In a word, I would callthe 'phlebotomist' UNTRAINED. Honestly, the only reason I gave it a star was for the nice lady that brought the wet paper towels for my neck and because zero stars seems not to he an option.
The lady that took my blood was given a particularly sensitive piece of information before her first attempt. Her first attempt at drawing my blood happened to go directly into a nerve in my arm. I am hooting and hollering, talking about how i can feel pins and needles down my other arm before she pulls the needle out saying, "I've never made anyone cry out loud before!" Suffice to say i dont know how much truth lies in that statemet, i pointed to a spot on the back of my arm that based on its being superficial and straight i didnt see how she could mess up... But as she was drawing my blood with a butterfly needle and a twenty gauge syringe pulled back so far she is now collapsong my vein... and it hurts!! So im telling her to chill on pulling back so far and what she is doing, but she continues to pull hard, too hard for the tiny vein we are using when all of a sudden I get dizzy. The nice lady that brought me the paper towel explaibed that our nerves going throughout our body are conbected to many different things such as heart rate, breathing, etc. And its possible the nerve in my arm was connected to the vagus nerve. Stimulating it may have made my heartrate drop.
Thats what happened, but heres the thing that bothered me. The lady doing my blood draw seemed quite well versed in her computer, patient comfort, the correct items to use for the blood and how nuch would go into eaxh collection tube... WHY wasnt she informed on the difference between the feel of a vein (soft) and the feel of a nerve (hard)... is it possible that she was having a bad day?
Yes, but that f oesnt gice her the right to abusr my body for her pleasure. It now feels as though it could have been intentional since she appears to be a 'trained' proffessional. Ask any phlebotomist how different veins and nerves feel to someone trained, take into condideration a sensitive piece of my past, and now i dont think it was an 'accident'... Feels intentional... AND MY FINGERS DONT HAVE MUCH FEELING. MY HAND IS PARTIALLY NUMB YET STILL, HOURS LATER. One star for the lady who brought the papertowel for my neck. read more
