I had never been for acupuncture therapy, and I'm not comfortable with needles. In high school, I couldn't even puncture my own finger tip to study a blood drop in biology. So I was hesitant to try this therapy out. I have a very old knee injury to my left knee. It has been twice the size of my right knee for 24 years. My sports injury doctor really was at a loss, so he sent me to see Melanie and told me she was fabulous. I trust this man, so I called and made an appointment. I came for my first appointment and Melanie made me feel very comfortable and at ease with everything. She explained what she was going to do and doing every step of the way. I stared at the ceiling because I didn't want to watch the needles going in. I didn't even feel the first couple and barely felt the 3rd, after that it was very easy. After my first session I was very relaxed, so relaxed that I wanted to take a nap. I never nap. She explained to me that since this injury was so old, it was going to take a while and several sessions to see a difference. What I noticed after the first session was an immediate lessening of pain. What I noticed after a few sessions was that my swelling had started to go down. It's amazing, I can actually wear high heels again, and I have not been able to in a long long time. On one of my sessions I came in and my neck was painful, so I laid face down and had my neck worked on too, that was awesome. I'm a long way from healed, but I am way ahead of where I was just a month ago. I really look forward to my sessions and time with Melanie. She and I have the most amazing deep conversations. I have had accupuncture from several different accupunturists but, never really felt any better/different afterwards. I tend to carry my stress in my shoulders and neck area. I used to get regular massages however, the next day I'd be tight again. Tonight will be my third visit with Melanie and I can't wait. I've known Melanie for over a year now. She would come over to the coffee shop next door and I had the pleasure of making her usual beverage. Then out of nowhere, I suffered total kidney failure, resulting in compartment syndrome. After surgery and dialysis everything appeared normal, except the random swelling and horrible pain in both feet. I was diagnosed with CRPS, for which there is no cure and little to no medical information about causes or treatment. After my first treatment, I was able to reduce the amount of medication by roughly a third. Given that Lyrica and Cymbalta were unable to do this feat with 3-4 months of taking them. I think acupuncture is a wiser option. So I'm going back in for more treatments. Even though multiple pain doctors would rather me take 80mg OxyContin twice a day while using a Duragesic patch. Overall, I'd like to have the epically nice lady poke me and give me great advice that excludes narcotic medications. I can't think of a better person whom I trust more than Melanie. read more

I have received acupuncture treatments over the last decade. While my overall experience has been positive with other providers, Melanie is by far the best acupuncturist I have ever seen. She is well educated & holds a degree from a prestigious institute. She is also passionate about Chinese medicine and truly loves what she does. I first went to Melanie 3 days after arthroscopic hip surgery. As you can imagine, there aren't very many healing modalities that are appropriate immediately after surgery. I've have recently begun receiving acupuncture treatments from this professional. I responded immediately to her treatments and plan to continue with her services. I have only gone about 6 times and at this point, I ask for a standing appointment. She has excellent technique and really is concerned about why you are visiting her and how she can best restore your health.
