I recently rented hanboks here for myself, my husband, and my daughter for her first birthday (dohl). The sales associate who initially helped us did a good job picking out coordinating modern hanboks for our family. Everything matched beautifully, and I was really happy with the selections. One thing to know is that they have very strict policies. You're not allowed to touch the hanboks yourself, and you're limited to trying on only two pieces. I understand why, though, since all of their hanboks are handmade in house and made from 100% silk. The prices are definitely on the higher end compared to other places. For example, you can purchase a baby's hanbok online for around $100, while rentals here for babies start at about $200. In the end, I rented hanboks for all three of us, which came to well over $1,000. The rental included the accessories, undergarments, and shoes. It was a splurge, but I truly loved our outfits, so I decided it was worth it. When I went to pick everything up the day before the party, the original sales associate wasn't there. Another associate assisted me, and that's when we realized one important piece of my hanbok was missing, the outer jacket. They initially told me it hadn't been included in my order, which didn't make sense because the outfit wouldn't have been complete without it and I didn't try on anything else. I had a picture to show proof that it was supposed to be altogether. Thankfully, the associate helping me went above and beyond to fix the situation. She sincerely apologized, found another jacket that actually looked even better with my dress, and even helped me exchange my daughter's hanbok for one that suited her even more. She was incredibly accommodating and made sure everything came together without charging me anything extra.I was extremely anxious because my daughter's party was the very next day, but thanks to her, what could have been a disaster turned into a wonderful experience. Considering some of the customer service reviews I'd read beforehand, I was pleasantly surprised by how well she handled everything. Our hanboks were a huge hit at the party. We received so many compliments and felt absolutely beautiful. I'm so grateful for the care and effort she put into making everything right. This was for our wedding, a once-in-a-lifetime event, and the experience was horrible. The shop owner's attitude was unacceptable, on top of multiple mess-ups: 1. Quoted us for only one Hanbok, even though we said both sets of parents needed them. We ended up having to pay double our budget. 2. Hanbok wasn't ready on pickup day. 3. Blamed the unevenness on my mom's arm length, VERY unprofessional. 4. Gave us unwashed, untailored Hanbok with unwearable shoes, and blamed it on a date mix-up. The owner never apologized; staff did. 5. MIL had to go back the next day because the owner had claimed they'd tailored the original Hanbok, but apparently they hadn't, the size was way off. Meanwhile, my mom's Hanbok was still noticeably yellowed from the initial mishap. The owner's attitude ruined the experience for something we can never redo. read more

Not the best customer service for a high end place. I went in here to look for a hanbok for my daughter's upcoming first birthday. The condescending sales associate lady wouldn't let us touch any of the baby hanbok since they are made with 100% silk. Their baby hanbok collection was very beautiful but so overpriced compared to other places. Once the sales associate told me their baby hanboks were $800, I immediately walked out. I don't care how nice their baby hanbok is. I refuse to spend $800 on a baby hanbok that she will probably wear for just 30 minutes. That price is insane! read more

I'm getting married in November and visited this shop for hanboks and paebaek rental. It costs almost 3x as much as other shops in ktown and the sales associate was incredibly rude. She couldn't even be bothered to show us what we asked for. Also, despite paying close to 3x the price quoted from two other shops, she informed me I'd have no say in which headpiece I'd wear at my own wedding as they would just give me whichever one THEY felt like. Wtf? Not worth your time. Is the quality better? Not in my opinion. You can customize your hanbok at any of the shops in ktown to be made of whatever materials and designs you pick so I find it offensive to suggest they charge more bc their hanboks are superior in some way. Also, a lot of folks get their measurements done locally and have their hanboks made in Korea so I find it a bit silly to suggest the hanboks here are the best around. They do a good job of PR - ie they've made hanboks for celebrities and what not but it's pretty clear they really don't care about their everyday customers. read more

Horrible customer service. I flew in with my family from out of state to get hanbok for 5 people including myself for my wedding in October. My mom and I are not used to seeing hanbok since it has been way too long since we had worn one or had been interested to really look at one. However, whenever my mom expressed her opinion about a style she liked or asked about something, the lady would just immediately reply to my mom saying that "that's too old", "that's not the trend anymore", "that's old style", or "that doesn't match" MULTIPLE times instead of trying to be helpful. She even said "I told you that's too old". What the heck? Honestly I thought it was extremely rude and her tone was so condescending. We may not really know the "trend" nowadays like she repeatedly said, but she was just so adamant and aggressive...it honestly made me want to leave the store. Everyone can speak their opinions...is the customer not even allowed to ask questions about different styles that they are interested in even if the seller thinks it's "not the trend"? Recommendations are totally fine to be made by someone who is trying to sell something but speaking in a rude and an ignorant tone to the customer as if the customer is clueless and not knowledgeable was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. I honestly left the store extremely annoyed and upset because of the way the lady treated my mother. Never going there again and I would definitely NOT recommend. I gave one star because they let me try on a couple hanboks that the lady liked/recommended and I thought were okay. The Meehee hanbok on 8th St is a VERY rude store. First of all, the location is dirty. I went there to choose a hanbok for my baby. I just tried to put some clothes on my child, when the owner suddenly and rudely took the hanbok from my hand because she said it could be stained with baby's saliva or baby could have dirty hands. Even though the hanbok didn't touch my baby's mouth and my baby didn't reach for it! What's more funny, the hanbok was of poor quality and looked cheap. I would never recommend this place to anyone. SLEAZY SHOP ALERT!!! I never wrote a BAD REVIEW before. I usually right very positive feedback's from my experience when it's really really worth it... but this time, it's for the opposite reason. Matching the other bad reviews, long story short: - Went to rent a Hanbok for my son's Dol Party (First Birthday Party in Korean), did not choose a specific Hanbok but was SUGGESTED by them that "I should just in case". Also, they didn't let my son try on the Hanbok to see if it fits right!! - Did not inform us of their Policy which is "DEPOSITS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE!" (deposit in FULL is required to rent the baby Hanbok btw, which was not written anywhere). - When they wrote my CC payment on the receipt, they should have noted that it was PAID instead of DEPOSIT!! Because I did pay the full amount for renting the Hanbok, which should be considered PAID!! - Called to cancel the Hanbok for rent because we got a way better one as gift from a family member. They made it feel like it was OUR FAULT FOR CALLING SO LATE! That it could've been refunded in FULL if I cancelled within 24 hours!! (Another thing not mentioned during the "Deposit" and it was not written on Receipt!) - Told us that they couldn't give us the refund because they were HOLDING THE HANBOK FOR US!! The most important part is, we didn't even pick it up!! They suggested that we pick one!! We were just going to choose when I went to pick it up! - In the end, after 3 attempts of getting refund, they confessed that IF they mentioned their policy during purchase, they would have low profit, so that's considered HIDING THEIR POLICY FROM THE CUSTOMER!! - All in all, a terrible experience. This hanbok shop is the best in Koreatown! I went to one before that wouldn't let me rent out paebaek garments outside of their store, but luckily found Kim Mehee who let me rent out the bride/groom paebaek garments and accessories at a great value. The owners were both very sincere and professional, I really felt like I was in good hands. It was a challenge to figure out how to wear the paebaek outfits, but they thoroughly explained how to wear the complicated looking head piece and robes so that we can look our best. In the end, the hanboks looked even MORE beautiful and vibrant in our engagement pictures and I couldn't be happier! I was so pleased by my experience that we returned back with my mother to rent my mother-in-law's wedding hanbok. We knew nothing about the proper attire for a wedding, so they handpicked a few fine quality selections but at reasonable prices. What a great experience! I came here with my mom and husband to look for a hanbok for my sons dol. This was our first stop as I have read so many good reviews, why not. I didn't know what to expect on price, I thought maybe it would run me about $300+. I was surprised that it was about $100 less than that. We picked out a more traditional looking hanbok for my son. I can't wait for him to try it on! I even tried on a modern hanbok.. Still debating on renting it for family pictures. The dresses are SO beautiful. I'm kicking myself for not coming here for my wedding dress. I joked with my husband to have another wedding, but he didn't find the humor in that. During my consultation, they guided me on the best cloth for my color scheme and how the color would look with different layers, light, etc. I had my original fitting, a second fitting, and the final look before I took it home. I can't begin to describe how ecstatic I was with this place!!! In preparation for my wedding, I had been looking to re-size my grandmother's old hanbok (she passed away several years ago). I went to another shop first, and the lady kept saying the color was wrong for a new bride (the seafoam green is technically an "old lady's color") and the style was old, etc etc. I just wanted to incorporate my grandmother's dress into mine! Who cares about she thinks about the color, right? It's actually part of my wedding color, too, so it was perfect for me.. I got so upset because she refused to listen to what I wanted.. When I came here, the lady was so professional about the color and re-making the dress. She tried to tell me (much less rudely) about the colors and style, but once she knew the sentimental value of the dress, she was so so so helpful in choosing fabrics to bring out the colors. She was also very patient when choosing the design of the hanbok. Who knew there are SO many different ways to make them now?! All in all, I am so incredibly pleased with how my dress turned out. I may have received more compliments on my hanbok than my actual wedding dress haha! Honestly, they have such great skill and creativity and beautiful dresses on display, too.. Rental is higher than average My event got cancelled due to weather and I wasn't able to wear the Hanbok which I prepaid the rental charge but they wouldn't refund me. In the process of preparing for my sister's wedding, I visited all the hanbok shops in town for custom-made hanboks. The price was a bit more expensive than other hanbok stores, but there were plenty of reasons to choose this store. In the United States, the stores that made hanbok rarely made them in-store. They usually order them and have them shipped from Korea. I noticed a special difference from other hanbok shops in terms of quality and design. So I chose this place despite the high price, and the result was very satisfactory. The moment I saw the beautiful fusion Hanbok dress, my sister, mom and I were very happy!! Kim MeHee Korean Dress Boutique is LEGIT! The owner opened this shop more than 25 years ago and has hasn't slowed down in the very same spot. Dresses (and men's clothing) can be rented, purchased, taylored, and of course, customized. I've only visited the boutique a handful of times in the past decade, but she always greets me with a smile and she is so kind to her clients. Her attention to detail, creative flair, and care for her clients only adds to the beauty and elegance of her dresses. Though she has dressed a number of celebrities (Sandra Oh, Jessica Alba, Lisa Ling, to name a few), she gives her all to whoever walks through the boutique's doors. I did mine and my husband's wedding Hanbok here. Even though the price was bit on the expensive side I liked the material they had and was on the time crunch so didnt have time to shop around. I would not come back here again nor recommend to other people. I paid $1400 for my wedding hanbok (which is not cheap) and sewing on the top part of my skirt was just embarrassingly ugly and it was just exposed like that. I wanted to rip it out that I already went back to fix the problem twice but they really couldnt make improvement on it. Either they are short on skills or they try to save on the material and the old owner lady there was not interested in customer service nor making improvements on their products, rather she just wanted to make money and wanted to me out the door. This review is long overdue, since my husband and I were married in April, but I thought I should post about my wonderful experience for anyone who was considering using Kim MeHee's shop for their own Hanbok. My wedding Hanbok was just as detailed and well-crafted as I hoped it would be. The overall experience of ordering was very simple: we looked at several on-floor samples and catalogs of possible dresses, and we were welcome to customize any part of the dress (the fabric choices and color options, traditional vs. modern, etc). I ended up purchasing one of the Hanbok we saw in her catalog books without any customizations, and were told that I was the first one to ever purchase that dress! I was ecstatic when I tried it on for the first time, everything fit perfectly thanks to her measurement process, and the quality of the fabrics and craftsmanship were on par with the cost of the Hanbok. The quoted time for production was accurate, and she even provided tips on how to wear it, and a garment bag to keep it safe when we brought it home. I went here because the place looked immaculate, the colors, the fabrics, everything looked top of the notch. she helped us pick colors and try things on and even gave us a small discount. everything seemed great except for her rude and pushy business manager. BUT! i went to pick up the dress and they wouldn't let me try it on before I left with it. first, they were with another customer, but i was willing to wait. she said they don't do that. i came home and tried on my dress, my mom put hers on and they didn't measure us properly. my strapless dress is 3 inches too big and won't even stay on. my mom's juh guh ri is all effed up and isn't even what they had discussed. fast forward.. it's now a month before my wedding and my mom doesn't even want to wear the hanbok that cost of $1200 to make. now i'm searching for another place that won't backlash at me for their poor craftmanship and customer service. do not go here... not worth the hype. read more

Quick review: overpriced and the woman in charge was not interested in helping us unless we ordered a very expensive custom gown. All I needed was a hanbok for my daughter to wear to her sister's dol. My experience: I chose this shop as my first stop for a hanbok for my daughter mainly because when I called ahead the person spoke English. Over the phone the girl was very helpful. She told me to come in and look at the catalog and they would measure my daughter. Easy. When I got to the shop, the girl was very friendly and directed me to a corner where they had a selection of sample children's hanboks. They were very pretty, and more modern, so I asked about the price and was told $400-$600! I asked about the catalog and she told me they were a little cheaper, but I had to press for a price range. She finally told me they start around $250. (The catalog doesn't list the prices) Sorry, that's a lot cheaper! She told us we could take pictures and decide later on the style, but we should get measured now so we won't have to make the drive back to LA. Great! When we walked over to get measured the older lady said they don't do that unless we order a custom dress. The catalog comes in basic sizes (and pretty basic traditional styles as well) and asked my daughter's age. I told her she is 2 1/2 so she said we should order a 2. I said her old hanbok is a 2 and she wears a 3t-4t. (My very tall 2 year old was standing right there.) Then she said I would probably need a 3 then and the sizes are big. She wasn't interested in getting our business, so we said we could shop on their website and left. We went to another shop where the toddler dresses were $150 and still very pretty. The girl tried dresses on my daughter and made her feel like a princess. My daughter was actually a 4. The 3 was much too small! I will be buying my daughter's hanbok from the other shop. I'm not going to risk overpaying for a dress that won't even fit. read more

I'm from Venezuela and married a Korean American this past Saturday 4/2/11! We wanted to bring out the best of both of our cultures during our event as we joined two very different families and groups of friends. We decided to serve Venezuelan appetizers and dessert and Korean food for dinner, which definitely represented my husband and I since we both LOVE food...however, it was important for me to go a step above, not only to show my respect for his culture, but my deep acceptance for our union. I thought it would be so nice if my dress represented our theme since everyone would be staring at it all night! So, I decided to get a Hanbok! Now, most people know Hanboks are colorful dresses, high waisted, and fun, but not very "wedding-y" to the "Western" standard. However, I had a vision for what I wanted: a white Hanbok without the jacket, sweetheart shaped top, and a play with the material...it was definitely a marriage of both cultures and a challenge for traditional Korean seamstresses. However, my husband had already found a woman who could take on the challenge! We had found a picture of Sandra Oh wearing a Hanbok made by a seamstress in LA: Kim Me Hee! From the very first appointment everyone at Kim Me Hee's boutique embraced the challenge and gave me full attention and patience. We ended up having a lot of fun with the project, and although I had to drive to LA a few times to get it "just right" everyone at Kim Me Hee's boutique, including her daughter and the rest of the staff, gave me nothing but smiles and amazing service. I felt so at ease, I just knew I had nothing to worry about. The wedding was beautiful and the dress was fitting for the occasion. It was so unique and glamorous, it made me feel like a true Korean bride with plenty of my own Latina flavor. Wonderful service and beautiful handcrafted dresses made to order! Despite living in N. CA, everything was a breeze. I made three trips - once for measurements and the next two visits for fittings. I showed a picture to Kim MeHee of the dress I wanted. MeHee and her busy bees worked with me to have the dress perfected. She kept me abreast of their progress and took my comments into consideration when making the dress. They even remade the top, because I didn't like the length the first time. A super gold star plus to this store because Kim MeHee and her assistant speak perfect english. Plus she's very responsive to emails and phone calls. Totally unexpected in a Korean store in Koreatown. As for price...if I had known how modern, beautiful and comfortable hanboks could be, I would never have bought my western style off-white lace gown. Too bad I bought the traditional gown prior to visiting this store. The hanbok was half the amount that I paid for my sample designer gown. AND it was made specifically for me. If I had to do the wedding over, I think I would have ordered two dresses (one colorful and one more muted) from these gals and not have purchased the traditional lace dress. Kim Mehee made the most beautiful hanboks for my mother and mother-in-law for my wedding. She was so easy to work with (and easy to communicate with as she is fluent in English and Korean!) My mom lives in northern california, so I had to google hanbok sizing instructions and took her measurements myself. Her prices were very reasonable as well, and was less than I had actually budgeted for the hanboks! My mother in law and I went in for our appointment to get her fitted, and pick out the colors/fabrics for the two hanboks. You can tell the designer/owner was an expert, because she knew straight off the bat that the measurements I brought in for my mom were off. She asked a couple questions and estimated what her measurements were. I wanted to avoid the standard pink/blue that Korean mothers wear at weddings, and she helped us pick out the most beautiful fabrics and color that reflected traditional and modern at the same time. She has a great eye for these things, and was incredibly helpful and patient as we picked out the perfect combination of the top, bottom, the sash, and all the details of the lining, etc. The hanboks were ready exactly when she promised, and I loved that she was also available via email - as I had to plan my wedding from San Francisco. My mom came down a few days before the wedding, and I was a little worried that the hanbok wouldn't fit... she tried it on the day before, and it fit PERFECTLY. IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT I'd been looking for a hanbok-inspired wedding dress all over Pinterest. My girls and I narrowed down a couple shops in Koreatown. The first shop left us underwhelmed. But as soon as we walked into Kim MeHee's boutique, it was different. These were the dresses that were being pinned. These were the vibrantly colored, modern styles I had been searching for. My eyes fell upon a bold maroon skirt...and it was love at first sight. I showed my girls and they understood. A kindly shop lady asked if I'd like to try it on. Oh my, really? I thought, understandably gun-shy after the last shop experience. I was assisted into it, emerged from the dressing room feeling --cheesy as this sounds--like a royal. Of course, I'm making a few tweaks from the original to make it my own. Kim's been nothing short of inspired when I've asked for different options for the bodice. I've recently had a second meeting with my parents in tow (to finalize the details), and Kim was incredibly kind and patient in answering 101 of Mom's questions. I seriously fall in love with the dress every time I see it. Kim is an absolute artist, and I couldn't be more honored than to be working with her for my hanbok-inspired wedding dress. For my upcoming wedding, my fiance's parents want us to do the traditional Korean ceremony so, we all had to get hanboks made for our big day. Prior to deciding on this place we had shopped around, but this place kept standing out. One Saturday afternoon, we all got together -- me, fiancé, my mom, and mom in law, and journeyed over to pick out our hanboks and to get measured. After looking through several books and talking with the owner on what type of style I was going for, I found one that I liked. The owner then matched my fiancé's to mine, not entirely, but very subtly. Then came the moms'. That took a loooong time, but they finally decided on a style that suited both of them. The entire process took a long time, but the owner was extremely nice and patient with us. We don't get our hanboks til October, so will update on how they turned out :) read more

Don't be alarmed by the dollar $ signs. Depending on the style the cost is actually very reasonable. You will NOT be able to find the quality and design anywhere else for this price. I came here to rent a Paebaek set, but was completely enamoured by the beautiful hanboks! They aren't afraid to modernize the hanbok -- a design that can very often be stuffy and matronly -- and turn it into something really elegant and chic. The service was professional and courteous. The Paebaek hanboks that they rent out are the standard hwal-ot etc., prices are reasonable and pretty standard as well. Unfortunately I ended up ordering my hanbok directly from Korea, but the next time I need one made, I would come here in a heartbeat. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this boutique! I recently married into a Korean American family and have been immersing myself in Korean culture since I met my husband two years ago. My husband and I had a western style wedding at home in Chicago but because I'm so enamored with everything Korean, my mother-in-law offered to throw us a traditional Korean reception in my husband's home town of Los Angeles. For the event, my mother-in-law wanted to treat me to my first hanbok and took me to Meehee Hanbok for a custom dress. I was initially overwhelmed when we walked into the shop...every hanbok I looked at was a gorgeous work of art and I had no idea of where to start or how to choose what I wanted. Thankfully the owner, who speaks English, was there and took me in hand. She first showed me a few different styles of hanbok and once I had decided on the more modern modified style, we moved on to colors, fabrics and embellishments. All I needed to do was tell her my favorite colors and, in a very brief time, she had selected a variety of fabrics in an assortment of colors and patterns that all complimented each other. I was quickly measured, we set a date for me to come pick it up and we were done. The entire process took maybe an hour and a half. I couldn't believe it...Eun Joo Kim is a master at her craft. I went to pick up my hanbok on Thursday 9/22/16 and was so excited to see how stunning it had turned out and how perfectly it fit. We decided that the hem needed to be adjusted to show off the green underskirt a bit more and were promised it would be ready the next afternoon (which was vital since the reception was Saturday). That same evening we were notified that the hanbok was ready! The seamstresses at Meehee Hanbok are incredible! As a bonus, when I picked up my hanbok, Eun Joo Kim presented me with a beautiful norigae as a gift which was so above and beyond and thoughtful. My entire experience at this shop was flawless. Most importantly, at my wedding reception, I felt like royalty and I received countless compliments at the reception. I cannot recommend Meehee Hanbok enough. read more

Short story: - Missed multiple deadlines/deliverables, causing the bride & groom to miss their photoshoot. - Were dishonest; they said they were done when they were not. - Failed to deliver all pieces that were ordered, despite being paid IN FULL for everything at the time of the order. No refund given for pieces that were not delivered. - Terrible, unprofessional customer service. They did not admit fault or make any attempts to remedy the situation; instead, we were made to feel like this was our fault. - Hanboks were very expensive (which would have NOT been an issue if the experience & final product were great). - Overall, horrible experience; would NOT recommend. Long story: My aunt & uncle flew all the way from HAWAII to order custom hanboks for their daughter & her fiancé. We picked this boutique based on the glowing Yelp reviews. Although the prices were expensive (about $1,000 per hanbok), we decided to purchase our hanboks from here because the photos they showed us were beautiful and well styled. When placing our order, we repeatedly mentioned that it was crucial that the hanboks arrive in Hawaii by a specific date since both my cousin and her fiancé were visiting for a very short time during the holidays and had their engagement photoshoot scheduled during their trip. We were assured repeatedly that this was not going to be an issue and the hanboks would arrive well in advance. They said that they already had most of the fabrics in-house to make the hanboks and so timing wouldn't be an issue. We even discussed how the hanboks would be shipped (in what type of box, which carrier, which service, etc.). After going through every detail, we signed forms, gave measurements, gave address information, and paid in full for the hanboks. We didn't hear a peep from them in the following weeks. As the deadline neared, we called them TWICE for status updates, and both times we were assured everything was on track. However, when the time came, they missed the deadline and when we called to figure out what on earth happened, they STILL had not sent the hanboks. Their excuse: "We didn't have the address." What?!? Lies!! First, we wrote our address on the order form at the time of purchase. Second, they had my aunt's and my mother's phone numbers so they could have called us ANYTIME. And third, we called TWICE to inquire about the status of the hanboks (when we were nearing the deadline and hadn't heard a word from them) and both times they failed to mention that they were missing the address. Because the hanboks didn't arrive on time, my cousin and her fiancé MISSED their photoshoot and this ordeal caused so much stress during what should have been the most wonderful time of the year. The staff were unapologetic, rude, and condescending. They did not admit to any fault and even made it sound like it was our fault for this mess. Furthermore, we ordered gomoshins (traditional Korean shoes that are worn with hanboks) but they were not included in the order. So they basically ripped us off! We were offered no refund for the gomoshins that were not sent. Bottom line, absolutely unprofessional and not worth the time, emotions, and money. read more

WOW!!! If I thought my experience was horrible on Saturday it was nothing compared to what I experienced today! This is the second day they have ruined for me. Kim Mehee called me to discuss my previous yelp review. I told her why I left feeling dissatisfied and she explained that her reaction was because, "Most of my customers usually do not make appointments, but when you make an appointment it means you're serious." I do not think that is any excuse to treat a customer so rudely. Also, note that I was very serious in wanting to rent a hanbok that day, and I DID at the second location I went to! Just like when you shop for a wedding dress, or any other wedding vendor, you make appointments with multiple vendors so that you can pick the best option. The point of making appointments is to be guaranteed assistance when entering a shop because people don't have TIME to just dilly dally in the shop all day until help opens up. I was on a tight schedule that Saturday, which is why an appointment was made. AGAIN, I would not recommend this place. I was so upset that I no choice but to hang up on her (she would not let me speak and kept speaking over me). She has been harassing me with calls nonstop. I NEVER write 1 star reviews but this is the worst treatment I have ever received. I have already informed my friends of my negative experience and would not recommend this place to anyone! read more
