pretty amazed. James did an amazing job, he needs a raise! read more

What I liked about the scheduling system online was that they send you a brief intake questionnaire to allow you to share what areas on your body you would like your masseuse to focus more on. I was met by My masseuse Kyna who was extremely kind and very accommodating. She had the softest hands and perfect pressure, and made sure I was comfortable through out the whole massage. Hands down the BEST massage I've ever had here in San Diego.. and I've had a LOT of massages. I've searched far and wide and I finally found the right place. I booked a 80 minute Swedish massage today with Gabriela and she was amazing. Walking in, it felt a secluded boxed room. Definitely not what I expected from the outside. I was greeted by Gabriela who walked me to my room, she offered me water and asked if I was ok with hot stones (if needed) and aromatherapy. The room was so simple and minimal but beautiful. She asked me what my problematic areas were and walked me through everything she was doing. I loved the background music because it wasn't like your basic quiet spa sounds but something a little more upbeat yet calming. Gabriela had the softest touch and got all my knots out without hurting me or making me feel like I was getting kneaded like a piece of dough. I left walking out feeling like a noodle which is a good thing. I felt so relaxed and so much better than when I had walked in which was pain on my left shoulder and a stiff neck. I went in today with a gift card to get a prenatal massage- I was booked with Christine. I specifically chose her as a therapist because it noted in her bio that she specialized in prenatals. I am aware that prenatal massages must take an extra level of skill because you are lying on your side instead of your stomach- however by just 10 minutes in, it honestly felt like the therapist was doing one for the first time. There was no point during my 80 minute massage where I felt that any of my muscles were actually being massaged. It felt like a lot of rubbing/friction and oil and occasional an elbow, but even then the elbow would be in painful areas, or several points bone-on-bone. The few times that I suggested some areas that needed attention she responded with "it's just hard to massage on your side"- it left me confused as towhy she was listed that she specialized in prenatal massage? My back, arms and legs do not feel like they got a professional massage and she didn't even wipe the oil off my body so I feel kind of gross now. I don't feel relaxed I just feel disappointed. 2 stars because the ambience was nice and the bed was comfortable. read more

I don't expect every massage therapist to be great, we are human after all and all have to start somewhere. After being referred by a friend to Kyna at Mellow Massage, my experience was not so great. For the price of the massages to be so expensive I expected a better quality massage which was given by a lady named Kyna. The massage I chose was a great choice but did not meet my expectation! After the 60 minute massage my body still felt tight & I felt like nothing was done! After reaching out to Kyna about my concerns, she advised that she does not go hard for Mellow Massage only for her sports medicine clients outside of Mellow. She also stated if I was unhappy not to come back which I felt was extremely rude to say to a client. Clients should be able to express how they feel, and even given some ideas on what massage to choose next time in the near future. This is a hidden gem. I've lived in the area a while and have visited (even worked reception) at a couple of local massage therapy places. When I booked an 80 minute restorative massage, I was not expecting to have the most thorough, therapeutic, customized care I've received in years. I have had chronic pain in my neck and shoulders for as long as I can remember, and only recently, after signing up for the membership (vs paying around the same amount at a well-known local chiropractor chain) I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere. The therapist I usually see, Robert, is excellent at customizing each session based on the pain I'm describing that day, and also gives really helpful advice about preventing pain with posture stretches and exercises. Everyone has always been polite and professional, as soon as I walk through the door. I prefer to use the online system to book appointments, but if I need to reschedule they've been very accommodating. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Firstly, my massage by Jackie was 5 STARS! 80 min deep tissue and she delivered! She listened to what I wanted and responded to what my body needed. She checked in now and then about how I was doing and if the pressure was OK. Secondly, I love having a place close to my home. I had a membership at a place in North Park that closed suddenly, so I'd really like to commit to this place. However, I must say that the table was extremely uncomfortable. I've had many massages in my life and not once have had one on a table so hard. It was more of a treatment table for short visits and not a true massage table meant for longer treatments. I've been to Mellow twice now, most recently yesterday & both times with Rob. I have my third massage booked for a couple weeks from now. This last time I booked a two hour because I've been extremely run down with work and my body is really feeling it. Rob reallllly knows what he's doing. He also explained certain things he was doing and which parts of my body were in the worst shape. He also gave me an exercise to do at home to help with some of this. The price of these massages is 10000% worth it. I've gotten massages for more with much less knowledge and care for the service from the therapist. Not to mention, it's barely a mile from my house.
