I have been without a family doctor for years but was finally fortunate enough to be seen as a walk in at Westgate Medicentre recently by their new physician fresh from the UK Dr.Mary Arumemi and accepted as her new patient. (She is currently accepting new patients btw) I literally cannot express the gratitude I feel for the care she has given me on my health journey. I have been struggling with health issues lately, it has effected my quality of life, work , etc... I told her my story , symptoms, concerns and she got to work right away on the very first visit. I had requisitions for BW , X-rays and insisted on a follow up appointment, sending me home with refill scripts for any current meds I needed. From the start she was kind, caring, compassionate and a great listener. And no matter how many times I showed up at the clinic with my mysterious symptoms she always welcomed me back with a reassuring smile and an equal determination to resolve the consistent sickness I kept having to endure. Since that first visit I have come a long way in such a short amount of time. I can happy say that due to the efforts and incredible care from Dr.Arunemi I am currently on the road to recovery. Westgate Medicentre is an absolute hidden GEM! The clinic is clean, staff is friendly, short wait times and my new doctor an absolute godsend. If there is anyone else out there looking for either a new walk in clinic or needs a family doctor I highly recommend visiting!! You will be pleasantly surprised and glad you went! My overall experience at Medicentre is that they don't provide me with the same service I have at my family doctor's office but it's good to be able to see a doctor in a short timeframe when I can't get an immediate appointment with my doctor and the issue doesn't warrant a visit to the hospital emergency. I have been here a few times and I check the website in advance to see what the estimated wait time was. The last time my wait was close to an hour which was longer than the quoted time on the website but from the time it takes to get there, they could be more patients that have arrived. Being in Rexall Drugstore, I browsed in the store and shopped during my wait. I had to wait a few more minutes in the room for the Doctor. The Doctor was nice and spent time chatting with me about my issue. He told me to increase my dosage of medication, gave me a prescription, and also made a referral to a specialist. Convenient location with lots of parking and hours are good to open later in the evening. read more

I have been here plenty of times. For OIS and for non work related things. I have never had a bad experience, but today was markedly the best. Today I found out that you can check in, by dropping by and putting your name on the list, then have a wait time quoted and then LEAVE AND COMEBACK at the quoted time. Extremely convenient. I dropped by to sign in after work, was able to go home, have dinner, walk the dog, call and see if the wait time has changed, got an updated quote, and then play a computer game and mosey on back over for my time. I was in and out in 20 min once there. And they were open til 10pm. That's how a walk in should be. Good job. They have rotating physicians, naturally, and some are more patient and kind than others, but overall, I've had good experiences. read more

So I was sick today and took some medication that slept the day away. This is the closest Medicentre to my place, near MacEwan University. I walked from my place to the Westend Medicentre. My phone has the temp shown to be -18C out, so i was rather frozen when i arrived. When I walked to the back corner of Rexall there was roughly 45mins plus to spare before closing. I took notice of maybe five people in the waiting section. Nobody worse than how I was feeling. I approached the desk to see the staff member sitting there doing nothing. Quickly literally she was doing nothing, just sitting there. I told her that I merely needed a doctors note for being sick today. Very abruptly she shut me down telling me it couldn't be done. Confused I asked why and if there was any way I could just get the note quickly. Afterall to get a doctors note you have to pay $35 for. This is where I should point out in Toronto Ontario I paid roughly $10-$15 for a doctors note and I ALWAYS left the walk-in clinic with the note. She basically pointed to the five people and told me to look at all the people. Honestly a note from a doctor would take two seconds. Not to mention like I said they would be getting my $35 as well and it was still during operating hours. If you are going to operate as a business and not a healthcare facility. ie: charging for simplistic things such as doctors notes. Than you cannot turn paying customers away during hours of operation. Looks like I am just going to have to find an actual family doctor and never visit a Medicentre ever again. read more

I am not a conflicted person, but I decided to write about my experience in this clinic to help people make their choice. Today I had a bad experience again at this clinic. My claim is not for doctors, but for a service personnel. The first is that it is not possible to reserve time and day in advance (this is very inconvenient when you work). The second is a small room and it is easy to catch any virus. The third is a waiting time of at least 6 hours. It is necessary to take into account the fact that pesonal are liars and today I saw this meny times for example: they moving up in the waiting list about at least 4 people wich came much later than me and this is not the first time. The fourth is served by non-professionals. I asked the attendants to write me on a waiting list to remove the growth on the skin and young man did not have the gloves and tried to squeeze out with dirty hands what hurts and what the doctor advised to remove with a small operation. Fifth, all who go to the toilet do not close the door and all the flavors with germs fly in the air. The sixth is a very uncomfortable waiting chairs. Absolutely disgusted!!!! I arrived here at Westgate Medicentre this morning at 8:45 just before the doors opened. First: the receptionist should learn how to speak to people! Her tone and attitude was enough to make you sick! As I still sit here at 10:45am with a room FULL of patients!! There is no Doctor who has even arrived yet!!!! They called and stated they would be late. I gathered this from overhearing the receptionist on the phone. She (the receptionist) is still accepting patients without even notifying them of the current situation. What a system! Awful as I look around and just see all the elderly and children waiting... This place is absolutely horrible you are always waiting for hours. I came in today waited 20 minutes for them to just check me in and over two hours just to see a doctor. There was only about 15 people to begin with in here. And the one receptionist is such a disgusting lady always gives attitude towards patients. It sucks that this is the only clinic on the west end. Also they have stupid charges a doctors note $35 what the.... and they charged me $48 because i was from out of province. Do not suggest that anyone goes here worst experiences every time. read more

Usually I do not write reviews but I am deeply disappointed by doctors in this clinic. Just go somewhere else.

Went to this medicentre on the last day of the year 2013 with a sinus infection. Had gone there previously and was scene within 20 minutes. This time there must have had over 25 people in the office and literally no one at the front desk. It was a third world health care postcard at best! I waited for 5 minutes at the desk tapping my fingers no bell...nothing. Left thinking that if I had not been sick going in there I sure would have been coming out! read more
