This business started life around six months ago (summer 09) as Clay Plate where they focussed on clay-oven based dishes like turkish pizza, Pide, Lahmacun and Meze dishes. They have recently re-branded as 'Ocakbasi', done away with the clay oven and replaced it with a Charcoal Grill. Although I was a big fan of their previous set-up, the re-brand is a very welcome change with a focus on grilled meat and kebab dishes. Décor is quaint, perhaps a little eccentric, with lampshades fashioned from old kitchen utensils, but the atmosphere is pleasant. Waitresses are way above benchmark, and me and my friends all have our favourites! Prices for an evening meal sit in the £10-£20 range but i've never been for dinner. You can usually pick up a decent lunch in here for less than a fiver including a drink. Definitely recommended for Edgware locals and visitors alike. Do it.

Edgware's best little secret…read more I've been to many far more expensive restaurants and their food does not come close to the quality and taste of their produce. - The chef appears to love cooking, and you can see how he lovingly prepares and cooks his food at the grill, and this comes through in the excellent taste. The waitresses are always friendly, and if they don't have it on the menu, they will often make it upon request, nothing seems to much trouble. - Also they provide lots of super extras, plenty of bread, salad and baclavas. The value is super also, you will be hard pressed to spend more than £30 per couple and can easily do much less. Why did it not get 5 stars. - The snob in me comes out here. - The decor and fittings detracts from the experience. - Unfortunately this can make you feel you are eating in a high street kebab shop. - I have learned to look past this and have had many many thoroughly enjoyable evenings there, but I can see how this affects others.

Turkish food, OM NOM NOM!…read more Went here on a Sunday, at around abouts 3pm. It was darn quiet, but then again it was around 3pm, normally they get busy at about 6pm. But this considering the waiters were very very friendly. The food was really good, we had a Cold Meze and a Hot Meze as a starter, both were amazing! I had the Mix Sis, it was really nice, it tasted so amazing! This is a really good place, I will be here again for my next Turkish experience!

A friend and I meet for dinner every 6 weeks or so and our latest meal was here…read more The waitress appeared to be highly disapproving of our inability to pronounce the dishes correctly and I'm afraid it went down hill from there. My falafel (starter) was probably the worst I have had and the initial taste was that of fish. I can only assume it had been cooked in the same oil as my friends calamari had been. He was unimpressed with his starter as well - greasy and over cooked were his comments. The mains well I went for the lamb shish whilst my friend opted for a sort of lamb casserole. Well the lamb I received was dry, full of gristle and tasteless. This was served with some salad and overcooked rice. My friend, I think got one small piece of lamb in his casserole as well as the same over cooked rice. After this we decided to give desserts a miss and went for coffee for myself and a mint tea for my friend. My coffee was hot but not tasting of very much whereas my friend's mint tea was a tall glass beaker of hot water with about five or six small mint leaves three of which had black patches. Frankly this was not worth the £40+ bill and we did consider refusing to pay the full price - as is our legal right. However we decided simply not to leave a tip and vowed not to return.

Then again on the following day, bringing additional family, too. The food is fantastic - cooked over hot coals in the front of the restaurant- and the the staff is very friendly. I went here for mid week lunch with a friend from work…read more They had a lunchtime special on the menu, covering all the dishes that I normally go for, so that was all good :) It was a starter and a main for £10.95. For starters, warm bread, hummus and cacik. Both were yummy. Really liked them. For mains, my friend went for a lamb kebab and chips and said it was really good and it was a massive portion. I had my good old favourite whenever I go to a Turkish - Chicken shish - and it was good enough. Service was good, they left us be to chat once we had finished our food and I didn't think that they were trying to boot us out of the door, which was quite nice. The toilets to the back are clean and interestingly enough had Turkish music piping through the speakers in the loo! They do a take away service here too. I will be back for lunch again in the near future. It was of a god standard and the staff were good too.

Just over the road from my flat and with the electricity out across the block…read more I came over with a friend Glad I did. The food was delicious. The prices are very reasonable for Golders Green. The star dish was the flavorful chicken liver starter. Just a tad too easy on the salt It's ideal for families and meat lovers with the on-site grilling. Friendly servers, easy on the pocket and a authentic experience. Will definitely return.

3.5--will finish review in full later, but in the mean time, went on a quite snowy night when…read morepeople weren't venturing out so we were one of 2 tables booked in the place, but apparently on a regular night it's packed. They are known for their open fire charcoal grill, and perhaps it's a bit unfair that I didn't have something from the grill, but here are my two cents on the mezze, etc. We started with the mixed mezze plate, which comes with 2 dolmas, hummus, tomato/eggplant spread, tomatoey tabbouleh, taramasala (sp?), 3 types of yogurts (spinach, tzaziki, and another), and tomato-stewed white beans. The hummus and various yogurt dips were outstanding--excellent flavors and textures. The beans and tomato tabbouleh were quite nice as well. For din my companion went for the grilled quail, which comes with 2 quail, roasted tomatoes and chili peppers, and a nicely sized salad w/ grated carrots and beets. I didn't sample, but he cleaned all bones that were to be cleaned, so suffice it to say, he ate well. I ordered more mezze for din b/c we had had a heavier lunch (dim sum and then an orgiastic chocolate feast at hampstead creperie!), and I think that this was my mistake. I ordered regular tabbouleh, but it was strangely sweet--I think there were peppers in it or something, but it was actually unpleasant. The hummus (round 2) was still strong and mushroom/mint salad was decent--needed flavor, despite the promised mint. Accidentally ordered more of the eggplant/tomato, which was also a mistake--not that it was bad...I just didn't need that much oil! Overall, I do think that this is a good restaurant, they have some kinks in service to work out, but it's really the grill that one should go for--I'd take veggies elsewhere (although there are more vegetarian options than it first appears when you walk in and are greeted by a meat case).
