Luckily in that half hour of waiting to see or hear from ultimate charter, we were able to get all the info of the other charter in town. Captain Dale was AWESOME! He and his mate made us feel so comfortable! We really had no idea what we were doing with lake fishing but they did everything for us and really worked hard to make sure we were having a great time! And that hard work paid off for us, we caught tons of fish!! It was so simple from beginning to end. We met them at the slip, purchased our fishing licenses there, fished and then they cleaned our catch! If we ever happen to be in this area again we will definitely be back!

They were incredibly welcoming, easygoing, and just genuinely great people to spend an evening on the water with. I also loved that they took the time to explain a little about sailing along the way. I don't know the first thing about sailing, so it was really interesting to learn a bit without it feeling too serious or technical. The whole evening felt relaxed, personal, and fun from start to finish. I'd absolutely recommend booking with them if you're looking for a memorable way to get out on the water. We'd definitely do it again!

They were professional, courteous, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. They shared so much interesting information about Grand Traverse Bay, the Traverse City area, and the Wind Dancer itself, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food, snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails were all excellent, and we especially loved that they featured local companies and businesses throughout the experience. It was a great way to experience Traverse City while enjoying an absolutely beautiful evening on the water. The combination of the beautiful boat, incredible crew, local food and drinks, and an amazing sunset made for a memorable evening. We would absolutely do it again. 10/10 would recommend the Wind Dancer to anyone visiting Traverse City -- it's a must-do experience!

We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in, and the employee there was so friendly and helped us look at some great gift options. I don't know anything about fly fishing, so it was great to have some guidance. They have apparel, books and gifts, tons of flies, fly fishing accessories, and more. We ended up getting a hat and some stickers. They seem to like the Grateful Dead as the sticker and hat we got had the lightning skull on them - which is perfect, because our friend is a huge fan. We also got a birthday card, which we were told are designed by the owner's wife. Overall it was a really great experience and I'm so glad we stopped in.

What a disappointment…read more My husband and his brother hired TNA for a belated Father's Day fishing trip with their father, who'd been talking about going on one with his sons for years. This fishing trip was to be the highlight of a joint family vacation, but, by 5pm the night before the big day, it had dissolved into thin air. Why? Because TNA had thought there were only 2 anglers going on the trip, not the 3, which requires 2 boats/guides, not 1. But there'd been 3 anglers going on the trip from the very beginning, so we're not entirely certain how that information didn't get communicated when my husband called to inquire about/book the trip. To be completely fair, I fully believe TNA was going to do everything they could to locate that second boat/guide even mere hours before the trip and during the busy season, but the set up just wasn't what the guys wanted. Maybe being the lone fisherman on the second boat would be nice if one was going with friends, but not the first ever father/sons fishing trip. Is that when they find out who's the favorite son? It just wasn't going to work. And no one is/was advocating to risk everyone's safety by cramming another brother onto the boat, but, had the angler/boat ratio been communicated to my husband when he called, he could've given his dad a nice Yeti cooler instead. He'll get his deposit back, but is still out the money/time spent obtaining all three fishing licenses, as that's not a service TNA provides. It's just a huge disappointment caused by such a simple mistake, thus the 1 star.

This is the second trip we've taken with True Blue Charters. We didn't think the first trip could…read morebe beat, but the crew has done it again! Our last charter was with Capt Brian and we can't say enough good things about him! Capt Brian's son Luke took the reigns this charter. Our crew today consisted of Luke and Derrick. Luke and Derrick were personable, knowledgeable, and just down right awesome. It helps that Luke has been fishing basically since he was born and he's been in several tournaments through out his life. Derrick also works at the marina and is very knowledgeable as well. We left the dock around 7:15 AM and were catching fish by 7:30. We caught three lake trout right off the bat. In the downtime between reeling in fish, we talked with each other as well as Luke and Derrick and had a blast just relaxing out in the bay. We made two loops in the bay and caught about 9 fish total, only throwing one back in the bay due to size and the limit. There's a limit of two fish per person. We were very happy with our catch! To top it off, Derrick gutted and cleaned our fish for us right there on the dock! We will be back. This crew takes credit cards. Also you can put the tip on your card. One nice thing about True Blue is they always make sure to give the primary (guest who pays) a little privacy so the whole crew doesn't overhear the cost or your tip amount. Oh! I almost forgot. We had our trip scheduled for June 23, but had some family events happen that prevented us from being able to fish that weekend. I texted Brian around June 9 and was like hey we can't make it, but want to reschedule. He responded almost immediately with dates he had available, even going as far as to offer up his Fathers Day for us. He said he'd get us in on June 16. That's right, he jumped at the chance to accommodate us and this crew gave up their morning the Saturday before Fathers Day to take us out on a week's notice.

We filled the box with lake trout in about 3 hours. They made it look like it was easy! You can tell they generally want you to have a good time and catch fish. Their gear is top notch. There's plenty of room on the boat for up to 6 people, maybe more (this is just my opinion). They have excellent gear with a combination of mono, braid, steel, and copper lines to get down to the fish. They have more lures than Bass Pro Shop and rotate through a ton of choices to find out what the fish are liking at that time. For our trip, they only had a short distance to travel to the fishing hole so this maximized our reel time. Their boat has a state of the art probe that measures water temp and current to pin point the best lure placement and trolling speed. We had an excellent time catching fish and telling fish lies (stories) in between bites. You definitely get your money's worth on this boat!

From start to finish it was a top-notch experience starting with working with Rachel to book the charter to the patient First Mate Nick and the professional Captain Sonny. We left the dock on Pisces and headed out. Nick started to put out the rods but he didn't just put them out, he explained to the kids all of the equipment, why he was doing things, and answered their questions. Big Kahuna knows where the fish are. In no time the fish were biting. When it was time to reel in the fish Nick was right next to the kids in case they needed help. After we got the fish aboard he even got the kids to hold the fish. When we got to the docks the fish were expertly filleted. Later we cooked up the fish and it was some of the best I've eaten (well, my cooking had something to do with that, too!). All-in-all a wonderful experience. Thank you Big Kahuna, Rachel, Nick, and Captain Sonny for helping create special memories for me and my kids.

My wife and I each rented hybrids, and it took me several tries to find a bike that seemed functional. Multiple had loose front wheels that wouldn't tighten, but after a few attempts the attendant was able to get one tightened. Sizing and fitting aren't really part of the process -- this was more of a "just pick whatever bike you want" situation. Soon after we left, I realized that my tires were underinflated, so we had to go back for air. And midway through our ride, huffing and puffing to maintain speed, we realized that most of the brakes were rubbing -- both wheels on my bike, and the front wheel on my wife's. At $40 for a half day per bike, this was a disappointing experience. If you're looking for a rental bike to bum around for a few hours, this might be fine, but if you want to go for a real ride I'd recommend renting elsewhere, or making sure that River Outfitters improves their maintenance practices.
