I'm going to NYC. My schedule bus departed at 3:05pm, so the Megabus arrived on time. I found the charger outlet, and it's under the seat! My advice that you might want to bring the water bottles or you will cough for hours! The bus running the AC to keep the passengers warm if you like to breath during the heater on. Since my husband is from NYC, we have traveled their many times via airplane, car, train, and bus. Recently his elderly parents were both diagnosed with chronic illnesses that have increased his travels to the BIg Apple significantly (in the course of one summer he was there sixteen times). I would say the Megabus arrives on time about 45% of the time. We have experienced them being up to two hours late. (Arrived about 45 minutes late, then told us that it had to swing to Henrietta to pick-up a new driver, and THEN come back and pick-up the passengers heading out.) We have also experienced the bus arriving unusually early (in that case, they wait until the minute they are scheduled and then zoom off). Since landing in Rochester, they have changed the bus stop four times. It is currently in a parking lot near East Avenue. No shelter for those waiting for the bus. (All their stops never have had a "station," which I'm assuming keeps their overhead and fees low.) The parking lot is mixed-use (commercial and residential), which at times is probably a nuisance to the apartment dwellers that use it. The wi-fi is spotty, so don't depend on it. The bathrooms are tiny. The driver's are not overly friendly, but for the most part professional. The bus is usually adequate in cleanliness. The passengers are a nice mix of demographics. My husband has never experienced any socially uncomfortable or awkward situations, in contrast to the train. There is an app to track the bus, which is very helpful for the loved one meeting or picking up the traveler. The Megabus is an acceptable alternative for the budget-conscious. It is considerably cheaper than any other mode of transportation. We have yet to ace a $1 ticket, but we did get a $5 (one way ticket) when we purchased two months in advance. read more

I was heading down to NYC on short notice and it was recommended I check out Megabus. I ended up finding tickets that allowed me to travel from Rochester to NYC round-trip for about $36 bucks. I drive a Jeep so I probably couldn't make it half way to the city for $36! As soon as I booked my ticket, I was provided an email that told me where to find the bus for pick-up, and where I would be dropped off when I reached my destination. A few days prior to my departure, I was sent another email telling me my return trip had been cancelled and I would need to book for another time, or another day. Since I had chosen the lowest priced trip, it was nice that I was able to change my trip at no additional cost. My bus arrived about 10 minutes early and we left exactly when it said our departure time was which was nice, but to anyone thinking about booking through Megabus, arrive early! Megabus likes to advertise the presence of WiFi and 110V power outlets on some of their buses; both of the buses I rode on boasted this feature. The WiFi works part-time. The bus is constantly trying to pick up the best signal to use so you may find that the WiFi goes in and out. Furthermore, the bandwidth is pretty small so don't plan on streaming any movies while you're on your trip. The power outlets would have been a nice touch, but I couldn't find one that worked on my buses. Certainly wasn't the end of world. For the price, I would totally use Megabus again, but for anyone thinking this is a nice, relaxing coach bus, think again. The seats are decent, and they recline, but they're not as cushioned as your average coach bus, and they recline about as much as an airline seat (I swear that only gives you about 5º of movement!). While on the bus, you will be surrounded by a colorful array of personalities, but this is a bus ride so if you're not finding interesting people, you're doing it wrong. There was a couple sitting in the row in front of me and, although they found it necessary to talk as loud as possible and watch a movie without headphones, they taught me a valuable lesson for using Megabus: BRING FOOD! They pretty much had a picnic spread out around them and they avoided having to pay the exorbitant prices at the rest stops when we stopped. So if you have a need to travel and Megabus services that area, give them a shot. Pack your picnic, bring a pillow, and make sure you've loaded your favorite movies, music, and books onto your phone and/or tablet (don't forget those headphones). Once you're on, just enjoy the ride. read more

When your bus just DOESN'T COME, and the status on the website is unavailable, and Megabus' phone lines STOP AT 9PM, you're better off taking Amtrak or Trailways. Never had this amount of problems with them. Will not be using Megabus again. read more

Always running on a clock 30+ minutes behind. Yes, it's an affordable trip back home from New York City but with the delays I've experienced every single time I ride, I might have to start taking the train. My most recent trips were so annoying. On the way to Rochester, our driver needed to make several impromptu stops because the restroom apparently was locked? We ended up arriving in Rochester a little past 3AM, which did not make my dad happy with the pickup. On the return trip, it was originally supposed to leave at 11:50PM and arrive at 6:35AM (ugh, yes it was a night bus). Instead, the bus didn't arrive until 12:40AM and we arrived in New York City at 8:35AM. I had to run back home for a quick shower and drag my sleep-deprived self immediately to the office. The people are also an interesting bunch. Yes, I've met a few interesting folks and struck up good conversations with them. Unfortunately, there are always those characters that ruin the trip for everyone. One couple missed an earlier bus and just complained the whole time, making everyone around them uncomfortable. On line, at both rest stops, and even after getting off the bus, they were a consistent nuisance. Another gentleman had his phone ring five, yes five, times throughout the night. Not only did he not have the courtesy of putting it on silent, he answered the phone every time and continued to have a ten minute conversation while the rest of the bus was trying to sleep. Budget travel, Megabus is the way to go. However, if you're willing to shell out a little more for the comfort of a train or even a plane, it will be well worth your troubles. read more

I like Megabus but I don't recommend taking it from Rochester. My husband and I arrived at 12:10 AM for our 12:30 AM bus to NYC. At 2:10 AM, with no bus, no information to turn to, and being sitting ducks for the various characters who approached us and eyed our baggage. We gladly and gratefully Ubered to the Greyhound Station, never to disparage it again. read more

Really nice of Megabus to let me know 4 minutes prior to pickup that the bus will be 60-90 minutes late. So not only do I have to wait out in the rain prior to arrival. But, I get to wait longer in rain with no update on when the bus will really show up. read more

I'm currently waiting for a bus to arrive. The bus was initially scheduled for 11:50pm, we arrived at 11:30. We called megabus 2 times only for them to tell us the bus departed from our location at 12:09pm. It's 12:17pm right now. However your incompetent telephone staff keeps insisting that the bus had left. This is the second time we have this happen to us with megabus. You are officially the worst bus service in the world. When customers spend money you have an obligation to fulfill the services that were paid for. We will never purchase tickets with megabus again. My daughter and 5m old infant were coming from Buffalo at 4:15 into Rochester on 8/11/18. Currently it's 5:48 and NO BUS IN SIGHT. I've called their useless CS line and spoke w a rep that relayed "at times the bus can be late or delayed" Seriously!!i asked for a supervisor and after almost 15 minutes of waiting a lady comes on the line and says "the bus is in Buffalo" that's it?? This is the worst company. Avoid at all costs! Not worth it. Our bus was running late so we called and they told it would be 2 hours late! No email/phone call to let us know in advance. And they refused to give us a refund or even talk about any sort of compensation until "after the trip has completed". We're not going on the trip! Bought a round trip ticket $120.50 with Megabus. What an experience! Especially the first time. It was a wet morning ( dripping) with a lots snow and ice on the ground. It was 29 degree. My departure time was 3:35AM from Rochester, NY to NYC, 2 days before Christmas . I arrived at the bus stop at 3:20AM. I stood there wait and wait. I was the only passenger. The bus never came. Try to check the status of the bus with the app on my phone. It said no information can be provided, please call customer service 877-462-6342. But the customer service was not opened until 6AM when I called. It referred me to call 908-282-7420. No one answer the call either. Finally, I have to give it up at 5:10AM. I was soak and wet. I called the customer service after 6. A lady answer my call. But it got hang up at the middle of the conversation. Called again, a gentleman answered the call. But he was unable to find the information on that. Did the bus show up at what time? He told me to call back another 15 min. Called again an hour later. Another gentleman answer the call. He said the bus did show up with 2 and half hour late. I asked for the manager after he refused to give me a full refund. They only can give me credit on my next trip. When I asked the manager if he was in my situation, would he be riding with Megabus? I'm so surprise when he said he would not. He said I have to send an email to inquiry@magabus.com to explain the situation and try to request the refund.(good luck for that) A day later, I received an email with the compensation for one way only, Not my round trip. On top of that, I wasted around $100 on the broadway show since I was unable to make it to the city. Based on my experience, Megabus is not a budget bus. Rain or shine, you have to wait at the bus stop with no roof, and no customer service. Am I considering to ride with this bus again in my future? Not in million years.
