"...THEY'VE ALWAYS HAD A GOOD REP..! ~ WHAT'S HAPPENED..? NEW OWNERS OR BAD NIGHT..? ~ DUNNO BUT WON'T BE BACK...!!!"
Last week there were 6 of us at a friend's house having a New Year catch-up drink...
It was supposed to be simply an after work thing - it was a weekday, work next day - but it suddenly got to 8.30pm and we were all still there... all getting kinda pretty hungry...
We decided it'd be a good idea to grab some decent take-away Turkish pizzas, so they suggested a call to KEBAB HOUSE on Pascoe Vale Road in Glenroy..
Honestly, I must'v rung 10 times - no answer...
I said to the guys "hey, they're closed.. must be on break.." "no" they said "they're never closed.." "okay, let me drive over.. if they are closed I'll grab something else.."
Got there at exactly 9pm - they were open - many of their tables were still full - they're s'posed to close at 9.30..
I didn't say anything about the phone - no point really..
I'd like to order 8 pizzas - 2 each of fetta, potato, lamb and onion, lamb and capsicum - "Sorry, oven not working.." said the girl - "No, we've run out of pizza bases.." said the guy.
Okay, I'll have 8 kebabs - "We've only got felafel or chicken left.." said the girl - "All the lamb and kofta gone.." said the guy.
Okay, I'll take half and half - "Only enough felafel for 2.." says the girl - "We didn't know we'd be busy.." says the guy.
No probs, I say, and wait...
Well, I reckon I waited 45 minutes, maybe longer - I must have, because they were almost closed up when I walked outta there...
I was back at the house in 5 mins... they all thought I'd got lost... they were really starving by this time...
I unwrapped the kebabs - sliced them into thirds - placed them on a platter - popped them on the table..
1. the Turkish bread was thick, stodgy, tasteless and stale - not grilled, not toasted...
2. the chicken, although tender and nicely spiced, was stone cold...
3. the felafels were 'dry as'...
4. the salad was sparse and soggy - no onion, no seasoning...
5. the garlic sauce could hardly be tasted - just a faint sourness like off yoghurt - very unpleasant...
They said "you went to the wrong place, you silly bugger.."
"No, I went where you told me.."
"Well.." they decided.. "they must'v sold to some-one green.. no doubt about that.."
Anyway I paid $77 for those kebab rolls - I had $75 cash on me - No, had to do an eftpos - Thank God I had my wallet...
I won't be going back - Sorry - They'll have to find another place to get Turkish pizzas...
