Also, it looked very sparse and I would've chosen another flower shop if I knew this was going to be over $100 - the price does not match what was delivered. I left a message about this error, and I received a call back the next morning saying that if I really wanted blue, then I probably should have called in advance to make sure there's blue in the flower. I'm giving one star because the manager did not offer any refund and it felt like the fault was on me for not calling in advance. Rather, I think as customers and buyers, in principle, we have NO obligation to triple check just to make sure you get the colors right - the color is in the name of the product, in the picture you advertise, and perhaps anticipated in the price that you get it right. It is the seller's obligation to alert the buyer if this product delivered would be different from the picture. I understand the human error for not putting blue flowers, and if it is indeed a human error as the manager indicated on the call back, then the customer shouldn't bear the price. The manager should offer refund for not meeting expectations.

The product I ordered was offered in Small @ $44.99, Medium @ $54.99, Large @ $64.99 and Luxury Grade @ $74.99. I ordered the Luxury Grade option but only received the Small option. I'm giving them 2 stars simply because they did deliver on time even if they didn't deliver what I ordered. It was impossible to reach AVAS Flowers and I got a crazy response from LA Floral when I asked that either they send the Luxury Grade version or refund the $30 difference. This is the response I got from them. "The problem is they mis-represent the arrangement based on price. Valentine's week flowers are even higher than normal week -- meaning the farms and suppliers raise the prices, which means we have to raise the price. We did receive $74.99, from which we had to subtract delivery fee, giving us only $67.00 to pay for the flowers/greenery, the vase, design time and Ava's receives 30% of the price we received. Also, the order we received from Ava's did have a recipe but it also plainly stated "Similar," meaning we have to abide by the current pricing. The order we designed was following the recipe but filled only to the retail value." When I replied back that their profit margin is not my issue. I paid for an item based on the size I selected. If I had wanted the small version I would have ordered at the lower price. Needless to say they refused to refund the difference. Their policy is that it doesn't matter what you ordered. They will determine how to fulfill the order based on what they determine to be the retail value. I can't speak for how they do business in person but as for ordering online thru a 3rd party that is fulfilled by them I can say that I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda ordered them in advance, but I'm a last minute kind of guy. Santee Floral popped up on my Yelp search and I decided to give it a whirl. After my experience there, I'm wondering why I haven't gone there before for all of my floral needs. There were several pre-made arrangements in the sliding glass cooler that were very beautiful, but not exactly what I was looking for. Patty, the owner, offered to whip up a quick arrangement for me if I had time to wait. I asked for a dozen roses. I not only received a beautiful arrangement of flowers, I got an education. Swiftly grooming the roses, you could tell this was a labor of love, something she had done before and done well. While she whisked away the stems and thorns, Patty explained where the roses came from (Ecuador), tips for arrangement and care, and other botanical points of interests. She was professional, friendly, and created a beautiful vase full of roses for my anniversary. You have choices when it comes to flowers. FTD or Teleflora are the stand-bys, but you don't get the experience of the floral shop. They also tend to be very expensive. Proflowers or 1800Flowers, but you won't get the arrangement - they just come in a box and you have to fix them yourself. Trader Joes for 5 bucks, but you're buying 5 dollar flowers. A dozen pink and red roses plus a vase for 65 is a great deal. FTD easily charges you 75 + service fees + delivery + tax. I'll continue to use Santee Floral for my special occasions in the future. You can't put a price on sterling customer service, an outstanding product, and an educational experience.

I gave the florist (a woman, I wish I'd asked her name so I could praise her specifically here-- it was 4/25 in the morning for what it's worth...) a very general set of ideas of what I was looking for and my aesthetic; shapes, colors, and then some stuff about the girl who was getting them. At that point, I had to put my trust in her hands to make the bouquet. It was really, really gorgeous. It surprised the girl and made her day-- and they were very precise on the timing of getting it to her office to ensure she'd get them before she left for the day. It was absolutely perfect. I would (and will) be calling them back again, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the area.
