Working at Rivertown with free WiFi!
    Edd E.

Rivertown Meijers has its pros and cons really. Pros: coworking space with free WiFi. Built in coffee shop and wood oven pizza. Really great pizza by the way. Usually pretty clean and can get help if needed by workers roaming around. A lot of local businesses have product here. Cons: pricier than your average grocery store. Pizza spot is never open when it's supposed to be. Coworking space closes at 7PM.

It's still a long drive to get to a Meijer but downtown has a Mini-Meijer

Nice Mini-Meijer (read: grocery only) that gives a fancy grocery shopping experience without the wallet bludgeoning prices of Whole Foods. We've now normalized self-checkout to the point where that's all they have here. I don't mind it much; I almost always self-checkout anyway but funny how there was never any kind of price drop related to the money companies save with this. I always forget how right downtown this market is. It's practically in the shadow of the Ren Cen. I always seem to go too far east and have to double back down Jefferson. Parking is definitely an issue here. I generally won't even try to go to Rivertown Market before 8 pm as the parking lot is so mobbed up. Good luck finding an empty spot! There's a pretty sorry looking park directly adjacent to the lot I wish they would annex. I almost can't even believe I'm arguing for eliminating a park for a parking lot but it's small and I suspect not too heavily used. The Riverwalk and the Dequindre Cut are nearby and a thousand times nicer. There's also a raggedy looking little field on the other side of RM that would be great for badly needed additional parking. There's all the essentials here and a few interesting things I haven't noticed at a typical Meijer - way more flavors of Kombucha than I'm used to seeing. I bought a three pound bag of crawfish here last month. I don't recall ever seeing mudbugs for sale at a Meijer before and I've never boiled them on my own before... and I still haven't. I got em sitting in the deep freeze trying to convince myself I won't screw it up. Watching a couple YouTube videos should help me manage it. It usually does. I still wish we had a gargantuan regular Meijer somewhere closer to downtown than the outskirts of the 138 square mile city of Detroit but the mini-Meijer will do if I hit it shortly before their last call.

The absolute best market in the area. The staff is great. They make sure you get everything you need. I surely appreciate a concern a had last time was addressed. I questioned why they didn't have an item, today I noticed it was the shelf!!! Paying attention to a customers needs.... A huge BONUS for me.

It used to have a produce section, right in front of the front windows, a space now occupied by stacks and stacks of La Croix cases. I'm no fan of La Croix and I eat an apple and/or a banana most days but I can imagine how the current arrangement is working out better for their bottom line. They used to have kombucha on tap, something that had been sitting unused for awhile and was just recently removed. That was just laughably hipster to me. I'll drink kombucha in the bottle sometimes, which MM still has in their fridge, and I just had to wonder, do you really need kombucha on tap? Obviously, it turns out you don't. This market is on the small side, just packed with stuff, and they stay open late. It's what I imagine a New York City bodega is like. They have more energy drink selections than anyone should need and a very Detroit amount of blunt wraps behind the register. Backwoods and the like take up most of that wall. MM has the same mediocre prepackaged sandwiches, wraps and pasta salads as Marcus Market and I feel like I should know the name of the company that puts them together by now. For convenience sake I often grab em as sustenance on the way to work. They're nothing special but they get me through the day. Midtown Market has nowhere near the floor space, selection or general charm of Marcus, though, and it actually felt disloyal to use the abbreviation MM to refer to Midtown Market earlier in this review. They're friendly enough here, but me and the Marcus crew go way back and again, no cat is hurting this young upstart here. The thing is, Midtown Market is a little less out of my way going into work and that crucial five minutes can make me late, so I often find myself in here. Midtown Market ain't bad for what it is, they have a few staples here but if you're looking for more of a full on grocery store (with freshly made smoothies and tacos during certain hours) try the neighborhood OG market like 3 blocks away.

So once cleaned now about 7am I put my chitterling pot on let heat for a minute then put in my chitterling and an 2hrs into cooking I added my red onion red pepper green pepper salt/ black pepper put the top on and let it cook for almost 4hrs W gradually checking on it in between time Each time I checked on them they was cooking as they should but now here it is down to the last hr of cooking I go to check on the and the bubbles are bubbling like hot lava (yes! Hot lav) so now at this point it's only 3 1/2 hrs when I usually cook them for four hours sometimes five.. so my reaction was that dang freezer burn and heck no, not these $30 chitterling they was sooooo slimy I couldn't believe it! This has nvr happened ever! I just thought that I would share my story Because when I went up to the market to tell my story and to see if they could give me some type of credit due to the fact of me spending $120on chitterlings they didn't even want to hear my story nor did they want to see the video that I recorded or the receipts And just plainly told me there's nothing they can do about it once there open that's it This was a market that I go weekly/monthly Im so disappointing how they handle my situation Sadly today was and will be my last time shopping here We're not talking about $5 or $10 being a waste, we're talking about $120 being a waste For future please do not purchase your chitterlings from this market you might get a bad batch! And it's nothing they can do about it Btw this was the Manager words

Indian spices/prepackaged foods, convenience store goods, some staple groceries…read more Newish location for this oldish area favorite (on Wayne campus, just north of Warren at Anthony Wayne - parking can be a pain in the ass during class hours). A place to find whole and ground spices prevalent in Indian cuisine, in addition to ghee, many oil, rice, and flour options, and a large variety of prepackaged and quick-to-prepare Indian stovetop kits (I don't really care for these items, when making your own homemade dinners takes less than an hour in most cases - but if really pinched for time and craving certain flavors, have at it). You can also get convenience store dependables (junk foods, pantry tins/jars, plastic cups/cutlery, etc), and eggs, milk, butter, and a few kinds of produce in the back (i noticed okra). Where Meijers failed me (in my hunt for mustard seed oil and chick pea flour), Little Asia Mart saved the day. Worth taking a peek around.

However, they do have. Very limited stock and the prices keep on increasing as months are passing by. The staff is friendly and helps you navigate through. The place is a bit too small to hold up more than what it already does. Vegetables are normally fresh and I have never had any issues with the things I have bought here. But a gallon of milk $4.95 is a bit too much considering university foods sell it for $3.95 which is about 0.5 mile away. They do have other convenience store items here as well.
