Passing thru from Alabama to Chicago. First time in a Meijer Store. Walked in and asked the greeter where the restroom was. Her answer was "you just went passed it!!! ". I asked "where??" Sarcastically she then said "out there, you walked past it!!!" Not exactly a warm welcome to your store. Maybe the regular shoppers know the restroom is before you enter, but I didn't. The store is laid out a little differently than my regular Aldi, but the checkout line is speedy. Some Aldi's you get a cashier who makes it a sport out of tossing your items back in the cart, but here they are respectful of your purchase and hard-earned dollar. They have what you need for holiday decor, Christmas trees, walk hangings, even festive front porch/door items. Great prices and great produce and other items. Love the value! The exit of the parking lot is a bit annoying, allowing you to turn right only. Not bad for the only minor downside (and truth be told that's probably the city planner's good not Aldi's) read more

Would give zero stars. I work for a living and came to get some lunch meat and cheese. Well they didn't put any cheese on their pre packaged cooler and I asked someone for some sliced cheese. I love Meijer but I'm disappointed with the weak security response tonight. This guy refused to put in a mask after being asked twice by the security officer and then refused to leave. Then the officer let him go walk all over the store. The security officer acted like he couldn't do anything about it. Pharmacy personnel always less than personal. Last week was worse. Shirella told me to go take a seat, 2x, after I very kindly asked to recheck a price. Told me it would take extra time, which is fine, but obviously unhappy with the task. Giving me stern orders of what to do in the meantime was unnecessary. She was rude. I walked to the side and kept my mouth shut, no arguement. The price ended up being lower as I suspected but she was very put out. Will have to go back to CVS. read more

This particular Meijer is a lovely place to shop. They have EV Gas Pumps, a large parking lot, a mailbox, a pharmacy, a supermarket, a small coffee shop, a small nail salon, as well as a barber shop. The prices are pretty reasonable. The staff is always friendly. read more

Visited Meijer to pick up a perscription and decided to do minor grocery shopping @1:30p.m.,what a mistake waited in the checkout line for 30 minutes due to lack of open cashiers or bagging personnel. Why have 20+ check out stations and only 3 open very disappointing and will never shop like that again.I now know why all the self check out stations were full and backed up too. I go here multiple times a week simply due to proximity to my home. Honestly, their prices are decent (only reason they get 3 stars) but literally every SINGLE time I go, there is at least one thing on my list that is out of stock. Want shredded lettuce for your tacos? Too bad, look elsewhere cuz they've only had that in stock ONCE in the last 6-7 months. Need half and half for your coffee? Good luck, it's a 50/50 chance, at best, they'll have any brand of half & half in stock on any day. Also, just a recommendation to the store itself, besides trying to keep things IN stock... Since Merrillville's 73rd and Taft Strack & Van Til and the 93rd and Taft Ultra both closed, this Meijer doesn't seem to stock their shelves frequently enough to keep up with the higher demand. It doesn't matter what day of the week or what time of day we shop. We've tried early morning, mid day, evening, weekend, weekday. We still find empty shelves and very limited selection. Maybe our timing is off, but when our shopping list is only half fulfilled I don't think it's just a matter of timing. Friends and neighbors tell us they're also experiencing the same problem. We sometimes get good results when we find an employee who can help, but lately the employees are hard to find and have been decidedly unhelpful. Hey Merrillville Meijer - how about hiring more stockers to keep groceries on the shelves? Basic things like milk, eggs, butter, bread, produce, canned goods and such should be monitored and restocked regularly. And if you advertise a sale on these items, maybe you should order more so you don't run out in the first few hours? Meijer continues to raise their prices even though the surrounding area does not merit such increases. The Merrillville area does not have a high income per capita population, but Meijer seems to think it does. Their prices are about 15% higher than the near by competitors (prices increased by about 10% Jan 1, 2020). I stopped in New Year day to buy dog food and found the price had jumped up 94 cents for the bag (from 10 days ago). Meanwhile, the competitor down the street (about 5 min drive) has the same food for $2.81 cheaper. The competitor will be getting my business as they aren't trying to drain my pockets like Meijer is. read more

Poor customer service. My wife bought two gallons of milk at Meijer this past Friday (today is Monday) and they were both bad. It was an organic brand and was a bit more expensive than the typical milk. We live in Laporte, she bought the milk at the Michigan City store, and I work in Merrillville. Saturday when I discovered the milk was bad I called the Michigan City store to tell them about it and to see if I could get a refund. They said no problem, gave their apologies, took the brand and expiration date from the milks, then said to come in and they'd refund the money. I asked if they wanted me to bring the milk in or what and they said no not to worry about it. Ok great. Today though I ran over on my break to the store in Merrillville on Rt 30. I gave the girl my receipt and explained the situation. She immediately started complaining about this was gonna mess things up. I asked her what she meant and she said that I needed to have the milk with me and how if I bought it at another store that I should be taking it back to that same store. I told her they had told me not to worry about bringing the milk back and that I didn't see the problem with coming to this location. She kept complaining then said that "technically they have to take it" but that it would mess it all up. Um Ok. I just stood there silent from then on and listened to her snort and sign while I waited for the refund. For some reason only one milk was coming off and she did give me the refund. But she said she could not get the 2nd milk to refund. She she grumpily stopped venting on the register keypad and called someone else over to help. She then told me to attend aside and started helping the next customer. A few minutes later another girl came up and asked who was trying to refund the milk. It was me and one other guy there - the guy being held by the first cashier I dealt with. But I said it was me and told her the other girl still had my receipt. She snapped at me and said "What???" So I told her again and she got the receipt. She started punching something in and I tried explaining the situation to her. She cut me off and said in the future if I bought the milk in Michigan City that because the milk was so expensive I would need to return it took Michigan City. I told her they said it wouldn't be a problem because Meijer was Meijer and that it's a common thing to take items to different store locations. She said that because the milk was more expensive that wasn't the case with this store. And that I needed to bring the milk back. I told her Michigan City said not to worry about it. She started getting snotty, gave me the refund, slammed her register drawer shut, and said that's not how they do it here. But then I was bugged and told her I'd she wants I can dig the milk out of the trash and bring it in. She had already started walking off on me after she slammed the drawer but slowed down and said they would need the actual milk not the containers. Then kept walking. I told her the milk was still in the containers and I could bring it back. But she just kept walking and that was it. Super freaking rude! I already had enough BS going on for a Monday morning, I didn't need your BS too. Be aware when you go in to this store. I only have them two stars because I did get my refund. Otherwise I would have given them one star. Also, nowhere on your return policy posted behind the cashiers does it say anything about needing to return the food item(s) or needing to go to the same store where it was purchased. Retraining and major attitude adjustment class is definitely in order. Just ridiculous. read more

I will start with Meijer greeters. They are always very friendly when you enter or exit the store. They are very prompt if you ask for help in a department. The store is clean including the restrooms. The cashiers are friendly and very helpful. Their produce is the best around. It may be pricier than other surrounding markets but it's worth every bit of it. I've never had to deal with management so I can't really comment on them. The gas station is one of my favorites around. Overall Meijer on US 30 in Merrillville gets 5 stars from me. read more

The Deli is a joke for a lack of a better word. The average wait time is 25 minutes as the employees give attitude and walk like there is glue on the bottom of their shoes. They put a little line divider (there way of fixing it the problem) but it makes no difference. If there are 3 workers only one is helping with the line and the other two are cleaning up aka avoiding the customers. It doesn't matter if you call the manger as nothing will be done. read more

I experienced poor customer service on (Meijer route 30) Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Deli Department between the hours 3-3:30pm. The Deli dept is expected to be busy on a Saturday , ticket machine empty, lines wrapped around, and a several orders given. As , I waited in line for 10-15 minutes as usual an employee will start calling out the numbers on the screen no one responded( to the number she was calling out) . Her response: I guess everyone has been served. I stated I have number 65 , she totally ignored me, I said it again, still no response. She skipped my number and place another number on the board? I said again excuse me , have the number above as mention. Her response: very angrily and raised her voice: I know you don't have that number , how can I help you! I shared with her but you skip me?,She said abruptly: I know that, how can I help you! I told her you cannot help me. At that point I sought out the Manager and I explained the African American , chubby lady with the glasses ( with the front missing tooth) was very rude,bad manners, and poor customer service that I was offended and I didn't appreciate her brass attitude. The manager apologized and stated she had problems with her about the same thing? As I was speaking to the manager I overheard by the employee who was on the other side said: oh she must be telling on me? The nerve but I continue my conversation with the manager and she explained she will take care of it and asked if I still need service. I appreciated her effort but that employee needs coaching or discharged no sense or urgency and bad bad bad customer service. The is a bigger lady that works behind the counter that is a B. I was there 3 times today to gets meds I need to take every day and was told 3 different stories when basically they didn't have them. I pulled all my scripts and I'm going somewhere else. I called and complained for the 3rd time. Nothing will be done. Horriable store.
