service in the midland/ ellerslie ga. area is poor at best-outages occur often lasting anywhere from minutes to days--yes--days and mediacom is doing nothing nothing to inprove or correct the issues. several neighbors putting together information and want to seek a class action suit against the provider. we have complained to the columbus,ga office with no -lasting or attempted resolution. several of us have and are filing complaints with public service commission. we are paying for services that we are ---not--- getting it takes more than one or two--if you are in this area --speak-up- results happen with numbers. read more

Around the first week of July this year a company installing fiber optic cable cut my Mediacom cable line from the road to the service box at the curb in front of my house on Dearborn Ave in Columbus, Ga. My wife and I made several attempts via phone to try to get help in this matter because my wife has to have internet in order to perform her job from home. She works for a major health insurance company here in town so this is very important. Around the second week in July I made another call for help and spoke with Erin (Not sure if that is how she spells her name) and every time I tried to tell Erin of the inconvenience this was causing Erin just kept getting louder and louder saying if I would listen to her long enough she could tell me what may be happening. Just absolutely talking over me while I was saying we were loyal customers of over 20 years and now paying $386 a month for landline, cable, internet, and DVR. A very polite and professional technician came out but all he could do to get us up and running again was to run a cable from our service box at the road to another customer's box in our cul-de-sac 3 houses away from mine. This cable passes over parts of 3 front yards and 2 driveways. For more than 6 weeks if we get a lot of rain we have to pull the cable out of a drain. The cable also loops up between my drive and my next door neighbor's. If I don't go out occasionally and stretch the cable to the box I'm afraid the Mediacom cable could get attached to a vehicle going in and out of the driveway to the house and damage to body of the vehicle. There was one day around July 13 or 14 where I arrived home from a doctor appointment only to discover a Mediacom tech blocking the entrance to my driveway. I sat for a few minutes waiting to move and he did not. I parked on the curb and approached the truck he was sitting in. His window was down maybe an inch I guess so he could blow his cigarette smoke out the window and was obviously avoiding interacting with me. I asked what he was doing and he said inspecting a buried cable. He never rolled the window down and never got out of the truck in fact the only thing I could tell he succeeded at was smoking a cigarette and blocking me from parking in my drive. Tech didn't give his name but was a male caucasian with black hair and black beard. On July 19 I went to the local office to ask for help. Only 1 clerk that I can tell is waiting on customers and though she is very polite and attentive unfortunately she bears the brunt of unhappy customers. She went to the managers office at least 3 times while I was there to see if they were available before eventually telling me that the manager was on a conference call and that I should have someone at my house later that day or the next. Never happened. On Friday August 21 I went to the local office again to turn in all of our boxes, router, and anything else associated with Mediacom. Because they were "Transferring resources" from one location to another somewhere close to Wynton Road the office computers were down for the rest of the day and they could not receive my equipment. I had to go back On Monday August 24 to turn in the equipment. On Wednesday August 26 I decided to call Mediacom to make sure they knew I had turned in the equipment and got a receipt and to express that I did not want to be charged for any service that was not provided anyway since the office could not that my equipment on August 21. I was speaking to Garrett on the phone for Mediacom. Garrett told me twice that there was no balance left on my account. When I tried to tell him that the cable is still in front of parts of 3 front yard and 2 driveways he kept cutting me off and saying they would work on it. Talking over me like Erin did. $386 dollars a month in charges for terrible service is totally unacceptable. Seems that Mediacom doesn't mind collecting payment for less than subpar services but when it comes to loyal customers asking for them to hold up on their end and giving examples of poor service they don't want to listen. I am giving a 1 Star for my rating only because I can't give less. read more

Hands down the worst internet provider ever. Frequent outages, slow internet, expensive too? I try to play games on this wifi, but it's practically impossible with my game being frozen more than its not. On the website it completely lies, saying up to 1000 mbps download speeds, yet it'll take hours for simple downloads. The wifi is so bad, that I can't even have fun while playing games, its always more frustrating than anything. I have no other option, but if you have ANY other option, then use it, even if its just a potato with wires its almost guaranteed to be better than this. read more

Absolutely the worst ISP I've ever had and easily the most unreliable. Every day for weeks we have received messages that our internet may have disruptions because "Molly" is working on it. It hasn't been every day this week but my wife is at home working and yet again has no internet and she works a 2nd job from home that requires a wired internet connection. If there was any other ISP on our street, I would turn off Mediacom without a second thought and go with them. There is a good reason they have a 1-star review. They don't deserve that much but it won't go any lower. Only 2 miles from my house, my uncle has 3 options for ISPs and he will not use Mediacom. I wish I could move my house next door to him. My kids also do homeschool and can't do their online assignments due to the constant service interruptions. We were paying a lot for internet but downgraded to the cheapest functional option recently. No sense paying that much for shoddy internet service and $6 a day or so deductions off the bill that cost my wife hundreds of dollars because she couldn't work. read more

Mediacom - I got these every day for WEEKS! - Telecommunications Near Me - Columbus, Georgia

I have used Mediacom for years probably over 20 years until last week. It all started with a house fire in July 2016 and now, in December 2021 I still have a late payment/equipment charge of over $1800.00 on my credit. I recently tried to refinance my house despite my many medical bills, what really hindered me was this outstanding bill from Mediacom. In July 2016, I had a house fire that melted or burned over 75% of my household goods to include a melted flat screen tv with a Mediacom cable box. My family just north of the county took me in and in the next week or so I called all utilities to cancel pay what I owe usually pro-rated including Mediacom. When I asked about the Modem/cable box and what I owe I was assured that I wouldn't need to worry about that as Mediacom has its own insurance for such catastrophes. My sister-in-law, who was sitting on the couch with me heard everything (speakerphone) and even asked to verify that I would not have a charge for the equipment. Again, they assured me it was covered under Mediacom's insurance. Months later I started to get a new bill for the equipment. I called to check on this and one guy said "no, you have to pay for it". I asked for a supervisor and was told that I didn't have to pay that charge. It was a mistake and they were going to clear it up. I received more bills and it even went to a collection agency. I called Mediacom and got the same lip service so I didn't know what to do. Since I recently tried to refi my house in November for a better interest rate I was not given a good rate because of this outstanding bill of almost $2000. I was very displeased and quit Mediacom right then and there. Apparently, this is common practice but no one seems to stand up to it. Well, I'm here to stand up and fight Mediacom as I know they've done this to many more people than me. Here's a little info about one person: https://Stop the Cap!.com/2020/03/02/Mediacom-Demands-300-For-Melted Cable-Modem-Lost-in-Devastating-Condo-Fire/ Is there a lawyer around here? RRA read more

I don't understand why I am paying for your services when they don't flucking work. On and off all summer long. This is a very bad company and to be forced to have service with them is soul-crushing. In today's times and with advertising Xtream as a gaming internet provider, it makes zero sense why they have a data cap on the highest speed plans they have. This is a company that gives zero fucks about you as a person and knows that the only other provider in the area has even worse service and no speeds whatsoever. If I could rate negative I would. If another service provider besides AT&T was in the area I would switch even at the cost of a higher monthly payment. Pitiful excuse for a company MediCom! read more

We have had nothing but trouble since we switched to Mediacom. I can't TEVO, fast forward, back up and my internet seems to be shared with someone else. Maybe because we are newer or we had the higher data tier, but we never experienced any major issues. Only reason we switched over was due to fiber moving in to our neighborhood. Other than that (service wise) there were occasional outages due to weather (expected), nothing major to complain about. Only advice is if you have to turn in equipment, don't plan on doing it on a Saturday as they are closed until further notice. read more

I electronically sent my payment and it was lost in comcast billing...so they then attempted to bill me for a 2nd time. I turned in the router and explained i was double billed. Said I need proof of payment. No wifi no pointer. So I snap shot where my bank sent payment and went through. Printed it out at walgreens and then went to carbondales office to show proof of billing. The girl at the counter called her boss who then requested a paper copy. Said I cannot due to no internet. So she then procede to offer me free months for my trouble. Said im done. She said the issue would be handled. I failed to mention that customer service were rude and saying I didnt pay my bill and i needed to pay it. Basically calling me a liar. Horrible internet and cable service it's always going out. Have had various so called technicians come out and it's always something different They can't and won't fix the problem. Oh and the problem always seems to be on my end of the cable. To top it off we cannot have another cable service because media com has a monopoly in my neighborhood. I have been an installer and the problem is on the service poles we need new cable around the whole neighborhood the existing cable has been here since the early 1990's. It's time to update!!! I made the huge mistake of using Mediacom as my cable provider. There field asso. made a mistake by cutting off my service instead of the intended person. I immediately called Mediacom, I was informed there was no tech available to come out & fix it for 10 days. Even after speaking with Supervisor I was advised that if there is a cancellation they would move my appt up. Unacceptable. Once again this week all my services mysteriously stopped. I had no service at all. Called and was informed no available tech for 5 days. I just have no understanding as to why such a major company would make there customers go that long without any service. We've had countless amounts of trouble calls. I wish I could look at my account and tell you the exact number of times they've been out here the past year. Everytime they come, they blame it on something else, weather including heat, cold. Oh the signal was turned up too high outside. Its a node affecting the whole area. Maintenance is coming tomorrow. Call center reps have hung up on me when I start asking questions. They act like if you ask for a credit for the poor service like you are asking for their oxygen or something. Technician called dispatch while he's working in my living room with my kids in the room. He's on speakerphone so when he pulls my account up he says "oh this f___ing guy". LOL what kinda service is this? I live in an apartment where they contract with Mediacom only so I cant just switch. Hopefully I can move this year and quite dealing with these sorry people. If I could give this company negative stars I absolutely would. First, they require payment prior to service installation. Then because they have monopolized a rural area you have to wait approximately a week for an appointment. My encounter with this company has been one of the worst experiences with a cable/internet company I've ever had. We waited one week for the appointment and on the day of we were scheduled between 8am and 12pm. At 11:05 I received a call from a 1-888 number and the caller disconnected in less that 7 seconds. I called the number back and it was not a direct number to the technician but to customer service. As I am explaining to customer service, she was refreshing the screen and the technician noted that he called me, I didn't answer and he left me a voicemail. All lies. My mailbox is full. Because of the note the technician entered they put my appointment on something called a rollback. All day I called and inquired about the technician. Finally after calling back at 6 pm I was told no one was coming and wouldn't be able to come out until 4 days later. An entire day of work missed because someone wasn't being honest or doing their do diligence and job. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer service for them to tell me that we needed to send them back their equipment or they would take $40 from my refund?! Its a disgusting way to run a business. I hope that one day a more affordable and reliable company is available for the smaller cities. read more

Dishonest!!!! Liars!!! And I thought wow was bad. Disconnected from wow after years of service I was not thrilled with. I had this service for one week and told them to disconnect. This is by far the least reliable cable provider I've ever had. If negative stars were an option I would choose those. Currently on my second week without internet. The support staff are not in the least bit helpful and tech support take a week at best to come out and fix faulty equipment...are they flying in from Mumbai?!? It would be one thing if they were aware of their shortfalls and did something to compensate. Unfortunately the lack of options in the area seem to breed inequity. read more

I honestly don't know how they stay in business. They have the absolute worst technical support of any cable company I've seen in my entire life. The repair team guys are really nice and helpful, but they are obviously short handed. It may take several days for someone to be able to come fix an outage. I've had it with them and I'm dropping them today. I would strongly advise you to select another cable service. read more

Mediacom cable goes out every week and when it's a problem where a tech has to be sent out its always a 5 day wait for someone to come to your home. Terrible service. Agree with other posters. The cable and internet go out at least once per month. And often for days at a time. It took 3 visits to get my boxes installed properly. First tech left saying that my cable would be right up in the next hour. And I didn't have HD channels for the next 4 days even though I called to complain immediately. They supposedly couldn't send a tech out to fix it until a week and half later. Then they said it wasn't them they needed a different tech to come out. Whenever I have called I spend at least 30 min on hold and usually get put back "on hold" where they hang up on me. Can wait to move out of the area so I can cancel this service. If you have any other options DO NOT go with mediacom read more

Plain and simple the worst internet provider I've ever had. For starters moved in back in July 2015. They had to run some lines for the service. It took them around a month to bury the only line which was running across my driveway and now JANUARY 2016 the other line is still sitting outside waiting to be buried. Called them a week ago and setup an appointment for it to be done yesterday. Guess what it's still outside and when I called them about it they said it'll be 14-21 days. Besides that the Internet is slow and there is a data cap. We sometimes go over, but not often enough to pay for the next tier. Cannot wait to live somewhere with a different provider. Finally called to cancel my service and they said their lines were too busy and that they'd call me back. Figuring that they wouldn't call back, I called back later on in the day and cancelled my service. I tried closing my account at the end of my billing cycle but it didn't meet their 7 day notification requirements. Sad that they need the money that bad that they'll charge someone money when they're not even providing services. Worst internet provider I've ever had. read more

The customer service is HORRENDOUS-apparently the only cable internet provider in my neighborhood and they seem to know it. My recent experience with the technician, call associates and supervisors were all pathetic!!!! The excuses were numerous. The appointment was confirmed via text message several days prior to the scheduled window of 8-10 AM, I (where is the communication from the communication company?!?) began my communication with the company at 10:10 AM to obtain the status. Right on script, was told that the "technician is running a little behind" and will contact me when within 0:15 of the new arrival time of 10:45AM. My next call was at 10:50 (no surprise, the same scripted response), now I'm explaining to Jane, Abby and ultimately Tiffany that my primary issue is the lack of communication from the "communication" company. My recommendation is to seek out an alternative communication provide if at all possible. My next correspondence is to the public official in this area to determine when the MediCOM monopoly will end!!!! read more

Like other reviewers, if I could give negative stars, I would. I won't waste time speaking about their horrible customer service and frequent service interruptions, let me just tell you the really egregious things they have done. They stole my modem from my house and replaced it with their rented one. In five years, they have not been able to find my modem to return it to me. In Feb. 2017 Mediacom ran a new cable line from the pole to our house (they believed that was the cause of our frequent service interruptions), they left the cable lying on the ground and said someone would be out soon to bury the line. Now, Feb. 2018 it has been exactly 1 year and the cable line still runs across our yard and driveway, despite no less than 6 people coming out at various times, usually saying something like "we can't do that, were going to have to send someone else out." Fortunately for Mediacom, no significant injuries have resulted from their negligence (only a couple scrapped knees for my children), as I have already informed them that should that happen, I will take pleasure in suing the company, in hopes that maybe they will clean up their act. Why would we stay with Mediacom through all of this? Because they are the only provider where we currently live. However, we are so displeased with Mediacom that as we search for a new house, we have decided that should we find a house that we love, if it only has service from Mediacom, we will not move there. That is how much we are looking forward to no longer being a customer of theirs. If you have any cable choice at all, avoid this company at all costs. read more

Worst cable provider ever, I had wow cable and internet for 5 years and maybe had to call them a handful of times. I have had Mediacom for 6 months and have to call at least once a week. When you call their automated system it takes at least 30 mins to an hr to get any info, it's like they try to wear you down so you will not call them. Hell it goes out in entire area at least once a month and when you call about that they just tell you it has been reported already and their is no time frame.
