Great for families and friends who want to share a few dishes in a casual (think: fast food) environment. It's certainly not going to win any decor or ambience prizes, but I like the family-friendly atmosphere and it hit the spot when I needed lunch in a short time frame. Order and pay at the counter and then take your wooden spoon table number and set up at one of the many tables. I shared two mixed plates of mezze (felafel, kibbeh and other fried morsels), salads (super fresh fattoush and tabbouli) and dips with Miss 3 and my favourite +1. The mix and match approach to this style of dining is great when you're trying to please varying tastes and appetites. I could have lived with less of the fried pastry-like mezze and more of the felafel so next time will specify which mezze we want rather than leaving the selection to the server. I'll also be trying out the lebanese pizzas. Starting at a mere $1 and constantly being made in full-view of the floor. Pro tip: Grab a bottle of hot sauce from the water/cutlery

Yummy Middle Eastern vegetarian food on a strip that's full of meat-heavy kebab shops. Delicious…read morefood, cheap prices, very friendly owners/managers. And it's totally authentic (you're in Campbellfield, after all.) We've been here a few times and have gotten a variety of dishes. Staff knows what "vegan" means and will be sure to make your food without dairy or egg as long as you specify it when ordering. We've tried a few things on the menu, but I like the vegetarian plate, which comes with 7 falafel balls, hummus, and foul, as well as some pickled turnips. (Foul is a dish made from fava beans, chickpeas, and lemon oil -- an interesting flavour that I wasn't used to before I started eating foul. I like it, but maybe it's a bit of an acquired taste.) Their falafels are made using "grandma's recipe" and are light, fluffy, and fresh-tasting -- not heavy or greasy like from a kebab shop. Very nice falafels. The vegetarian plate will set you back $12 and is heaps of food. Cheeeeeeap. You can also get a falafel wrap for a mere $5, or a more exotic Iraqi falafel wrap that comes with Iraqi bread and pickled-mango "ambah" sauce. (I haven't tried this yet.) My boyfriend always gets the hummus fatteh (called "tesiyeh" in some countries, like Syria) -- which is a hummus-yogurt type of dish. Unfortunately, they don't have a dairy-free version of this, so it's not vegan. Definitely stop in at Falafel Moudy if you are hungry and want some excellent vegetarian Middle Eastern food on the cheap!

Last week there were 6 of us at a friend's house having a New Year catch-up drink... It was supposed to be simply an after work thing - it was a weekday, work next day - but it suddenly got to 8.30pm and we were all still there... all getting kinda pretty hungry... We decided it'd be a good idea to grab some decent take-away Turkish pizzas, so they suggested a call to KEBAB HOUSE on Pascoe Vale Road in Glenroy.. Honestly, I must'v rung 10 times - no answer... I said to the guys "hey, they're closed.. must be on break.." "no" they said "they're never closed.." "okay, let me drive over.. if they are closed I'll grab something else.." Got there at exactly 9pm - they were open - many of their tables were still full - they're s'posed to close at 9.30.. I didn't say anything about the phone - no point really.. I'd like to order 8 pizzas - 2 each of fetta, potato, lamb and onion, lamb and capsicum - "Sorry, oven not working.." said the girl - "No, we've run out of pizza bases.." said the guy. Okay, I'll have 8 kebabs - "We've only got felafel or chicken left.." said the girl - "All the lamb and kofta gone.." said the guy. Okay, I'll take half and half - "Only enough felafel for 2.." says the girl - "We didn't know we'd be busy.." says the guy. No probs, I say, and wait... Well, I reckon I waited 45 minutes, maybe longer - I must have, because they were almost closed up when I walked outta there... I was back at the house in 5 mins... they all thought I'd got lost... they were really starving by this time... I unwrapped the kebabs - sliced them into thirds - placed them on a platter - popped them on the table.. 1. the Turkish bread was thick, stodgy, tasteless and stale - not grilled, not toasted... 2. the chicken, although tender and nicely spiced, was stone cold... 3. the felafels were 'dry as'... 4. the salad was sparse and soggy - no onion, no seasoning... 5. the garlic sauce could hardly be tasted - just a faint sourness like off yoghurt - very unpleasant... They said "you went to the wrong place, you silly bugger.." "No, I went where you told me.." "Well.." they decided.. "they must'v sold to some-one green.. no doubt about that.." Anyway I paid $77 for those kebab rolls - I had $75 cash on me - No, had to do an eftpos - Thank God I had my wallet... I won't be going back - Sorry - They'll have to find another place to get Turkish pizzas... Visited on Tuesday 12 Jan 2016 for take-away dinner.

The felafel are made fresh to order and you can have three of these plump, hot, gently spiced babies stuffed in a pita bread with a combination of vegetarian items. There's six options to choose from, but why you'd get anything other than the "Half Moon" with chilli sauce I don't know. Think crispy felafels, salad, olives, pickles, hummus... wrapped in a warm pita and weighing almost the size of a small child. This whole thing will set you back a mere $8. Other than the fact that the food here is delicious and cheap, the owners and staff are really what make this a worthy experience worth crossing town for. Run by a family for the last 12 years, they're super lovely and really care about their customers. The "father" is so kind and will make a point of walking around the tables outside to check that his customers are happy, that they have enough napkins and that they're looked after. I love chatting to him and if I time my lunch break right I might be able to sit with him while he has his lunch break in the late afternoon. Customer service doesn't cost anything, yet there's not many places that get it right or enjoy it as this family does. 5 stars.

We arrived one busy lunchtime, and joined the line of people ordering kebabs. I went for the eponymous Half Moon sandwich, which was with falafels and salad. The woman taking our order at the counter asked us to take a table outside and the other would be brought out to us. I thought she was clever to be able to remember which order went where without any table numbers or tickets. It turned out she didn't have a clue, and our order was bounced around between 4 different tables before it was given to me. At one point, she even gave the order to me, then took it away, and then returned to hand it to me again! The sandwich itself was good value at $8, but no where near as large as others have suggested. I finished it without a problem, and I wouldn't consider myself to have a bigger appetite than most guys. The salad and sauce was nice, but the falafels were ordinary. I'd have preferred them to be crunchier on the outside and soft inside. The other disappointment was that they used packet pita bread rather than baking their own, as any proper restaurant in the middle east would do. Even so, if I were in Coburg again, I would return to Half Moon Cafe for lunch.

It is quite a large venue which had a lot of both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is spacious and has both booths and tables. The staff members were very friendly throughout our visit which was pleasant. We ordered the 'Ultimate burger' with added fries, and the 'Double Ultimate burger'. The food is very affordable, as the Ultimate burger was only $11.95, and the cost of adding fries to the burger was only an extra dollar! The Double Ultimate burger was $18.95, which is still very reasonable for a burger of its size. The service was fast as the food was brought out shortly after ordering. We were in awe of the sheer size of the 'Double Ultimate burger' - it was huge! Both of the burgers looked and tasted great. They were the same burger, except the double ultimate was literally a double of the ultimate burger. The beef patties melted in your mouth; they were slightly char grilled but still really soft, juicy and tasty. The cheese complemented the grilled egg and onions really well. There was plenty of mayonnaise and tomato sauce, which gave the burgers even more flavour. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and broke down some of the heaviness of the burger. The chips added were also a nice touch. We were really impressed with the food and service from Sheesh Grill and look forward to going back and trying more!

They directed us to their adjoining space, which looks like an out-of-business shop that they've just taken over and are expanding into. There was only one table free there and we nabbed it! Afghan Kebab is fairly meat-heavy with all the chicken and lamb skewers and such, as can be expected, but they did have some vegetarian options as well. Unfortunately, most of the veg options contain yoghurt -- but they're happy to remove the yoghurt to make the dishes fully vegan, and honestly you don't feel like you're missing much. I had a dish called "zerishk palaw," which is Persian. It's a bunch of yummy seasoned rice with barberries -- little red berries that are quite tart and are a staple in Iran. I don't think I've ever had barberries before in my life, but now I'll be on the lookout for them. Our Persian friend said his mother uses them all the time and makes a nice juice out of them too. Yum! Service was friendly and efficient. The place is definitely a cheap-and-cheerful type of place with plastic chairs and zero decor and stuff, but it was perfectly fine for our purposes. I don't live anywhere near Campbellfield, otherwise I'd be back for sure when I'm in the mood for a cheap, authentic Middle Eastern dish -- but if you're in the area, check it out!

It's just a very simple little eatery - possibly 8 to 10 tables, with chairs, indoors and a few more, out - it's hot tonight - all the tables inside are full - near the front door, there's a guy at a an authentic charcoal grill, turning possibly 20 or 30 large skewers - another guy's at the other end of the shop barbecuing big Afghani breads - two women and a man stand in the centre, behind a half refrigerated, half heated long stainless steel counter - they're flat out taking orders, serving up plates, and containers to go, and making Afghan donars [skewered meats] and shawarmas [shaved meats]... I placed my order for 4 Chicken and 4 Lamb Donars - $7 each - I was being greedy - couldn't help myself - knowing, though, that if they were huge [which they were] then 4 would go straight into the fridge - for lunches tomorrow.. Well, I got home - cut 2 chicken and 2 lamb in half - put them on plates - I really don't think I'm gonna be able to explain, using words alone, just how good they were.... Here I go: - a foot by a foot square of warm soft spongey kinda almost elastic barbecued Afghan flat bread - generously filled with crisp fresh salad greens; sliced red onions, cucumber, tomatoes - 2 just charcoal grilled longish skewers of perfectly-cooked, succulent, juicy tender lean pre-marinated chicken pieces (4) AND lamb chunks (4) - the whole lot was seasoned with salt and pepper - then all drizzled with a home-made olive oil based dressing - rolled tightly in paper lined alfoil and inserted into a plain white long paper bag - one end open so the hot steam doesn't engender any sogginess And there you have one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten....!!!!
